I'm sorry if this becomes a bit rambly, and I know these things are often very subjective, but I'm looking to the wider experience of the masses for opinions.

I have only two pens: ye olde Pilot Metropolitan and the ubiquitous Lamy Safari. I'm a big fan of how they both write, though I prefer the metro for every day as I like a bit of **heft**.

I'm ready for the next step, and I have a few pens on my list, though several of these are out of reach (or stock) at the moment. These include: Faber-Castell Loom and Kaweco Liliput. I've also often looked longingly at the various TWSBI's around as well, but every time I come close to pulling the trigger, I think, "but won't it feel plasticky and cheap?" And then I talk myself out of it.

I'd also be curious about anyone's experiences between, vacuum or piston vs a normal cartridge/converter thing. I'm a bit useless and generally only clean my pen when I'm changing inks (don't kill me please). I can change!

Basically what I'm asking is what's a good next step? I would like something that looks special or has a real point of difference; I'm not really interested in a more expensive do-over of the pens I already have. I don't have a giant budget (and this is difficult to translate, as some pens that are cheap for those of you in the USA are not necessarily cheap here in NZ) But I'll look into everything.

I need help with my next pen! (Excuse the lengthiness)

 Additionally, the ink capacity on the Kaweco has never been a problem for me, as it always got me through at least a whole day of college notes with the EF nib.

I'm looking into getting a decent FP and have narrowed it down to these two. I am wondering what yalls' experience with these pens is.

What is your experience with the Kaweco Sport and/or the TWSBI Eco.

 The price for such a good fountain pen is unreal. Pens of similar writing quality made in Germany, Italy, or Japan cost 2 and 3 times as much.

A Very Good Pen

5 ultraflex in TWSBI 580 and it just didn't work - the inkflow wasn't there. Every #6 nib I placed into PenBBS struggled to function (and taking out the feed each time was a literal pain I do not want to repeat again). I bought Lamy nibs by mistake and don't even want to start down the Lamy road, so I'm leaving those untouched. I still love all the pens I have, but for future purchases, I think I'll stick strictly to the pens that take #5 or #6 Jowo nibs without much of a struggle in the feed

[music] Hello, welcome back to another pen talk. Thanks for tuning in. Thanks for joining me as I explore the wide world of pens. Yes, you see before you a pen you kind of might recognize

 If you're interested in this pen, just do a search for X One Five Nine. I think that's the easiest and that seems to show up. There was only one seller when I bought this, but now there's more and the price looks like it's consistent around eight us dollars delivered. You may find a cheaper price, but they charge your shipping, so at the end of the day you're still paying about eight bucks

 It's about the biggest section in any pen that I have, so let's uh, put some more Watermen Serenity Blue ink on paper and then we'll do a final summation. So so I like the Nib more than I expected. Uh, they did a nice job with it. It certainly feels a little bit different on the paper than any other jinhao nib that I have, and that's a good sign

 It's well done and for the price point, extremely well done. It certainly fits well in the hand without posting and you may ask, does it post and the answer is yes, it does. You need to put a little bit of pressure and that cap really slides in securely. You notice the change in the weight, but it's still pretty well balanced in the hand and that cap is secure

Jinhao X159 Black Acrylic Fountain Pen Review - a large nib!

Can't beat Jinhao for bang for your buck.  The 159 and x750 are great writers.  You can also swap nibs on them pretty easily.

I’m trying to get into fountain pens however I am in high school and therefore have zero money. I’ve done some research and the LAMY Safari seems to be the best option for cheap- is that right? Are there any other pens that are good for a beginner and cheap? Thanks

Fountain pen suggestions

 There's a difference in feel between cheap, injection molded plastic and turned acrylic. Don't expect a $30 twsbi eco to feel as heavy, as solid, as substantial, as hand filling, as a Visconti Homo Sapiens made from lava resin.

Hey all, long story short, I realize that oftentimes in hobbies, price is arbitrary and does not necessarily have a positive correlation with quality. 

In my primary hobby, people swear up and down that a $500 product is unparalleled, but in testing, a $75 product might outshine it. . . or at least perform like a very high percentage of that product without hurting your pocket too much. 

So, is there anything like that in the world of pens? Let me know. I hear Hongdian Black Forest has an incredible return in value for $15. Any other cool shit like that? Maybe something cheap that when tuned right will just blow your hair back? 

Gonna sign off and check this in the morning. Any advice or recommendations are welcome here.

Pen noob who would not like the pen-noob pen.

 The grip section is enormous, but somehow is really comfortable.  Jinhao has really stepped up the game on quality control. This nib is glassy smooth, a medium (it says broad in the listing but it's just a typical western medium) and the converter works great. The fit and finish is superb, the materials feel lovely in the hand for the price, and the black lacquer on the metal barrel is durable and deep

 So far have only used Jinhao cartridges for ink and flows without priming if stored correctly. Would order again as price is right and pen performs well.
