I'm sorry if this becomes a bit rambly, and I know these things are often very subjective, but I'm looking to the wider experience of the masses for opinions.

I have only two pens: ye olde Pilot Metropolitan and the ubiquitous Lamy Safari. I'm a big fan of how they both write, though I prefer the metro for every day as I like a bit of **heft**.

I'm ready for the next step, and I have a few pens on my list, though several of these are out of reach (or stock) at the moment. These include: Faber-Castell Loom and Kaweco Liliput. I've also often looked longingly at the various TWSBI's around as well, but every time I come close to pulling the trigger, I think, "but won't it feel plasticky and cheap?" And then I talk myself out of it.

I'd also be curious about anyone's experiences between, vacuum or piston vs a normal cartridge/converter thing. I'm a bit useless and generally only clean my pen when I'm changing inks (don't kill me please). I can change!

Basically what I'm asking is what's a good next step? I would like something that looks special or has a real point of difference; I'm not really interested in a more expensive do-over of the pens I already have. I don't have a giant budget (and this is difficult to translate, as some pens that are cheap for those of you in the USA are not necessarily cheap here in NZ) But I'll look into everything.

I need help with my next pen! (Excuse the lengthiness)

 Additionally, the ink capacity on the Kaweco has never been a problem for me, as it always got me through at least a whole day of college notes with the EF nib.

I'm looking into getting a decent FP and have narrowed it down to these two. I am wondering what yalls' experience with these pens is.

What is your experience with the Kaweco Sport and/or the TWSBI Eco.

 The price for such a good fountain pen is unreal. Pens of similar writing quality made in Germany, Italy, or Japan cost 2 and 3 times as much.

A Very Good Pen

5 ultraflex in TWSBI 580 and it just didn't work - the inkflow wasn't there. Every #6 nib I placed into PenBBS struggled to function (and taking out the feed each time was a literal pain I do not want to repeat again). I bought Lamy nibs by mistake and don't even want to start down the Lamy road, so I'm leaving those untouched. I still love all the pens I have, but for future purchases, I think I'll stick strictly to the pens that take #5 or #6 Jowo nibs without much of a struggle in the feed

For the most part, this is a really great pen. I got the Safari Vista (clear). It looks nice and it's a good everyday pen. I like the fact that it's not too fancy

Okay pen, but a design flaw gets ink on your fingers after a while

Authentic Lamy Vista, Fine NIB, BLUE Lamy ink cartridge.  Excels at classroom note taking; writes smoothly on lesser quality papers, like copier paper in the workplace, albeit with some feathering; is "toothy" on Fountain Pen friendly papers. Do not mistake this dragging-NIB feeling for "scratchiness".  Used a 2 oz

Authentic Lamy Vista, Fine NIB, BLUE Lamy ink cartridge - very reliable

  One other word of warning, the Safari model has a non-uniform triangular grip which means that you're forced into holding the pen in one specific way. If your hands are too big or too small, you might find this somewhat uncomfortable. I neither hate it nor love it. Mostly I still prefer a simple round grip area, although this one isn't too bad

 The flow through the nib is very good, with the understanding that it takes a moment to get the ink flowing if you haven't used the pen in a while (just like every other fountain pen).  I haven't had any skipping or flow issues to this point, so that's also an improvement from some of the other fountain pens that I have. Lamy certainly has put together a quality product here, even if it is plastic. The writing is as clear and firm as some pens I have that cost multiples more, so when it comes to the actual functioning of the nib and ink system, Lamy definitely didn't skimp

Pretty darn good, though not perfect...

 It just has this perfect weight distribution that it feels great to write with. I literally can't stop using it but compelled to stop and share this review with others.
