Best Baitcasting Reel EVER or Overhyped? Shimano Curado DC Reel Review

Awesome reel. I have it three stars on light weight because that it is not. However I still have three stars because it’s not supposed to be. Now don’t think it’s gonna feel like having a huge rock on your pole but the little extra weight is WELL worth having that breaking system inside

 I'm gonna take this jig, make a cast. Threw that thing on our 25 yards. No issues. Super smooth, really comfortable in the hand

 one is going to be the least amount of resistance, two is gonna be your braid setting. If you're throwing braids or mono, this is the setting you want to be on, Three is gonna be your fluorocarbon setting, and four that is your most breaking system that's going to be skipping. that's going to be casting light baits into the wind, so it's very easy. one through four depending on what your reel is, what your reel is spooled with, and the baits you're throwing

 So I'm going to spool these up I'm gonna show you guys some close-up shots of some of the key features. I'm gonna go make some casts and you guys keep an ear out for that. That notorious that DC Sound Let's go make some casts. Alright guys! I Spool up this first DC This Corrado DC with 65 pound max Quatro Braid I Tied on a frog and paired that up with the X Pride 7/3 extra-heavy This is a fantastic frog rod

 Conditions: skipping light baits, casting live baits in the low end, that's gonna be your setting. So let's start with 4. I'm gonna take this jig, make a cast. Threw that thing on our 25 yards

Shimano Curado 150 DC : An In-Depth Look

 That’s game over with any other baitcaster I’ve owned. The only negative I have is that the Curado DC 150 lettering came off after about 3 uses. Like it was water color paint or something cheap. Nobody’s perfect so I give it a 5 star since I’ve never caught a fish by how cool my reel looked

 However, I easily pulled out the backlash. I also hit some tall weeds accidentally on a cast and was impressed that I was able to easily get that backlash out also. That’s game over with any other baitcaster I’ve owned. The only negative I have is that the Curado DC 150 lettering came off after about 3 uses

I’ve had several low profile baitcasters, but this is my favorite performing yet. Super easy to adjust the spool brake by selecting settings 1 - 4. The spool tensioner is similarly easy to adjust because it doesn’t have to be as exact for each lure like with other baitcasters. I adjusted mine one time and just change the brake settings depending on how heavy/arrow dynamic a lure is

 I threw out a lure and let it hit without thumbing the spool to see the result. Most fisherman would tell You that line is done and you are cutting it off spool because it’s so backlashed if you do this. However, I easily pulled out the backlash. Is the curado dc worth it over the slx dc? I've heard the only major difference is the gears and I'm not sure that reeling a bit smoother can justify the price difference. 2. Is there any major reason to pick the dobyns fury over the st Croix bass x or vice versa?

 That when I learned the drag on this reel at 11 pounds suck!!!!. At $249.00 it might make a high priced crappie rig. If Shimano ever makes an upgraded drag too 15 -17 pounds let me know

If you’re looking for an all around combo go for something around 7’ medium heavy power fast action. Dobyns fury, fenwick HMG, st Croix bass X, are all strongly recommended here. Those may be a little above your price range but they are worth it

Probably gonna buy a Shimano SLX DC

I go mid tier, I have the St. Croix bass x and a lews KVD reel. Not exactly cheap but not too expensive to piss the wife off. But the sensitivity on that rod far exceeds my Berkeley cherrywood by a long shot

Is expensive gear really that much better than my $30 Zebco spinning rod?

Looking at reels, I suggest the 60-80 (US) dollar range. Rods to check out include St. Croix Bass X, Daiwa Aird X, Dobyns Fury, and the Fenwick HMG or Eagle.

My wife and I used to fish a lot as children and we have been trying to get back into it. 

I've spent hours trying to inform myself properly on rod lengths, reel types, lure types, line strength, 1 piece vs 2 piece rods ect. The depth of the sport is just quite overwhelming. 

What I would like is maybe a good starting point. 

I've seen a lot of praise and a lot of bashing on the Ugly Stik GX2 which kind of brings up red flags for me. 

I did see some great reviews for the Pflueger President but even then they have so many different models it's hard to figure out which one to chose. Then there is the problem of pairing it with the right rod. 7 foot, 6.6, 1 piece or 2. I hear St-Croix are good rods but I'm not exactly sure what would be best. 

Budget wise, I have some leeway. I don't want to go too crazy and spend 1500 on a reel but a couple hundred is fine. 

I live in Quebec ( just west of Montreal ) so I am surrounded by abundant rivers and lakes. I do not own a boat yet so most of my fishing would be done from shore / docks and occasionally from a kayak or small row boat. 

The rivers and lakes around me have a lot of bass, trout, perch, walleye and pike. 

I know it's asking a lot of information and it is subjective to people's experience but any tips on the rod/reel or even lures for my kind of fishing would be greatly appreciated by both my wife and I.

Looking for advice on fishing gear for a 33 year old beginner.

I second stepping up to the SLX XT... as for the rod, you can't go wrong with a St Croix Mojo Bass rod

 Unless you just throw small crankbaits, I would definitely go with at least the 7'1 medium heavy rod moderate rod (this is for primarily crankbaits) and if you throw deep divers at all I would go with 7'6 medium heavy moderate fast rod.

My question for you all is: what rod suggestions for you all have for a Crankbait rod? I've read a medium taper or less is critical for hook sets and I've read different things about length (but it seems 7' is standard). A coworker recommended a Carrot Stick pro rod but I'm not sure I want to spend 120+ on the rod.

Shimano SLX... And which rod?

 St Croix is awesome though and went back to Bass Pro and they gave me 120$ store credit because i had the receipt. Got a mojo bass dock sniper and it snapped casting a jig too. Got a store credit since i had the receipt and now i have a mojo spinning and it’s still doing great. Rods feel great in the hand but i feel like some rods are cheaply made

Bought this rod expecting a well built product. What I got was a rod that snapped 4 inches off the tip when I cast it with a Texas rigged small rage tail! I was embarrassed to have this junk in my boat! Cabela's quickly gave my money back. Their customer service is top notch and they gave me no hassles in returning this tooth pick back to them. The rod was light and sensitive to use, I wish it would have been more dependable than breaking on the first cast! I was going to buy one as a gift for a friend before I used the one that broke
