Tudor Black Bay 58 vs Orient Mako Ii

After seeing the Tudor Black Bay 58 on social media I had to go into an AD and see one for myself. Went to the closest AD and found one on their nato strap, tried it on, and fell in love! But I did not buy it on site. I had to try it on the bracelet before pulling the trigger.

The mineral crystal is ok. It helps keep the watch affordable. The only real negative is the bracelet. A better made clasp would be a welcome relief

In the end, for me, it felt more my style than a sub and has a bit more unique character to it. My favorite element is the contrast between the matte dial and the gilt shiny hands and marker surrounds.

I love the design and attention to detail this watch has, plus the fact that if you change the strap to a brown leather or even fabric it can be matched with more casual wear. This Mako II is the first Orient watch I've had that has had this problem. The fit and finish of the Mako II are generally nice, but it seems that Orient is beginning to cut corners in manufacturing, which is disappointing to me as an Orient collector. The case for the new-production Mako II just doesn't seem as well made as my other watches, like the Sun and Moon, Triton, Classic and Bambino. In terms of watch for dollars, it's a terrible bargain. It's obviously great in resale terms, but I don't wear watches for the next owner. I'd take a lightly used Pelagos or Planet Ocean (both around $4k) before spending my money on a Submariner. Or a BB58 if it fit my wrist

I find I can't stop looking at it and appreciating how sharp and clean it looks. Best watch for $150(ish) for sure, can't beat the value.

A lot has been said about this one but it really is close to perfection. Timekeeping wise this is the most accurate mechnical watch I've owned, in a week it had gained 4 seconds which is really awesome.

The accuracy has been a little fast but seems to be settling down. Over all this is a nice watch for the money.

Perfect travel watch. I take this and this watch only on all of my overseas travel – functional, robust, don’t have to stress about banging it up, don’t have to worry about it getting stolen.

That is where this watch shined. It ain't a zillion dollar Rolex or a Breightling. But it is gonna last and do its job. And it is something you can give to the kids, even if just as a token

my take: the everyday watch gotta have a date, preferably day/date, *at least* 100m water resistance, crazy comfortable to wear, good in every outfit (unless you have a particular watch for dressy occasions). anything from Sinn is a good idea, but you can also look at the Tudor Black Bay 58, if you don't own it already. oh and Yema makes some excellent divers that are usually in the 1k bucks range.

PROS: -Hacking and hand winding movement. -great size, fits most wrists well (my wristbis almost 8 inches) -screw down crown -day/date complication -pretty good bezel action (120 click), with lume pip -all around attractive dial, and hand-set -accuracy is quite good, it's runs 3-4 seconds fast a day. I'm completely happy with that for the price. -its more water resistant then I will ever test
