The 17 Best Headphone Brands - Spring 2022

Like the Arctis Pro + GameDAC, the Arctis Pro Wireless uses DTS Headphone:X for simulated surround sound. We've yet to hear a headset that can produce real surround sound, but the Pro Wireless' 40mm stereo drivers can at least generate a bigger-sounding audio field with processing and mixing. You won't see much, if any, tactical advantage since accurate imaging of audio sources as in front of or behind you is impossible, but it can still make the gaming experience more immersive.

You can also use the headset on its own over Bluetooth, by powering it on and holding the Bluetooth button down until it flashes. It can handle audio sent simultaneously both by the transmitter and the connected Bluetooth device, so you can keep your phone on hand while gaming. It also works standalone without the transmitter in Bluetooth mode, or wired with the included cable.

Yes' "Roundabout" also sounded very good on the Arctis Pro Wireless. The guitar plucks in the opening had plenty of string texture, and the dense mix left enough room for the vocals and drums when things really kicked in. The electric slap bass didn't sound particularly punchy, but it also didn't overwhelm the rest of the track or muddy the hits of the high-hat.

Nier: Automata also sounds excellent. The game's fantastic soundtrack has plenty of low-mid presence to give the instruments bombast, and higher frequency sound effects like laser blasts and audios cue to dodge come through cleanly. Dialogue can also be easily heard even in the middle of battle.

SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless Review

I currently use the Steelseries Arctis Pro (no game dac) and I also have some Sony WH-XM3s and Galaxy Buds for on-the-go listening. Budget is preferably under 150$, but I am willing to stretch it a bit if it means significant improvement to sound. I mostly listen to various genres of rock, 70s/80s pop and a little bit of rap.

 While they're very comfortable, they have one huge setback. They're not noise cancelling. I thought that noise cancelling ear muffs were industry standard, because of how important that is to immersing yourself in the game. I can hear my brother on the Xbox in the other room, my dogs barking downstairs, my mom listening to podcasts and my dad walk through the door

 The ear things are also pretty comfortable, but they have one huge flaw that ill address later... 4/5 for comfort  The transmitter is an incredibly unique aspect that I was especially drawn too

 But WORST of all, I can hear myself. The shape and size of the ear muffs makes it so that my voice reverberates from my cheeks back into the headset and into my ears. I can hear myself over the game sometimes. This is a really unfortunate setback and in my opinion, almost a deal breaker

A real review from a real normie

.. --------------------------------- So here I am now with an Arctis Pro Wireless headset - and it looks like that so far - MOST of my concerns were addressed:  In Build Quality: BETTER BUT NOT PERFECT - The top piece of the headset is completely metal - which is a welcome change as I feel metal is more durable. It was also great to see the ear cup panels are now magnetic - making it much easier to swap batteries without having to take the headset off (and fumbling around in the middle of some intense gaming)! Unfortunately, the swivels for each earcup are STILL PLASTIC once again

.the swivels have been completely redesigned - so hopefully this new design will last longer and be more durable. Only time will tell.

  Sound Quality: BETTER BUT NOT THE BEST IT COULD BE - I would say that I agree the sound quality in general has been a little improved, HOWEVER the rest of the reviews on Amazon here are indeed telling the truth - there is a slight "HUM" sound that happens when you're wearing the headphones and they are powered on and you are not playing any sound. HOWEVER AGAIN, the noise canceling capabilities are significantly improved as other people talking around me were noticeably muffled. To be honest im not doubting the other amazon reviews but I think that the "HUM" is more noticeable only because of how much more Noise-canceling these headphones are. If you have zero hum tolerance than I would stay clear of these

  Price: LESS IS ALWAYS BETTER OF COURSE - thats all i'll say.  Overall I'm happy with the purchase and I think 4 stars is justified. Will post updates later on.

SteelSeries Wireless Headsets - THEN versus NOW

  Hardware Design: -1star Even with the issues of the microphone above, I'd still mostly contentedly continue to use this headset, mainly for its ease-of-use, had it not been the recent breakage, as of yesterday 01/16/2022. I got this on July 19, 2019, so they lasted me 912 days, 2 years 5 months 28 days, so roughly 2.5 years. Had these been cheaper by $100, I'd be ok with that

  Due to the above experience that I still consider highly preventable if the design around the earphone support was more secured, reinforced, and possibly double or even triple ensured to not have the earphone ever get loose, I'm now watching for structural sturdiness in the next gaming headset. At this point, high on my list is Logitech G PRO X Wireless Gaming Headset with Blue Voice. While it's missing the DAC battery swap out, it does have other features that I like, and out of most other wireless headsets, its design looks sturdy and resilient against earphone coming off loose due to chafing/grinding and breaking of cheap or low-quality plastic. There are other gaming headsets that I wouldn't even consider because their design looks very prone to earphones eventually coming off, just like with this Arctis Pro Wireless one

 Even tinkering with SteelSeries GG driver software settings, I couldn't completely get rid of it. With the settings, I got to a better balance between Voice and App sounds, increasing my Voice output instead of App. So out-of-the-box, microphone recordings sounded too quiet compared to App/other sounds. So settings tinkering is required to get it more balanced

 The earphone came loose because the metallic hinge that connects to the left earphone kept grinding and chafing against the weak plastic and eventually completely broke off a piece, coming undone, as in the picture provided. I'm in software, so I'm not a hardware engineer, but even I could see that them adding a metallic washer to protect the rest of the plastic could have gone a long way in preventing this sort of damage.  Due to the above experience that I still consider highly preventable if the design around the earphone support was more secured, reinforced, and possibly double or even triple ensured to not have the earphone ever get loose, I'm now watching for structural sturdiness in the next gaming headset. Best ease-of-use, solid sound, poor microphone, and structural weakness on earphone hinges

  Hands down one of the best features of this headset is having 2 batteries. I would say each battery nets you between 7-10 hours of battery life depending on the usage. Swapping batteries is incredibly easy and takes about 10 seconds due to the magnetic coverings on the cans. Another great feature of this headset
