I'm sorry if this becomes a bit rambly, and I know these things are often very subjective, but I'm looking to the wider experience of the masses for opinions.

I have only two pens: ye olde Pilot Metropolitan and the ubiquitous Lamy Safari. I'm a big fan of how they both write, though I prefer the metro for every day as I like a bit of **heft**.

I'm ready for the next step, and I have a few pens on my list, though several of these are out of reach (or stock) at the moment. These include: Faber-Castell Loom and Kaweco Liliput. I've also often looked longingly at the various TWSBI's around as well, but every time I come close to pulling the trigger, I think, "but won't it feel plasticky and cheap?" And then I talk myself out of it.

I'd also be curious about anyone's experiences between, vacuum or piston vs a normal cartridge/converter thing. I'm a bit useless and generally only clean my pen when I'm changing inks (don't kill me please). I can change!

Basically what I'm asking is what's a good next step? I would like something that looks special or has a real point of difference; I'm not really interested in a more expensive do-over of the pens I already have. I don't have a giant budget (and this is difficult to translate, as some pens that are cheap for those of you in the USA are not necessarily cheap here in NZ) But I'll look into everything.

I need help with my next pen! (Excuse the lengthiness)

 Additionally, the ink capacity on the Kaweco has never been a problem for me, as it always got me through at least a whole day of college notes with the EF nib.

I'm looking into getting a decent FP and have narrowed it down to these two. I am wondering what yalls' experience with these pens is.

What is your experience with the Kaweco Sport and/or the TWSBI Eco.

 The price for such a good fountain pen is unreal. Pens of similar writing quality made in Germany, Italy, or Japan cost 2 and 3 times as much.

A Very Good Pen

5 ultraflex in TWSBI 580 and it just didn't work - the inkflow wasn't there. Every #6 nib I placed into PenBBS struggled to function (and taking out the feed each time was a literal pain I do not want to repeat again). I bought Lamy nibs by mistake and don't even want to start down the Lamy road, so I'm leaving those untouched. I still love all the pens I have, but for future purchases, I think I'll stick strictly to the pens that take #5 or #6 Jowo nibs without much of a struggle in the feed

CUSTOM 845 is the name that shine brilliancy at the fountain pen world ! Certainly, this is the supreme masterpiece as writing tool. 

Material 
"CUSTOM845" is almost constructed of Ebonite. Ebonite is very stable material. Shape, dimension etc... these don't almost be changed even after 100 years. Certainly, this material is suitable to fountain pen. But it is used for a part in many case. Because it is very difficult to process shape. When you take this pen, feel magical weight heavier than brass. 

Painting 
Finishe by "Roiro Urushi". The between Urushi and Ebonite is very good. At first, using "Urushi" was for protecting Ebonite from fading (as a result, this produced innovative idea - drawing "MAki-e" art on pen.) Of course, the used Urushi on this pen is the highest grade. "Roiro Urushi" (not mixed with oil) , have very beautiful gross. However for making, it needs long time. Politely polish, polish, polish. On "CUSTOM 845", this procedure is done 3 times. It is said this material and method is the best for making beautiful gross. The completed gross is mirror literally. There is vivid brightness different from others. The touch is excellent. There is magical warmness and softness. 

Nib 
Nib is 18K (#15), large size. This bicolor nib is very beautiful and majestic. Arched shape is elegant. But of course, essence is touch ! When nib is touched paper, this majestic nib bring wonderful softness touch. This superb softness... you can feel gently repulsion ! Words skate on the paper ! 

Certainly, "CUSTOM845" is the supreme writing tool. All elements are dedicated for supreme writing. But their wonderfulness raise to art. Proudly, recommend to all writer of world. (About nib size, choose whatever you'd like.)

A music nib really shines when the pen is relatively short and light weighted. Eh, IMO. That is, I personally do not think you may want to choose to buy a heavy, long pen, if you really want to use a music nib. You use the pen, eh, side ways, so to speak, thus it is easier to handle if the pen is relatively shorter and light weighted, IMO

New (to me) Pen Day: Pilot (the First) Custom K-500RS Music Nib Introduced to the Market 1972

 it writes good, it looks good, it feels good. The stars aligned to make this pen a desirable purchase for me, even with the high price.

Very pleased

 I got this pen because it is the cheapest Urushi pen you can buy to the best of my knowledge. Nib is very large and unique, soft, but deffinetly not a flex nib.  Very good right out of the box absolutely no adjustments or damage.
