Enjoy the second generation Kuru Toga pencil with an aluminum grip and high-quality plastic body. This pencil is perfect for stationery fanatics, it will always give you a sharp point! Ideal for writing crisp and neat print, using with Sudoku puzzles and more! It's going to take a true pencil expert to understand the common pencil's dilemma but hang in there as we try and explain. With standard mechanical pencils, as you write the pencil lead is worn down until it is a slanted surface. Each time you write you will get a different experience depending on how the pencil is rotated. This can cause multiple annoyances: 1. As you start to write you might have a sharp point, but as you continue to write the point is worn down and thus your line widths are not uniform. This can also lead to smudgy and thick lines. 2. If you pick the pencil up and happen to start writing with the tip of the angled point, it is likely to scratch or catch on the paper. 3. The different angles at which the pencil lead comes in to contact with the paper is a common cause of lead breakage. The Kuru Toga, on the other hand, has a core rotation mechanism that continually rotates the pencil lead as you write. The lead is twisted through a spring-loaded clutch, it works by twisting incrementally every time you lift the pencil up (i.e. during printing words, etc.). This allows a uniform wearing of the pencil lead so that it always remains as a pointed tip. Not only does it solve the above problems, but it also gives you an amazingly thin line. You are effectively using only 50% of the lead area that you were previously using with your old mechanical pencil. Thus, a 0.3/0.5 mm Kuru Toga will write incredibly thin lines and have less breakage than a standard 0.3/0.5 mm mechanical pencil.

The lead in this pack is good lead, although oddly, it is not the lead specifically designed for the kuru toga. The kuru toga lead can be purchased online and put into this pencil, although the NaNoDia lead does work well enough.

I have trouble writing sometimes and I wanted something smooth like a Pilot G-2 but I felt like I couldn't control my writing with a ballpoint or rollerball as well as I could a pencil. Pencils require so much pressure to work properly though that my hand would start hurting within a few minutes of writing. Fountain pens struck that balance for me between smoothness and control, and not having to press down made the experience even better.

Hello! Roughly a month ago I bought my first Uni Kuru toga (0,5 mm) and I really liked it and it always stayed sharp.

the eraser. Its a tiny eraser in a small metal band that is almost impossible to accurately adjust, can barely erase anything due to its small size, and costs almost as much as the pencil to replace. I'm honestly not sure why it can't have the same eraser as the plastic Kurutoga models, which is still not a great eraser, but is a bit thicker than this one. The issue is not much of a bother to me because I use a separate eraser either way, but it may be of concern to others

Best Pencil I've Owned

 I don't have to.  Minor wish: it's a hybrid, metal with few plastic parts. An all-metal option would be great; just a bit more weight. This almost docked a 1/2 star from it, though its good enough overall to be pushed up to five for the autorotate

.. this one is somewhat on the lighter side, but has enough of a decent heft and handles very nicely even for long computation or (technical) sketching. The thickness of the barrel is on the average side for what I prefer/use, but feels right and has yet to make my fingers feel fatigued

 An all-metal option would be great; just a bit more weight. This almost docked a 1/2 star from it, though its good enough overall to be pushed up to five for the autorotate.  Since it's new, durability of both the mechanism and the finish is TBD, after some weeks in the field.

New standard for the mechanical pencil?

 Why? It's the Grip. It's Smooth Metal, with a very few Grooves. It feels slippery in the hand, while the Roulette has a knurled Grip and is easier to hold onto, while still having a high quality construction. I do hope that Uni will update the Roulette with the "W Speed" Mechanism currently used in the Pipe Slide and Advance Models

  Another thing that doesn’t thrill me is the eraser. Removing the cap to erase is more difficult than it should be, and trying to advance the lead without the cap on doesn’t seem to work well either. Plus I don’t want to lose the cap or damage the advance mechanism with the force it takes to remove and replace it. Like many mechanical pencils, the eraser is also very tiny so I just play it safe now and use a separate eraser

.  Advancing the lead is sometimes finicky. I finally realized it only happened after I retract the lead. If I turn the pencil eraser side down and give it a shake or two while keeping the lead-advance button depressed, it seems to get the leads to realign

For $3.50, it’s a good pencil

This is a nice pencil for the money. Nice weight towards the writing part of the pencil. Smooth action in advancing the lead. The metal knurled part feels nice in your hand, much better than common cheap mechanical pencils do

Nice Pencil for the Money

 This was my holy grail. Rich feel in my hand, a lead that doesn't easily break and a line that is thin enough for the accuracy that I needed. If you need real precision for joinery, you are using a marking knife line not a pencil.  I loved it so much, I bought a second one for backup and they both live in my shop apron where I can always find them and never lose them (wink)

 So I then tried harder 0.5 mm lead but the lines were fainter (so I pushed harder) and the lead still broke! The Blackwings were delicious but the lead was soft and I ate them up quickly constantly making trips to the pencil sharpener. I finally tried the Pentel GraphGear 500 which has a 0.9 mm lead

 None of those worked for me. What did work for me was the Prismacolor Magic Rub erasers and I keep one in my apron. They aren't perfect but they do a good enough job that some light planing or sanding can clean up easily.

Finally, THE pencil for my Woodworking Shop

After I slipped one of my empty ballpoint ink pen's foam sleeve onto this mechanical pencil it went from being a good pencil to a great pencil. Very easy to hold and use for writing notes or drawing forms. I am a wannabe woodworker so I draw many different shapes and forms for something I am trying to make and this pencil is very good for this type of work. Before the use of that foam sleeve I mentioned, your fingers would be holding onto the ribbed metal barrel and is somewhat uncomfortable to hold while doing my thing

The engineering of this mechanical pencil virtually ensures unbreakable lead
