Sony SRS-XB13 vs KEF LSX

The Sony is smaller and is more likely to fit in a standard-size cup holder. This small Bluetooth speaker has a built-in carrying strap that's longer than that of the Ultimate Ears, making it easy to attach to your bag or somewhere in your cart. List is $1,300 but I picked up a pair last year around this same time for just over $700 (from MusicDirect I think). Well worth it for sound and functionality, especially if streaming is your priority. These plus your turntable (and preamp if needed) is all you need for a decent sized space.

First impressions coming from the KEF LSX Wireless is the volume that they produce. Not literally the sound volume, but the way they fill up a room with the depth of the sound they produce. Even at low volume they give a warm and deep feel to their sound. I listened to them without the sub, and they have a good amount of natural bass, however the Subwoofer compliments everything quite well

The AirPlay connectivity is very unreliable, but that's mostly Apple's fault (my 10+ year-old Squeezebox gear works better and more reliably than that!). I also ended up using the cable to connect the two speakers, because I had some connection drops when using the wireless mode. Out of the box, they sound really boomy, loud and muddy: make sure you use the remote control app to change the settings, otherwise you will be disappointed by the sound. The bad: I dropped the remote control on the floor and it now refuses to work, so I have to use the app to turn it on/off

You can get fuller-sounding audio in a relatively portable design, but it’ll cost more. If you're willing to spend $150, the Marshall Emberton delivers the best sound quality for the size. For $100, meanwhile, there's the Sony SRS-XB23, which is a nice step up in terms of price and performance from the XB-13, while for far less, we like the $40 JBL Go 3.

If you want any kind of imaging at all, you need something smaller to give you a better near field experience. Even without the walls, you'd need to sit back pretty far to get the right imaging for those speakers. I bet even $100 edifiers would sound better.

I really wanted to love these - for their size and price point they have a great soundstage/imaging and I'm not sure you can do much better given the constraints as far as sound goes. A little on the bass-heavy side for me and a little warm/colored but really for their size they are quite impressive. However, unfortunately the app/connectivity issues were a real dealbreaker. I spent hours debugging/reconnecting/going back and forth with KEF support trying to figure out why the speakers would not reconnect after randomly losing Wi-Fi connection

As of this writing, XB-13 is $48, while Go 3 is $49.99. Regardless of any sale price or discounts, I would still purchase the XB-13 over the Go 3.

By all means, this system is no headturner. But knowing how much we enjoyed listening to music on this system back then together it was very nice!

The build is not the rugged type like my JBL Clip 3, so I bought a silicone cover ($12). I like to have that extra protection just in case. The shape of the device is not bad, I like that it can stand on its own and I can hang it because of the strap. I like the removeable strap, and how it comes with the same color as the speaker

I bought them for listening to music and as a better option than a sound bar for my tv. The remote has to be the worst designed thing I have ever used. The remote has red lettering on black, the buttons are flush and it seems to be just an afterthought.

It's fine when I'm using it to play music from Spotify, but when I try to use it for a phone call or play a movie through my PC (with all volume settings maxed out on the PC, meaning windows volume, app volume, and media player volume) it's often not loud enough to hear what people are saying.

Maybe 900sq. Ft. I am fully satisfied at 80-90% volume. The only thing I may add is a small sub for those times I want to dork out to some edm
