Trek Roscoe. About the same pricing and same components as the grand canyon. Just got one for my wife yesterday who Started mountain biking.

Roadie here looking to get into MTB after already getting into gravel.  

Sorry, I know questions like this have been posted before. But just looking for any new input since most of the posts I found in search refer to 2021 or earlier Model Years and it seems like new tech/bikes/builds come out practically weekly.

Looking to spend not more than $1500 or so. Riding around where I live is probably split between "Trail"/"XC".  Probably a more "trail", but gotta climb everywhere.  Ideally also looking for a bike that I won't be itching to spend money to upgrade components. (I know nobody "needs" to buy upgrades, but come on... we know what we are...)

The [Grand Canyon 7](https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-7/2617.html?dwvar_2617_pv_rahmenfarbe=BU%2FBK#all-components-section-tab) comes in around $1300. SRAM SX, Dropper Post, Judy Silver Air Fork. Not sure how Canyon works, but on the Canada site the also list a [Grand Canyon 8](https://www.canyon.com/en-ca/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-8/2619.html?dwvar_2619_pv_rahmenfarbe=GY%2FRD#all-components-section-tab) which I don't see listed on the US site.   Looks like the upgrades from the 7 are SRAM SX to Shimano Deore 12, and the Judy fork to a Fox 34 Rhythm.  Price converted to USD is just over $1500. That would actually probably be perfect for what I want. From what I've read SX and the Judy fork are "okay", whereas Deore and the Fox would be a definite step up. But, I don't know if I can actually buy it.  Canyon Canada also gets a [Stotic 3](https://www.canyon.com/en-ca/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/stoic/stoic-3/2660.html?dwvar_2660_pv_rahmenfarbe=GY#all-components-section-tab) at about $1400 (converted to USD), wheres the US site only lists a Stoic 2 ($1200 but 10sp &amp; no Dropper post), or a Stoic 4 ($2000= more than I want to spend).

The other option I see around is the [Polygon Xtrada 7](https://www.polygonbikes.com/product/mountain/xtrada-7-4/). Their US dealer BikesOnline has it around $1k. Comes with Deore 12 and thru-axles. But the fork, Suntour XCR32 Air, (from what I've seen online) seems to be a bit of a let down. Though not sure if it would feel like that to me, who's used to rigid road bike.  Also it isn't  15x110 spacing like the Canyons.  So any Fork upgrade I assume also means you need new wheel/hub as well. The Xtrada also has 27.2 seatpost and doesn't come with a Dropper. So, $1000 upfront, but get a Dropper (what are they like $150 give or take?) and it inches closer to the Grand Canyon7 in price while not having as nice a fork (but does have Deore 12). Not sure what a fork upgrade would cost/if there are any Forks worth upgrading to that would have the same 15x100 spacing.  

As an aside, what does it take to upgrade from something like a Deore 10/11sp to 12?  Just cassette and adjust the Deraileur?  Or do you need new hubs, Deraileurs, shifters, etc?

Anyway, apologies for the wall-o-text.  A bit bored at work here on Friday and maybe I got a bit carried away hahah. Thanks in advance for any input!

Is there a better "budget" MTB out there than the Grand Canyon 7 that is available in the US?

Just got the bike a couple days ago and today (July/9/2022) I went to Culham Trails in Mississauga and had a blast. 

I would buy the bike again

 My only complaint of the 2021 Roscoe 8 was that the front was a little heavy. Other than that, great bike! I think the 2022 model will be even better. 9/10 would recommend.

 Let put them on the scales. I'Ve got set scales here, 25 mil wide tire. They weigh 304 grams, but that's enough talk time to find out how easy or difficult these new tires are to install on a tubas rim. And, let's put him to a test by using the brand, need fulcrum Racing zero wheel

 It'S the same stuff they'd, be using for the mountain bike tires for a good few years now to him adapted it for the road market. You could use any other city on the market in their loads available, but Conti clearly say you should use this stuff. So I'm gon na use that, but for the purposes of this video and its installation on the lead to one side, because I'm going to do a dry installation, basically turning ceilings. So I'm going to fit the tire to the rim and see if it inflates

Fitting Continental GP5000 TUBELESS tyres

Chicago’s roads are rough…it’s not just potholes, it’s gravel and ripped up roads and layers of potholes fixed for years on top of each other, so I was looking at 28mm, lower PSI to increase comfort while cycling without losing speed.

I have a 2022 Trek Emonda SL6 eTap. That’s a wholly carbon aero road bike with tubeless-ready Aeolus carbon rims. Standard is 25mm clincher tires. I can typically maintain 19-22mph

 Although Stan's sealant was used, the 5000 TL need the pressure increased every two days versus about four days for the 4000s ii with tubes. The 5000 TL has a smaller profile than the 4000s ii, but the 31 mm cross-sectional width of the 5000 TL is a better aero fit for my 25 mm inside width wheels. Grip of the 5000 TL was excellent from the first ride. After 950 miles, I would say the the performance of the 5000 TL is very similar to the 4000s ii on both dry and wet pavement

... That'S game over! So what do we do? Well, We could have just swapped the tyre off, but before swapping the tyre off, I thought I'd push it to the limits Pumping the tyre up to 140 PSI

 I wouldn't be commuting on these if you're lucky enough to have a training set of wheels and a racing set of wheels. Keep these to the race. Set., Don't worry about training on them

 If they're watching this one, I am moving to GP5000 clinchers., So I've got some clinchers. 25 mm clinchers, I'm going to put some latex tubes on them, which the data shows are pretty handy when it comes to rolling resistance, So stay tuned in a few months. ( fingers crossed ) for a long-term review of the clincher version of these tyres

Continental GP5000 Tubeless Tyres // Long Term Review

Okay back here in the garage this afternoon doing some bike maintenance it's been a while since we've been out here

So I thought I'd give you my take today on the lifespan and my experience of my GP5000 tubeless tyres

Now there's a lot of reviews out there on the GP5000's because when the y were released they were sent out

Far and wide the reviews cover the specifications, the rolling resistance. They're a fast set of tyres. The weight, where to buy them

I've been looking for long-term reviews though, and there's not a lot of those out there

So today, the life and death of two GP5000 TL tyres.

So if you've been playing the long game here on the GP llama channel, you'll know my experience with tubeless tyres

Specifically the installation has been a little up and down

Installation of these tyres brand new were fine! Eight minutes front, eight minutes back. Not a problem whatsoever

Brand new tubeless on-road rims, no problems at all

It's later on down the track when you try and repair them or swap them.

Yeah, that becomes a bit of trouble for me

But none of those problems with the GP5000 TL's. They went on no problems. Once installed out on the road

Nothing much to report really there are set of tyres. The cornering, the grip, the ride feel, all pretty good to be honest

I couldn't feel those few watts of savings front and back with these superior tyres because to be honest

It's more about how much coffee I consume before the ride, which gives me faster legs than having the faster bike

There's a reason for that after only a few weeks of riding and only about 400 kilometres. Here's what happened there
