This is for holding your chain when you rejoin one super useful to have that one immortal and it's a really nice secure, fit on the tools you're not going to lose that again. If you look up close you'll see, there are spoke keys on here for 14 and 15 G's and also there for a Mavic and a Shimano. So that's great a little extra feature

 Okay. Now we have to go over a couple cons, because every honest review has to talk about the cons of every multi-tool. So first up is because this tool uses a high chromium content, stainless steel. The knife blade isn't going to have quite as good of edge retention as other multi-tools using 420 hc steel

 One of my biggest pet peeves of this particular multi-tool were the scissors, while the scissor design is overall, pretty good, they actuate well and they're very sturdy. The fact that they don't open up very far just limits the usefulness of them now this next con might actually be a pro for some people. The screwdrivers do not have bit interchangeability like the leatherman waves. Do the downside for this is, if you need things like a torx bit or a hex drive anything like that, you do not have the ability to add it to this multi-tool where, on, like the waiver surge you do, the pro of that feature is you'll, never Lose the screwdriver so long

 It'S the chisel, slash wire strippers and box cutter. I think this edge is technically classified as a wire case cutter by victorinox, but i personally think it's a great box cutter or doing things like cutting open, concrete bags bags of sand. Things like that that you would not ever want to use a regular knife blade for and since this multi-tool does not have a serrated edge blade. This little box cutter is going to come in really handy for you, so good job on the wire strippers, chisel and box cutter

 However, the regular wire cutters - they kind of have this second notch in there, and i would have preferred a just plain edge there kind of like the leatherman wave, for example. I just don't think the second notch really helps it if anything, it's a hindrance, especially when you're trying to cut larger diameter wire where it might not fit neatly into that notch. So that's a little bit of a knock. I have on it

 Velcro works best here since you can hear the thing "tear" open in almost any environment and avoid losing your tool.  This is my second Victorinox product and I can say that I'm happy with both. The Cybertool almost met my needs but the pliers simply didn't cut it in the workplace (light industrial technician). Carrying both would be ideal (I do) but the average person could quite easily go with the Swisstool Spirit X

Like my Cybertool 41, this item seems to be the same exact quality I'm beginning to expect from Victorinox. That is to say, very nice as far as I can tell. The tools have not been used or abused just yet but that is coming very soon now because I use this tool at work.  The tools themselves are the precise assortment that I would choose to have on a plier based multi-tool, hence my purchase

Initial Impressions

5. Both are pretty stout despite images, and should hold up fine to typical use. The nice bit is both can be replaced if you do somehow manage to break them.

3. I think there's a few locations that handle warranty repairs over in Europe, the UK branch being the one I'm aware of (American, BTW). I'd say do some research, and see where you'd have to send it, and factor that into your decision.

My general suggestion would be to go for the option that's more convenient and easiest on you. Both Victorinox and Leatherman are good options regardless, so pick the one that has the tools you want/need, is easy to procure, and finally, ease of warranty in your location for service, in that order. I mainly go with Leatherman because of how ubiquitous they are where I live (most stores, even non-sporting goods stores carry them).

I'm aware I'm not the first who struggles to choose between these options. I've read a lot of comparisons. I'm still left with some questions. If you can answer some of them I'd be very grateful!

Extra info: I don't own many tools, so this would be closer to my main toolbox than for some. I do own a Juice S2. I don't care about the price, I'm patient so I can save up more money if needed. I'm not looking to start a collection.  


1. The main swisstool's weakness seems to be soft steel. Has anyone actually damaged the Philips screwdriver so bad it's not functioning well anymore because of this? How? Did the warranty cover it?
2. Another advantage of the Leatherman options is the replaceable wire cutters. Has anyone damaged the swisstool wirecutter so bad they aren't usable anymore? What happened? Did the warranty cover it?
3. I'm in Europe. Leatherman has a great warranty, but how will that work for me? I recon I'd have to ship it to the US? That may turn out to be almost as costly as getting a replacement?
4. How strong are the Leatherman bit drivers compared to the philips on the ST300 and Spirit? I'd be using it with the extender, mainly. If I break anything, will the bit itself be most likely to break, or the bit driver or extender?
5. The file/saw on the surge seem short and flexible. Are they hard to use well?
6. I'm a woman with regular sized hand I'd say. The internet seems to want to point me to smaller tools, but I figure the longer handles would also give me a bit more leverage. I'm not super strong, so that seems like a plus. What would you recon?
7. Do any full size/heavy duty Leatherman tools have a knife with a shape similar to the spirit's? I haven't found any. It's not a huge deal, but as I'm in Europe, a non-threatening looking knife is a plus in some situations.

How good are the SwissTool multitools?

 This is probably going to displace my Leatherman Surge. While I like the one hand opening blades on the Surge, the minor flaws and quality issues are a bit annoying. The Swisstool appears to be better quality for less money.

Recently picked up a Swisstool. The fit and finish is incredible.

 I really love everything else about this tool, but wire cutters that won’t cut multi-strand wire is a deal breaker for me. I’ll be returning them.

 The wire cutters are terrible. They cut bailing wire fine, but will not cut multi-strand electrical wire cleanly. The notches in the cutters are too deep and allow several strands to escape being cut. As an example, trying to cut an 18 ga

 To my mind, it's just something else that can work loose, and adds even more weight. The only wire I cut is copper anyway, so I doubt I'll wear out the ones on the Spirit X in my lifetime. One thing I really like about the Wave+, though, is the presence of a diamond file. (Are you listening, Victorinox?) Update: Sadly, I have to change my tune only a couple of days after my initial review

I do own other brand multitools and have a desk drawer full of them and they are used solely for opening envelopes and packages. When I need a multitool at work I want a `real' multitool that I can depend on to do the job at hand - the following 3 are my choices, depending on the assignment

 The three best for the money in my opinion are the 1. SOG Powerlock , 2. Victorinox SwissTool and 3. SOG Pocket PowerPlier - don't waste your money on anything else - no other multitool can come close to a SOG or Victorinox in performance, functionality and warranty
