X-ACTO Ranger Wall Mount vs Kum Long Point

It’s a sharpener. Inexpensive. And kids can’t walk off with it so I can actually use it when I need it.

You can actually sharpen just the lead again if it dulls but eventually you have to repeat both steps. This pencil sharpener is really designed for artists. It is not really necessary for just writing and you would have to be sharpening it all the time since the point is so narrow. It is great though to be able to get such a sharp narrow point for small details in a pencil drawing

Regarding the X-Acto Ranger KS 1031 pencil sharpener, my older pencil sharpener has much, much thicker & stronger steel. This junk bucket is so thin that I've already dented it by simply grasping to remove the shavings. Even the little foldy-over tabs holding the ends on came open. Oy! What A Mess! The base seems sturdy enough however

I like the 2mm pointer in the KUM "Automatic Long Point" sharpener, and the tiny KUM ones that are just a blade mounted in a very small piece of plastic. Rubbish bin required! I just took delivery of a Staedtler rotary one today, but I have barely had time to check that it works. Seems nice, though.

Very sturdy build and for us Baby Boomers, would remind one of the crank-handled pencil sharpeners we used in grammar school. Bonus- two rotary sharpening blades for accurate pencil points. Some shatter the pencil while others leave the tip dull and rounded, completely invalidating their purpose. The Kum long point sharpener is not cheap rubbish. Its price, while relatively low, may seem steep for a simple hand pencil sharpener, but it's worth the extra bucks. The sharpener includes two blades

Handle it gently and it should last. The cutters, mount and crank are all pretty stout. It’s a fair deal.

After only a month or so of light use, this pencil sharpener is USELESS. In fact, it destroys pencils and makes them less sharp. It's like it eats them up. I have gone back to using a cheap metal sharpener that came with my pencil set

It works alot better than I expected it would super sharp blades inside that sharpens the pencils to a really really sharp point

( By the way, if you should need to replace one or both of the blades, be very careful when torquing down the screw or you could strip it.) I purchased 2 KUM AS2 sharpeners, so with the shipping, the total came to slightly over $20.00 for one usable sharpener. UGH! Was it worth it

Easy to empty shavings. All that and you get the personal satisfaction of knowing that you still know how to use one of these. Some things just never go out of style.
