Trek Roscoe. About the same pricing and same components as the grand canyon. Just got one for my wife yesterday who Started mountain biking.

Roadie here looking to get into MTB after already getting into gravel.  

Sorry, I know questions like this have been posted before. But just looking for any new input since most of the posts I found in search refer to 2021 or earlier Model Years and it seems like new tech/bikes/builds come out practically weekly.

Looking to spend not more than $1500 or so. Riding around where I live is probably split between "Trail"/"XC".  Probably a more "trail", but gotta climb everywhere.  Ideally also looking for a bike that I won't be itching to spend money to upgrade components. (I know nobody "needs" to buy upgrades, but come on... we know what we are...)

The [Grand Canyon 7](https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-7/2617.html?dwvar_2617_pv_rahmenfarbe=BU%2FBK#all-components-section-tab) comes in around $1300. SRAM SX, Dropper Post, Judy Silver Air Fork. Not sure how Canyon works, but on the Canada site the also list a [Grand Canyon 8](https://www.canyon.com/en-ca/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-8/2619.html?dwvar_2619_pv_rahmenfarbe=GY%2FRD#all-components-section-tab) which I don't see listed on the US site.   Looks like the upgrades from the 7 are SRAM SX to Shimano Deore 12, and the Judy fork to a Fox 34 Rhythm.  Price converted to USD is just over $1500. That would actually probably be perfect for what I want. From what I've read SX and the Judy fork are "okay", whereas Deore and the Fox would be a definite step up. But, I don't know if I can actually buy it.  Canyon Canada also gets a [Stotic 3](https://www.canyon.com/en-ca/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/stoic/stoic-3/2660.html?dwvar_2660_pv_rahmenfarbe=GY#all-components-section-tab) at about $1400 (converted to USD), wheres the US site only lists a Stoic 2 ($1200 but 10sp &amp; no Dropper post), or a Stoic 4 ($2000= more than I want to spend).

The other option I see around is the [Polygon Xtrada 7](https://www.polygonbikes.com/product/mountain/xtrada-7-4/). Their US dealer BikesOnline has it around $1k. Comes with Deore 12 and thru-axles. But the fork, Suntour XCR32 Air, (from what I've seen online) seems to be a bit of a let down. Though not sure if it would feel like that to me, who's used to rigid road bike.  Also it isn't  15x110 spacing like the Canyons.  So any Fork upgrade I assume also means you need new wheel/hub as well. The Xtrada also has 27.2 seatpost and doesn't come with a Dropper. So, $1000 upfront, but get a Dropper (what are they like $150 give or take?) and it inches closer to the Grand Canyon7 in price while not having as nice a fork (but does have Deore 12). Not sure what a fork upgrade would cost/if there are any Forks worth upgrading to that would have the same 15x100 spacing.  

As an aside, what does it take to upgrade from something like a Deore 10/11sp to 12?  Just cassette and adjust the Deraileur?  Or do you need new hubs, Deraileurs, shifters, etc?

Anyway, apologies for the wall-o-text.  A bit bored at work here on Friday and maybe I got a bit carried away hahah. Thanks in advance for any input!

Is there a better "budget" MTB out there than the Grand Canyon 7 that is available in the US?

Just got the bike a couple days ago and today (July/9/2022) I went to Culham Trails in Mississauga and had a blast. 

I would buy the bike again

 My only complaint of the 2021 Roscoe 8 was that the front was a little heavy. Other than that, great bike! I think the 2022 model will be even better. 9/10 would recommend.

 And so i think the compliance in that sense is going to really rely on your tire pressure in these really big wide tires in the back canyon does a little bit more for compliance. So you've got this vcls seat post, which is designed to pivot for an aft to give you some of that comfort over you know, rockier, gravel trails or even just your your rough new england style, uh roads. They also incorporate a lower uh seat, clamp bolt and that helps the seat post pivot more than it otherwise would, and they have something called the comfort kink. And basically, what that is is a taper here in the uh, the seat tube, and that allows a little bit more of that four af flex so again, just sort of relying on that for aflex to provide the the compliance in the rear

 Zeke makes great saddles this. Just isn't one this isn't one of them uh. Actually, one of my favorite saddles right now is a physique, but this is just not the one yeah you know, canyon, they they they often use uh. I feel like kind of undersized soft kind of nuts and bolts and things, and - and so you know we as part of these reviews - we you know we're moving the the handlebars around stuff for different testers and things like that, and just little silly little things right

 That'S it doesn't have a lot of like exceptional characteristics. It just also doesn't have anything that annoys you right. It'S just solid. It does what you want it to do: it's stable when you need it to be, but it would go around a corner as fast as you need it to it's

 What are these 32s 30s 30s they're 30s on a big wide rim, so they've probably measured more than 30.. I haven't actually pulled the calipers out yet, but they're big and that it, like, i said, makes kind of a bike of two personalities which, frankly, i think is what a lot of people are actually looking for these days. You want a bike that when you stand up out of the saddle and you're going around a corner, it responds to you, but really we're not racing the tour de france

 Also, the speed increase is non-linear. A road bike is super snappy to accelerate, has much higher top speed capacity than any MTB and it handles a lot differently, it uses a different body position. It is a different experience riding it. I like both, but when it comes to a good asphalt nothing beats a road bike

 However, consider carefully that you already have a MTB you can take on those poor roads. I personally went with endurance road bike and I have three other bikes for riding in poor weather, offroading and dirt. I use the road bike on a road and it works great for that.

If you aren't planning on chasing time records on segments or getting in to a racing scene, go for an endurance frame, because those are just more comfortable to ride on. Classic (racing) road bikes are generally designed for speed and aggressive posture, which is great for what they do, but less comfortable for every day riding if you don't particularly care about bleeding edge speed gains. Especially for someone who has never had a road bike before. 

I've been cycling off and on the past 3 years. I ride a 2006 Kona Hoss (Hardtail MTB). I've swapped the stock tires for a more hybrid tire and find myself spending most of my time on the road. I also do quite a bit of gravel riding, but my ultimate goal is to do some longer rides.

I have been looking at primarily specialized and canyon. Part of me is thinking for my first road bike I should get something entry level like a Specialized Allen sport. But on the flip side I'm always a fan of future proofing, so the canyon endurace or ultimate cf sl 8 disc also seems great. I've also had a specialized diverge recommended to me. 

I realize these bikes are way apart in price and spec. But due to my lack of personal experience I would love some feedback on what other people would do if they were buying their first bike again. I would love to start doing group rides and the enthusiast crowd around here is pretty great. As such I want to be sure I can keep up. Once I'm in better shape of course.

It all seems very overwhelming. Race vs endurance vs gravel, what is the difference at top speed etc. The list of questions goes on.

Purchasing my first road bike and would love input.

What'S up biker fans, this is my review of the canyon enduras cf sl8 di2. So all those numbers mean carbon fiber, the sl version, the model 8 and or i should build spec 8.0 and di2 means there is an 8.0 with a mechanical shimano group and there's the di2 here with the ultegra di2 group

So, let's take a look at some of the details of the frame, a few of the parts that i swapped out and why i swapped them out and then we'll get into the ride, review and wrap it up as a consumer. Direct brand canyon needs to ensure their bikes arrive in perfect condition, since there's no bike shop there to handle blemishes for you, so it's packed really well and they need to make sure you have all the right tools to put it together

 At the crown too, the two axle dropouts both get custom covers with canyon's logo. It'S a little thing, but this bike is full of those little finishing touches that give it a premium appearance out back. There'S a beefy derailleur hanger for more precise shifting and better durability. The chainstays aren't super thick, but they do the job

59 pounds or 7.98 kilograms. So it's relatively light, especially considering the price, is a very reasonable. 39

Canyon Endurace road bike review

The R3 is priced extremely highly. It’s also a bike which to my knowledge has had issues with bottom bracket creaking. You can get a brand new carbon bike for $2000 so I don’t get why you’d look for something that old necessarily? Carbon doesn’t always translate to light, depending on the whole system weight.

A trek 1.1 in 56 should weight approx 10kg so your upside is 2kg at best. Then you probably save 200-400g on light tires (try the veloflex open tubulars). I personally wouldn’t buy the ones you’ve listed above

I’m looking to tackle Colorado hills but also want to get back into century shape so I wanted a carbon bike that can tackle steep hills but also won’t kill me as I start riding longer and longer distances. I’ve narrowed it down to the three in the title. 

2018 Cervelo R3 (Ultegra) -$2250
2012 Specialized Tarmac SL 3(Dura-Ace) - $1500
2010 Specialized Roubaix Pro (Dura-Ace) - $1025

I know the R3 and Tarmac are more aggressive and the Roubaix is the more comfortable ride but I’m wondering if the price difference for the R3 is justified for a newer bike or if any of these offers stand out as a clear winner.

2018 Cervelo R3 Vs 2010 Specialized Roubaix Pro Vs 2012 Specialized Tarmac SL3

 I guess a couple of times. I'Ve felt that i've gotten that sort of uh sail quality from the wind, and yet you definitely feel cross winds if you get hit with a gust, much more, no big, surprise on uh on wheels with, i think they're like a 46 millimeter um sidewall, as opposed To a more traditional wheel set so um, but regardless i love them. I wouldn't trade. It um, i think they're super cool um

 I would encourage anyone out there who's, looking for an endurance frame, in particular an endurance frame that sort of cheats more towards the race frame geometry. Uh. I think the canyon endures is a phenomenal choice. I'M not going to sit here and tell you that i've ridden everything but i've written a couple of felts i've written a couple

 But it's worked out really nicely. This one is aluminum. The last one was plastic. Last one was obviously garbage

 I got it off of ebay, it was plastic, but it kind of it felt pretty solid. Anyway, i switched to a um, just an aluminum one seems much more uh rugged and i actually like that. It recesses the light a little further back, a little closer to the cockpit as opposed to flush with the front of the garmin computer. So i think the new one is is pretty cool, that's no fault of canyons, unless it actually was a canyon mount, but i don't know so
