Victorinox Fibrox vs Tuo Cutlery 8" Chef Knife

After looking around for a week or so, I kept seeing the Fibrox come up as the best value budget knife, and that the Swiss modern was the upgraded version with a better handle. Just so happened to be my birthday this month so asked for this from my Dad. Is asking for kitchen appliances for your birthday one of the first signs of getting old?.

Haven't used it seriously yet, but I wish I had it a couple days ago when breaking down a pork butt roast, with a dull Cutko. The wood is nice looking. I probably will edit this in a month or so after it gets some serious use. For the price, it's a steal

The blade has enough meat on it's bones to be sturdy, but not so much as to feel heavy to use. The handle is gorgeous and ergonomic, though "pakkawood" simply seems to be laminated acrylic impregnated wood very much like the gunstocks that you can buy. I bought this to supplement the Fiery Phoenix set I bought as I prefer to have a chefs knife and this one very much fits the bill. I will update later if my impression changes for any reason, but so far I am very happy with this purchase as well as the set I bought

I did a lot of research before buying this knife and have owned one of these for a few years before ordering another one for my little brother as a graduation gift. The knife holds it's edge really well and is easy to clean. I haven't had any rust issues, but I do hand wash the knife instead of running it through the dish washer. The blade is not too heavy, but is strong

I recently bought a honing steel which might help keep the edge true even with the softer steel.

I'm pleased with the ease of this chief knife's blade cutting and dicing but the handle is all plastic feel, something that gives me the willies . The fit is okay, I've got a medium size woman's hand , seems to me the handle is overly large and i'll bet my sons might like this chef's knife more than myself

This is highly subjective. I like a beefy handle and I find it perfect. - knuckles don’t clear bottom when chopping. I do t have this issue
