First things first, let’s take a look at this pack’s external pockets, starting with the large pocket on the front. We’ve been keeping the essentials like our keys, wallet, and a pair of headphones inside for easy grabbing-and-going while we’re on the move, and its bright liner makes everything inside easy to spot. We do wish the zipper for this pocket were on the opposite side, as we’re typically slinging bags around our right side when reaching inside, but your mileage may vary. 

The zippers on this pack have altogether been working smoothly during our testing. They have large, easy-to-grab pulls that help them zip and unzip with ease. This comes as no surprise, as they’re from YKK, which is a brand we have mostly positive experiences with (and a lot of them). We do have one small nitpick with the zippers around the main and laptop compartments that we’ll cover later in the review

At the very top of the bag is a thick handle with lots of padding that’s comfortable to grab and convenient for picking up the pack when you need to move it or get something out. It also features that same seat belt-like material you’ll find on the shoulder straps that’s nice and smooth in hand.

Now, we’re going to move into this pack’s front compartment. It opens up horseshoe-style and has some gusseted fabric on the sides, which allows you to get some nice visibility and access inside that you wouldn’t normally get with this kind of opening.

 for an ultralight Pac-man I mean, this thing's super tough. All right, let's see if I can figure this out. Recording by myself here. So it is a roll top so it has this velcro up top here and you can roll it down and you've got your buckle

 Uh, and I heard it. But the you know we're talking a three inch thorn. there. You know that was going to tear about anything but nylon

 I mean, it carries weight so well for an ultralight pack. I mean, I've had 32 33 pounds in this thing. Um, you know I've taken it down to, you know, a 15 degree Ohio winner and still got all my gear in there for a 50 liter pack. And it carries well

 Because I prefer using my backpack beltless, I was trying to figure out a way to do it, so I looked at the back and I go, if I wrap around those things to the front, let's just try that. So I flipped it over. Then I wrapped the hip belts around and I I clipped them behind at the back. uh, through the loops designed for holding the therm rest and such

 This is my experiment of going with no hip belt on this backpack. Although the hip belt on this backpack can be removed and it's interchangeable for different sizes, it's not designed to be worn without a hip belt. Because I prefer using my backpack beltless, I was trying to figure out a way to do it, so I looked at the back and I go, if I wrap around those things to the front, let's just try that. So I flipped it over

 But there was one problem after I took my shirt off, which was a Patagonia stretch sun. there was some premature wear at the back panel, so I consider this a fail. Yeah, I never had that problem with this backpack before wearing a hip belt, so I've learned that this backpack is designed to be worked with a hip belt. In conclusion, if the Z-pack's Nero and the Z-packs Arc Hall had a baby, it would be the Arc Air

Zpacks Arc Air Backpack - Review

 I've got my cook kit inside there. This is a 0.9 liter ever new pot and it's pot cozy and it just barely fits in this add-on top pouch side pocket. I have to squeeze in the cozy a little bit

 I tend to carry this pack with very little weight on my shoulders and almost all of the weight transfer to the hip belt. This trip I had 15.3 pounds in here without my water, although with my food and um, so, I was carrying up to about 18 pounds. The external frame on this pack is made of carbon fiber

 The trail conditions that I've used it on vary from very well maintained such as the Appalachian Trail to narrow and less maintained to the Fiery Gizzard in Tennessee where there are several miles of large boulders that you essentially have to rock a hop across. It has also been with me on anywhere from a very steep climb or a very steep descent to smooth, flat terrain. The range of conditions that I've used this pack in are from approximately 20 degrees Fahrenheit up to about 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I had a non-snowy but winter condition trips I'm in between trips and then a humid and warm and the I think it was in the 80s
