It does. In my home studio I use the Yamaha HS7 which are great as a neutral monitor for mixing but lack a bit of punch when I listen to music while working home office. So I bought a used Behringer EX 4000 II, only slightly used bass enhancement and overtone addition and it’s like having bought much more expensive speakers. Not quite in Focal Twin territory yet but closer. (I have to switch it off for my Stax headphones though as they clearly show the added distortion.) Plus room correction via a DEQ2496, improved bass performance as well (fortunately my room wasn’t very critical to begin with).

I've been to many houses/places/showrooms with $$$$$ systems in less than ideal rooms, and majority of them were underwhelming, to say the least.  In contrast, digitally corrected rooms, even with much less expensive equipment, like a decent receiver with Audyssey/Dirac/ARC, can sound much better when properly calibrated.

I mean, some of my audiophile friends obsess with stuff like cables, DACs, etc... but don't bother minimizing the ill effects of their room to the sound.  I know somebody who owns a $5000 DAC, yet the room sounded like an echo chamber.

Do you agree that room correction (Audyssey, Dirac, ARC, etc.) makes a "decent" system sound better than "purist" megabuck system in untreated room?

 They're actually really heavy but also in a good way because they feel really sturdy. Also the surface they're made of doesn't scratch or anything it just feels really good. Yamaha HS7 Review / Test - Great Studio Monitors

 Hey guys, this is Arne from Crowdfunding Tech and it's finally summer again and I finally

 The Yamaha HS7 review, that's what you're here for, right?

 So the Yamaha HS7 and the full Yamaha HS series from the HS5 to the HS7 and the HS8 are really

 great studio monitors and among the best in their price class and they also have the Amazon

 The Yamaha HS studio monitors come in three different sizes.

 There's the Yamaha HS5 that comes with a 5 inch woofer and the Yamaha HS8 that comes

 with an 8 inch woofer and the Yamaha HS7, you guessed it, comes with a 6.5 inch woofer.

 But still, they're three different sizes and depending on the little one to the bigger

 one they get more expensive as well as they have better sound and better bass since the

 woofer is the main thing that gets bigger with each size.

 My review will be focused on the Yamaha HS7 as that's the pair that I actually have but

 most of my points apply to all of these whereas the HS5 will have a little less bass and maybe

 be not as good whereas the HS8 will have more bass and just be a little better in sound

 just to their price point and their size.

 But the general things stay the same in this series.

 When first unboxing these you will notice that they're really heavy and built like

 They actually weigh 8kg or 17 pounds so you have a lot of speaker here and make sure that

 your setup and your desk will be able to hold all of this weight.

 These studio monitors are active which means they need wall power through a 3 pin connector

 to actually power the amplifier inside the speakers.

 This means that you don't need an extra amplifier but on the other side you will have a lot

 of cables and you need enough power outlets to actually use these.

 Okay but first before you actually go on to buy or consider studio monitors there's some

 The first thing is obviously you need high quality audio files to drive these speakers

 This is really important as they make good sounds sound better but they will also unmask

 every quality problem that bad sound quality files have.

 So really make sure you're up to par here.

 I use it with Spotify streaming but since I pay I always make sure to have it on the

 higher extreme quality option to get the best sound.

 Low quality files will just sound worse on this so you really need to watch out for that.

 The second thing you really need is a good DAC.

 This is what makes sure that the high quality audio you're playing actually gets to your

 Many people use their internal sound cards which are essentially a DAC but mostly have

 So really don't use that for anything with better speakers.

 A DAC is something where that you plug in through USB and gets the digital audio files

 into it and then converts them in a really high quality into actual analog files.

 These then get passed through the speaker.

 This is what really makes the good sound and is just as important as good speakers.

 So I personally use the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 which costs around $100 and I know that

 this is really not that cheap but if you're trying to get high quality you don't only

 have to invest into high quality speakers you also have to get a good DAC to go with

 So the last thing you want to get are speaker stands.

 The first one is to not actually have your speaker sitting on your desk as there will

 be vibrations coming into your desk and that actually lower the audio quality.

 Also your bass will sound weird since it actually bleeds into the actual desk and vibrates everything.

 So you really want to have ideally some foam in between to actually get rid of these vibrations
