It looks really nice and is extremely durable. Luckily I haven't been in a position where it would be able to rip, but from what I've heard the material is incredibly durable.

They add weight to the bag, and in this case the bag is no longer carry-on compliant anywhere when fully opened. I'm assuming this is not supposed to be an EDC bag so assuming you are using this as a carry-on bag I'd look into \~35L non-expandable bags as an alternative.

This bag is amazing! I own tons of duffels, Duluth Pack, Patagonia, North Face and Cabelas and none of them holds a candle to this in terms of quality. I tote around a very expensive camera with a long lens out in the boat in remote places in Ontario and I’ve been looking for a bag I could tuck this in during transient rains. This clearly is going to be 100% waterproof though I haven’t tested it yet. I got the 50, which is perfect for my camera

- The nice rectangular shape is harder to fit into an airport "carryon tester". But, this isn't a hard shell so you'll make it fit. Note that 45L is the maximum "official" permitted overhead carryon size.

While the medium North Face is just outside of the parameters this Patagonia fits the carry-on requirements for airlines. (To be fair it would take a picky gate agent to dong The North Face but to me it wasn’t worth the risk!as I fly a lot of commuter flights.)

Bought this bag for my PanAmerican motorcycle trip. Was pretty excited for the stability and durability of the bag, but noticed a major design flaw on day one. While this bag certainly kept my stuff dry on the haul road to Deadhorse, it was a battle to get things in and out of the bag with such a tight zipper opening. Cold, wet, and shaking hands will take a beating on the the zipper while trying to get a tent or sleeping bag through the opening

Aesthetically, these duffels look great; and temptation is to think they will not stand up to a beating. But this is my second, and I can vouch from the first that they are tough as nails. Plus they clean up nicely with a hose, a brush and some dishwashing detergent. I dragged #1 on the floor through O'Hare for a clong walk to my connection, brought it home, hosed it off and it looked pristine

It is robust, it is right-sized, it travels easy, it protects the contents, and it doesn't shout "Hey, over here, steal me!"

I do have a Patagonia Black Hole Duffel, and while I like how durable it feels, the shoulder straps and harness system are trash in comparison to the Osprey Transporter duffel. I am doing a comparison of the two duffels to see which I will keep, and due to a shoulder injury, comfort and stability of the harness system are a priority.
