This is a repeat purchase, not as a replacement but as a backup. The Totes umbrella is exactly what I think a good umbrella should be. The construction is sturdy, the materials are substantial, and it feels like it will be around for a good long while. This is not a throw-away umbrella

 It's past the return window so I can't exchange it, other than that it's a great umbrella.

Really Great Idea

I really wanted this to be bigger. My other inbrella has a larger surface so I stay dryer. This is pretty small for anyone who needs to walk move than from curb to car.

I love the color and appearance of this umbrella including the nice wooden “J” shaped handle. I haven’t had the need to use it yet (a good thing I guess; let the rains start after this cold snowy winter is over). I did open it to test the mechanism and it opened fine; closing it was easy as well. I can’t speak of it’s durability as I haven’t tested it on a rainy, windy day, but it looks well crafted the stand the tests

 I was pleasantly surprised that this is bigger than my old folding umbrella. I’m very happy with this purchase. Totes has always been my go-to brand for umbrellas.

  The umbrella is big and sheds rain well. The quick release mechanism is sturdy and reliable, and not difficult to close.  I love being able to hook it on my bag strap and walk with it handsfree or put it in the handle of a briefcase.  Whenever I get married, this will probably be part of a groomsman gift I like these so much

  I have never had any issues with durability or breakage. The handle gets scratched if you handle it roughly like any piece of wood, but that's no fault of the umbrella. I have put my full weight on it repeatedly like a cane when carrying it and waiting to cross the street. It flexes but I have never heard any cracks or had issues with breakage

Despite its low cost, this offering under the e-commerce giant’s house brand blew away most competition in wind-resistance tests. It also comes in a variety of colors, but they tend to vary in price, plus this model has a history of stock issues.

I wanted a compact umbrella while carrying things from/to my house. At 38 inches, the canopy is sized and weighted for protection without being cumbersome.  My headline says "semi-automatic" because the button does not fully reverse the opening action. Initially, the button will extend the shaft and expand the canopy

 Pressing the button again will collapse the canopy but not the shaft. Pressing the button while the canopy is collapsed and the shaft is extended does not re-expand the canopy. In other words, expanding the canopy via the button is only possible when the shaft is collapsed.  Mindful of not breaking the ribs for this review, I could tell that the vents weren't functional enough to relieve enough stress on the ribs

I found this umbrella to have the right balance of being sturdy and portable. Light enough to carry around in my work bag but strong enough to withstand a wet and windy Seattle rain shower. The only problem with this product is it weight. Most portable umbrellas are light but not this one. Good price, great color, keeps me dry. Wish it was lighter to carry

 Since the closing isn't automatic and you have to anchor it manually, there has been times that I tried to just open the umbrella back to use again going back outside, but was unable to do so until I closed it completely and locked it down, then pushed the button to automatically snap it open again. It requires that snap of the button release to lock in the open position to be useful in the rain. It is a nice size for storing next to the drivers seat between the door and the seat.

I've had this for a little over a year, and it works well enough with rain and wind. My biggest complaint is that the velcro has basically stopped working to hold it closed. That's not a big deal except that I carry it in my bag, and the velcro often comes loose and lets the umbrella fabric spread out inside the bag. Better-quality velcro or another half-inch of it would have helped a lot
