TaylorMade SIM2 MAX and MAX OS Irons Review by TGW

 I'm introducing the new SIM2 MAX and MAX-OS irons from TaylorMade.

 It's my intent to tell you what type of player is going to want to try each of these irons,

 how they'll help players shoot better scores.

 I got to test both these irons this week.

 I'll talk about my experiences with each of the clubs, and then I'll talk about some

 of the technology that goes into the new MAX and MAX-OS irons.

 Listed are the standard specifications for the irons, and you can see that both sets

 start at the four iron, run through the nine iron, and then can be available with up to

 I hit both irons with the KBS MT 85-gram steel shaft, and TaylorMade is using the Lampkin

 It's a rubber grip with a reminder as their standard stock grip, which I like the reminder,

 but remember, TGW.com can accommodate any of your custom requests.

 Both of these iron sets are for players who are looking to hit the ball high, far, and

 The difference I saw was that with the MAX-OS, I had hardly any misses to the right, so I

 felt like this club was a little bit more draw bias, and the MAX was a little bit more

 The biggest benefit with both these irons is just your shot consistency.

 You can tell that they are game improvement clubs in the fact that they're oversized.

 The MAX-OS is a little bit deeper in the cavity, but both of them really set up square, and

 the oversized look did not bother me one bit.

 I love the way the ball felt coming off the face, and I love the way both of the clubs

 And then we'll talk about the ball flight, and the ball flight was very similar with

 both of the clubs with just a couple of exceptions.

 I was swinging both of these right at about 86 miles an hour, not much variance in club

 I was getting 117 with the OS average ball speed versus 116, so again, very similar.

 Launch angles with both clubs were right at 18 degrees.

 The first variance I saw was in spin rate.

 The MAX-OS had a spin rate coming off of a 7-iron at 4,800 RPMs versus the SIM2 MAX

 MAX-OS was at 169 average for me, so a very nice distance club based on my club head speed.

 But then even the SIM2 MAX provided excellent distance with an average of 164.

 I would say that the MAX-OS is going to be a little bit more draw bias.

 The SIM2 MAX is going to be a little bit more neutral.

 Some of the new technology that TaylorMade is introducing into the SIM2 MAX and SIM2

 MAX-OS irons starts with the cap back design.

 This is in the cavity of the club and it's their use of multi-materials.

 They're using a stainless steel and very lightweight polymers to put place in the cavity.

 This saves weight, allows them to use weight in more ideal locations, improves feel and

 improves sound on the SIM2 line of irons.

 They actually approach the legal limit threshold of ball speed coming off of the iron's face.

 The SIM2 iron lines also have a new echo dampening design that greatly reduces harsh vibrations

 and that's what gives both of these irons that soft forged feel.

 TaylorMade is also continuing forward with their through slot speed pocket that's on

 It allows for face flexing, enhancing ball speed, especially on shots hit low on the

 And last but not least is the progressive inverted cone technology and this is the thickness

 of the face and it's a variable thickness.
