The North Face Borealis pack offers spacious storage that holds oodles of books. We love it for its easy-to-use pockets, separate computer access, and voluminous interior. It has all the necessary organizational features with many add-ons that make it a stellar option for both the city and the trails. This is a versatile pack that's fantastic for work, school, travel, or running errands. It's durable and water-resistant, performing well through most weather.
While we don't mind this pack's outdoorsy style, we know this aesthetic isn't for everyone — some might find it more appropriate in a mountain town than a professional urban setting. And though the back panel is breathable, we found the material to be somewhat scratchy when it was in direct contact with our skin.  Those thumb straps come in handy, especially in situations where you might not be able to get you know your fingers to adjust the bags. You can just pull those thumb straps down and it'll adjust by himself, which I thought was handy. It also has like a little key holder. You see those little levers that are on there

 So sitting for hours waiting for planes in aircraft departure lounges, all of that sort of stuff and I started to notice that those kind of that that what what middle tier management kind of people. Um certainly people in it that that like you know my preparation profession that would turn up to to events. A lot of them were carrying the North Face Borealis so I started to research into it. I started to try and work out what made this bag special

The North Face Borealis - ICONIC EDC Backpack

 I'Ve used a few north face bags over the years and they've all held up very well so on the outside. This has a really nice 600d polyester. That feels like it's gon na hold up well to rougher usage while not being super heavy, and then the bag also has some really nice ykk zippers all throughout that seem to also offer a nice amount of weather resistance and then continuing along the outside the bag. Has a lot going on here, so there's some attachment points on the front

 That'S as comfortable as this back here now that was going to come in at a little bit of a higher price point. But if you're looking for something that has that clamshell style opening and it's just going to work very well for all different environments. And that's going to be a really solid option to keep in mind and then, if you have a little bit of a higher budget, the last option that i'll mention here is the air tech pack 2, which has been one of my favorite daily bags. That'S been released recently, and that has a really modern and sleek aesthetic

 To check out and so to wrap up, it's been a really great experience, testing out the borealis backpack over the past couple of weeks. The bag has been really comfortable to wear. It has a solid, build quality. I really like its organizational layout and it also has an impressive amount of space, and so you can currently purchase this on the north, face site or other sites like amazon, zappos or backcountry for about 90

North Face Borealis Backpack Review - GREAT 28L College and EDC Backpack

 I had it on a two week or a weekend trip with me. Been testing it for two weeks now. Um, water bottle pockets on the side, little pull tab here, really stretchy mesh you can toss your water bottle in. Really like that, and then these little compression straps on the side you can also use to hold like an umbrella down against

 So let's dive into all the little details of this thing. If you do want to follow along with our written review with photos over at Packhacker.com we'll leave a link down below for that as well. So let's dive in and check out every little detail of this bag

 Um, if you know what that is, leave in the comments below. I'd love to know and then opening up this kind of the main compartment of this bag. This also opens up horseshoe which I think makes sense for where this water bottle thing starts so the zipper kind of stops there. but sometimes I kind of wanted like a little bit more opening

 Um, water bottle pockets on the side, little pull tab here, really stretchy mesh you can toss your water bottle in. Really like that, and then these little compression straps on the side you can also use to hold like an umbrella down against. Here you can use it to pull this pack together so that can kind of smash and compress, get a little bit more low profile and a similar thing on the other side here too. pretty much mirrored on the other side

The North Face Borealis Backpack Review (2 Weeks of Use)

 Now, let's get up to the compartments, the borealis features a bungee cord system at the front, which is ideal for lashing on gear or putting in a jacket or a hat or some gloves anything that you need really quick access to. It is secured by this drawstring closure, which means that you can really tighten things up against the bag, or you can also stretch it out to fit bigger things as well, all all the loops for the bungee cord system. There is reflective detailing and the top there is a fleece liner, zippered compartment which goes down to about here and is good for a phone or some glasses. The next compartment is the organization compartment

 Some of the fabrics used include 600d polyester, 504, 20 D, nylon, 210 d, Cordura nylon ripstop, which is the one here and typically for most bags. They have a 1680 deep ballistic nylon base for extra ground durability. On top of all of that, there is heavy duty, nylon, webbing custom North Face dura flexed, buckles and smooth and reliable YKK zips. Ok, so, starting from the front, we have a stitched in half dome North Face logo as well as the model name here

 We are possibly one of the best harnesses ever developed from everyday backpack. The North Faces flex vent suspension system. It features a heavily padded back panel with these super comfy mesh pads here, and there is also a center channel for air flow extra breathability, both vertically and horizontally. These shoulder straps are also heavily padded and a contoured and feature custom injection, molded, foam kind of like memory foam inside the shoulder

 There's a little whistle so I'm gonna just blow it. Okay right there. So it has a whistle so this is great for like hiking if you're just like lost or you just want to blow your whistle outside. You can't just like throw stuff inside I prefer to have a clamshell where you know opens up and you can see everything that you're packing

 It's okay. if you look here on the sternum strap, take a look. There's a little whistle so I'm gonna just blow it. Okay right there

 but I think I wouldn't use her for long term trouble in my opinion. So this backpack is 28 litres and I'm about five six five seven. this is what it looks like on me that's not too big. What really surprised me about this bag is that when I found out is 28 liters which was like last week you won't be able to tell like oh wow, he has 28 litres in that backpack No this is actually a really good size and I'm it's not too big, not too small

 So it has a whistle so this is great for like hiking if you're just like lost or you just want to blow your whistle outside.  this is what it looks like on me that's not too big. What really surprised me about this bag is that when I found out is 28 liters which was like last week you won't be able to tell like oh wow, he has 28 litres in that backpack No this is actually a really good size and I'm it's not too big, not too small. pretty good. So there are a couple highlights I want to say about this bag which make it really good for just a lot of different things

While Northface makes a good quality bag this bag is too narrow for use as a book bag for a high school or college student. The opening is small and my son struggles to get more than 3 books in and out of the bag. If looking to just pack your laptop, a jacket and one book for a hiking trip then this is your bag but not for a book bag for a student. I am sorry I made this purchase

Not Ideal for a book at for HighSchool or College

I bought this pack for my son to use for Scouting; his only use of the pack was for an overnight hiking trip with his Troop.  Overall, the pack was one of the only kid-sized packs that would fit his frame and the associate at our store in Pittsburgh spent the time to fit him (Thank you!).  Because of this, we ended up ordering from REI.com since we wanted one of a different color than the store had in stock

  I would expect some wear on the pack after hiking 25 miles, but the mesh fabric turned out to be a bit too delicate for the use.  The other side had a similarly sized pocket, but was made from the nylon pack material (I would suggest both sides be made from the nylon). I have not purchased an REI brand product before, and I think I will look to other manufacturers before considering the store brand again.  Sorry REI, love the store and the service I get when I shop there, but I feel this product was sub-par

Good features, but construction could be better

 It's a nice overall pack that you can get a good amount of mileage out of at a good price point.

Great pack. Comfortable to wear and plenty of organization, but doesn’t go overboard in that department. I like the fleece-lined valuables pocket for stashing my phone in a pinch. Only minor complaint is that it doesn’t always stand on its own

Great pack for travel

Super uncomfortable, the shoulder straps were hard as a rock and the back was super rigid due to the plate, but the cushioning is not soft nor supportive. No way I would take this on a hike or anywhere long distance without having sore shoulders afterwards. Bought an Osprey pack for 30% cheaper that carried about as much as this one but was 3x as comfortable.
