SHIMANO SLX DC LONG TERM REVIEW! Is it worth the money?

For example, a shimano slx dc (180$) has 5 bearings but I'll be wayyyyy smoother that one of those lasting reels you see on amazon with 15 bearings (those are like 30-50$). The quality and placement of the bearings is what matters most. However, on the lower end reels (like this uglystick one) the difference in ball bearings can matter a lot.

Just like the title, looking at picking one of the ugly Stik Elite Baitcast combos on sale but found that it only had 3 bearings. I have an entry level lews laser mg Baitcast Combo and I believe it has 8 bearings? How is there such a difference? Do the amount of bearings really make a difference?

 If I had any cons about the reel it would be the drag. I wish Shimano would beef up their drag To at least 18 to 20 pounds drag. With that said I would still give it an A —

 But if blind folded I bet couldnt tell which was which casts same . Actually i find i get a little more cast distance with this than i did with the 250$ version

I’m new to the sport (I’ve done a decent amount of saltwater fishing when I was younger) and will be getting my first rod and reel in the coming month. 

I was wondering what I should be shooting for in terms of length/action/power for catching the different species of trout?

I was considering getting a ~7ft, medium power, fast action spinning rod/reel. I’ve seen a lot of people with light/ultra light setups for fishing in rivers/creeks for brook trout, but I wanted a more all-around rod in case I wanted to target things like landlocked salmon/smallmouth bass as well. I hope this is the right place to ask.

Trout setup

The simple truth is a decent performing reel is 100 U.S or higher. Do not fall for the bullshit low-cost reels no matter how many people say they are good. A reel under 100 likely has no or horrible braking and performance

 Musky or big pike a 300 size or larger is the normal reel size. The Curado 300 is a good all-around option. At a mid-range price.

I’ve never used a baitcaster, mainly because I mostly fish walleye and smallies in Northern Ontario so spinning set ups seem to do fine. 

90% of the time, I use smaller lures, like 1/4 oz jigs tipped with leeches or crawlers, smaller crankbaits, Mepps, and lightly weighed wacky rigs. I’ll troll crawler harnesses too. 

I’m never targeting fish over about 12 lbs, and most are 2-6 lbs.

Is a baitcaster even really worth it?

If so, any recommendations? I don’t want cheap stuff but I’m not willing to go super high end either.

Looking to try out a baitcaster but…

 If you use mono monofilament fluorocarbon braid, you know different purposes for different baits, but this is an overall go-to setup. The abby, garcia revox is a versatile reel for many different baits moving baits texas rig stuff, jigs, chatterbaits topwater and especially paired with the seven foot medium heavy, fast action vendetta. It'S a really really good setup. We'Re gon na cast the abba garcia revo x right now and see what it looks like

 I absolutely love that we're gon na cast it out again. There we go and then bring it back over here and we're gon na retrieve it once again. So let's do start stops again pushing the spinner bait. Stop it pushing chatter bait

Is the ABU GARCIA REVO SX Baitcaster WORTH IT?

 Spend the extra $50 and get the stx or I highly recommended the inshore even though I fish fresh water this is a great choice. AVOID the magnetic/centrifugal braking system.

Move up to the stx

 I like the 6ft length for my rod as I sometimes fish in tight spaces, but between 6-7 ft should be good. St. Croix is the best for rods IMO and reels from Abu Garcia, Daiwa, and Shimano are generally quite nice and reliable.

I'm more of a baitcaster aficionado and have set ups for almost any presentation but I recently tried the drop shot rig and I seem to have more luck and it makes me want to try more finesse presentations.

So which rod would be ideal? How long? Which action and all that. Reel size would be helpful as well.

Which specs for all around Bass fishing, rod and spinning reel set up should I get?

Curado is a solid starting point. Can handle some big fish well. They make the Tranx as well for big fish but a Curado will do fine for bass, pike, striper in the salt here in Maine, etc.   Abu Garcia makes a revo toro intended for big fish as well that I see a lot
