Thule EasyFold XT 2 vs Field Notes Expedition

Great design but not for every bike. I have a Trek Powerfly 4 eBike which I love. The ramp does make it easier to get the bike on the rack but tough for 1 person. Takes 2 to really guide it up the small included ramp

As much as I like the durability, and as much as I wanted a notebook that would stand the test of time (and the trials of my purse), this was not for me. I purchased another three-pack which should get along with me a little better.

75” deeper - and our bikes have only 2” tires, they aren’t fat tires, which others have complained about. Third con is trivial but there isn’t any way to secure the ramp in place once the bikes are on, I just dropped the ramp into a depression in the middle of the rack and held it in place with a bungee cord; that shouldn’t be necessary on an expensive rack like this. In summary: this is a very good rack but it could be improved.

Relatively lightweight with a folding design that collapses for storage or when not in use. The loading process is somewhat complicated and the ramp is too short when used with a truck or Jeep. The bike frame attachment system isn't very adjustable. Lots of plastic and moving parts, we have some durability concerns

It doesn't take a genius to realize that you probably shouldn't be writing underwater then putting a notebook away wet, but it should be at least addressed for those who actually might be wanting to do that for whatever crazy reason. Otherwise the books are fantastic and it was a great little 3-pack for the purchase. Chances are I will be buying the same type next time around just because I love how well they hold up, ink aside. I'll just keep writing with a pencil instead!

The bottom plate could be wider, too, at least 4" to put some space between the bikes. We had to put something between our bikes to keep them from getting banged up. The straps that hold the tires in place are wayyyy too short. I have no idea why they wouldn't offer a choice of strap sizes

I love Aaron Draplin, the graphic designer who helped design Field Notes. He is awesome and so are these notebooks. They're super durable and totally rad. DO IT

The ramp is somewhat useless because it’s flimsy and moves around when attached to the rack. It’s hard to keep in place. My bike weighs 52 lbs without the battery. When placing it on the rack the tires do not stay very well in the tracks

It works with a Sharpie fine tip but it lacks the ability to "glide" like a ball point or gel pen so it's a PITA to write a lot of content. I write copious notes so this is a deal breaker. I purchased the Uni Jetstream pen that has fast drying ink and while it works, it works to a degree with the Expedition. I found for some reason, the ink won't write in certain spots

It's a tight squeeze fitting 2 ebikes on this rack, but we did it. Hopefully, we'll be able to travel with it. I think it's time someone comes up with a rack for fat tire Ebikes!!! PLEASE!!!

I've used the "Write In Rain" type , so I was used to having to find a certain pen or pencil. The Field Notes Expedition notebooks are like that. If you don't use the right pen, it will smear on the nearly tear proof, water resistant paper. I've found that a pencil works well all the time and as for a pen, the UniBall "Jetstream" works best

Cannot give it 5 stars for 2 reasons. The price is outrageous and the ramp that comes with it is too short for an suv. I think since they are including the ramp it should be one that works for all vehicles. In order to use the feature of the ramp you have to either rig yourself a longer addition or buy an additional longer ramp for $80

Price. 3 for 10 bucks. That is a lot better than what you pay for rite in the rain and some other brands. So it is hard to beat on that front

I love Field Notes and pretty much buy everything they put out. Their American-made quality & company integrity really shows in how they conduct themselves and the products they provide. I bought these, as I have been a longtime fan of weather/water-proof notebooks (like "Write-in-the-Rain") series, so I was excited to get my hands on these. I must say they are impeccably designed & manufactured, and the recycled plastic-based paper is a great concept
