 Disappointed that using it with my phone didn't work, but it's now the permanent laptop DAC., and probably can't be beat for price to performance ratio. For this use, it's a bargain.

Some of you may be aware that headphone jacks on high end smartphones are a dying breed and with LG recently leaving the market, there is now a severe lack of smartphones with quality DACS in them to choose from. LG was known for including the best headphone jacks found in any smartphone in their devices and now that they're gone, those looking to upgrade from their current smartphone has no real choices other than to get a dongle or move on to Bluetooth headphones. 

What would you guys recommend as the best USB type C dongle to use for those seeking a hi res listening experience on the go or at least something that can match the quality and output of LG's HiFi quad DAC?

My daily driver is a LG V40 and with it's HiFi quad DAC, it had no problem powering my Sennheiser HD6XX(basically HD600) headphones with it's high impedance. I'm looking to upgrade soon to a new phone but I know I probably can't get away from using a dongle so I'm hoping to find something at least comparable to my current audio experience. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

They fit me much more than Sony Z1R in both sound, look, and price of course. This year I decided to upgrade to Schiit Bifrost 2, and Topping A90.

Bought Fostex TH900MK2 + HPA4-BL from JP back in 2017. They fit me much more than Sony Z1R in both sound, look, and price of course. This year I decided to upgrade to Schiit Bifrost 2, and Topping A90. First impression was conflicting. HPA4BL was alot more fun to listen to, and it hid the treble peaks of the headphone. But it also hid the headphone capabilities all these years. The new DAC amp sound like everything just took a few steps back, and away from each other, which gave more depth and seperation in sound, warmer mid, but brought back piercing treble. Wasn't truly an upgrade till I used EQ from oratory1990 as reference and tweaked a little to match my preference. Now I can bid Fostex HPA4BL goodbye.

 I'm not getting any sort of hiss at all with these headphones. Uh, nor do I get it with things like Iems plugged in actually to the single ended quarter inch output. So this has a low of noise floor that I can set it to low gain which is all you need for Iems and give it some juice. and you do not hear any sort of hissing at least not with the Iems that I have tested it with Now of course this amplifier is also balanced

 There's really not much to say about this amplifier, simply because it's just a powerful transparent amplifier. There really don't seem to be any major faults with it. It's pretty competitive at its price for both how it measures and the amount of power it puts out, and I have no trouble recommending it to anyone who's looking at it. Yes, the A90 is a good amp

Topping A90 - REVIEW

I paired the A90 with FOCAL Clear Pro, Hifiman Sundara, and the Audeze LCD-2f and Topping A90 put each headphone through its paces and delivered nothing less than satisfying toe-tapping enjoyment.

The piece itself is rather unassuming in its appearance but what it lacks in eye-catching appeal it makes up for in sound and it does this in spades.

The A90 has all the connectivity you could need whether balanced or single ended, and can step in as a pre-amp if desired although this is not its strength but it’s nice as an option.

The Topping A90 might just

 I'm not going to denigrate my earlier aural happiness; it allows me to appreciate how far you can improve sound, and it's pretty flipping far! I thought I knew my favourite tracks intimately: I was in fact in the friend-zone. This A+D90 combo strips away layer-upon-layer of haze to reveal details you didn't even know existed. It all sounds lusher, crisper, hits harder, floats higher - everything is so.

 These two boxes sit there, performing incalculable audio-wizardry, and you, you get to hear your favourite artists like never before. Or perhaps as you should always have heard them: as the artist intended. My audiophile colleagues have stated this setup is reference class. Once again, no clue what the eff they are describing, all I know is it sounds bloody amazing! I've never heard of Topping before, but they are certainly top-tier in my book
