 There is no smaller lever for a rim brake option. The main difference between ultegra and dura ace level levers just comes down to construction. The higher tier group sets get a carbon fiber, reinforced plastic body and levers, whereas with 105 you get a glass fiber, reinforced plastic body and alloy beavers. So it's a bit heavier overall

 However, it's a measurable thing, it's what shimadu provides. It gives the best way to compare ultegra to jury race to 105 and so on. So it's rrp pricing throughout now we're going to start off with the shifters or, if you prefer, shimano's lingo, the dual control shifters and these outwardly are very, very similar to both ultegra and duress. All three of these feature, the new shifter style, with ever so slightly flattened, tops and a textured grip on the top of the hoods

 If you want an utterly dependable workhorse of a group set that has nearly all the performance of ultegro duress, 105 r7000 in any of its variants comes highly recommended.  It'S an 11 speed group set, which is only available in double variance but is available in both disc and rim brake options.  Is there any difference in terms of durability and long-term reliability with one of five versus ultegra and druids? In my experience, no, i don't see you getting any less durability with 105 compared to the more expensive group sets what you're really gaining from a more expensive group set. It'S better quality materials which contribute to a lower weight and slightly more refined shift quality. But in terms of durability, long-term reliability, i don't think you're getting any less for your money, so there we go then shimano's 105 group set is arguably hard to beat unless you're a weight, weenie you're into your margin of gains. You must have the same as a pros ride or you want the absolute pinnacle of technology

 And then you get all the same ramps on the cassette which ensures the chain moves smoothly across the cassette. It'S such a smooth, quiet, efficient, shifting group set. You can change it under load in any situation. Cross-Chaining

Is Shimano 105 all the groupset you really need?

It’s not just the 2000 euro you want to spend (which is a lot of money, but not a lot of budget for a TT bike), you will need a proper bike fit to make good use of the aerodynamics. And it won’t save you from buying another bike for your day to day training.

First Bike - Looking for suggestions / first triathlon

 9000 was an improvement, but 9100 is king. R8000 Ultegra and R7000 105 were the 'trickle down' and just as good with slightly less fancy materials and a few extra grams. I really don't think there is room anymore for high end mechanical shifting unless a few picky pro riders demand it.

My opinion is that the current 105 has nicer shifting than Dura Ace from ten years go. 7900 wasn't great. 9000 was an improvement, but 9100 is king. R8000 Ultegra and R7000 105 were the 'trickle down' and just as good with slightly less fancy materials and a few extra grams

Hey, great to hear that you are looking to buy a road bike! I think road riding is the most fun type of riding. As for the bike, in my opinion it is most important to get a bike with a good quality frame that fits you well. Parts such as the groupset or the wheels are not the most important, even though many people will look at these parts first when they want to buy a new bike.

 I don't think it is neccesary to get a bike with an expensive Di2 groupset, mechanical works just fine as well. The 105 mechanical groupset is also of very good quality, I had it on my previous bike and I experienced no problems with it at all. Shifting is good, the only reason why it is cheaper than mechanical Ultegra or Dura Ace is because of the weight.

I've been obsessively shopping for my first completely unnecessary proper road bike purchase. Pretty much confused and looking for the support of the online mob - LBS are in the area but I don't really enjoy the experience, in the main feel a lack of interest unless your a cashed up known rider looking to spend $10k+ etc plus they don't carry stock anyway. 

Background: I'm 38 and have been into endurance running for last 10 years branching from trail to the odd marathon and 100km event. I played around with MTB for a while but I lack the technical ability/courage to fully enjoy the down, relatively I crush the climbs. 

Then last winter I splurged out on a Kickr Core for cross training and got myself a second-hand undersized aluminium BMC Teammachine. That was ok, interest probably  dropped off in the end due to the excessive sweat challenges! When summer rolled around I've found myself on the road and loving it (except for working with/against the local traffic)... time will tell if that is maintained but the wallet is open.

I'm 183cm (6ft) / 84cm inseam (33") and very lightweight, 66kg (145)

I live in a valley and an average weekend ride being 60-80km with 1,000-1,300m (4000ft) elevation gain on rolling country roads (only fair quality and condition). Given my running this wouly likely increase with my ability. I don't see club rides (I never group run) or races in my future, or cross over to gravel (my MTB is a Scott Spark so I have that XC capability)... I just want a comfortable and capable road companion

I'd initially corned myself into the "endurance" bike market, but you read the odd commentary that the "race" road bikes are being more comfortable and capable as an all-round bike. Plus they look a whole lot better for your coin. Just concerned the 'fair quality' country roads may find them out a bit

I set out with the goal of going carbon and getting onto disc brakes, I'm not a massive fan of the rim brakes after coming from MTB. Groupset probably can only justify mechanical but if I did find a buy with Di2 I'm almost future-proofed?

If I was going to spend say $5k AUD new/used/runout initially I was keen to get something hot that wasn't necessarily a Giant... maybe a Specialized or European brand that looks every bit its cost and at the very least will look hot on the wall!

Yet at this stage after many U turns I'm looking down the barrel of the Giant Defy models. Value speaks volumes, so do the reviews, and the metallic/black bikes look fine, I just hate the two toned paint jobs in green and oranges! Reminds me of my first hardtail MTB. I was all over a 2021 Giant Defy Advanced Pro 0 (used) at $5k but after reading up on sizing the Large size looked like it might be just a bridge too far for me, and I cant test it as it is out of state.

Throwing that out the window... hit me with suggestions? are you a similar rider, what do you ride?

First Real Road Bike

I have a 2017 bianchi aluminium road bike (endurance model) I would actually love to do it with that bike. I love the bike. It is firmly build and has basic technology (rim brakes, cables outside the drone, Shimano 105). With a little bit adjusting, and packing very light, I think I could manage all my luggage on it (front fork bags, handle bar bag, top tube bag and saddle bag)

Novara was a REI brand they are solid and good value. This does have 10 speed Shimano 105 which is a good drivetrain at this price. Not too old aluminium frame and carbon fork from a decent brand like Novara is also good for the price, I found it as a 2009 model on Google.   

Do you think this is a decent deal?

 So that's the complete r 9200 group set first impressions. Are that it's incredibly good at what it does the ergonomics seem excellent. The shifting is outstanding as ever there's plenty of scope to customize things, and the braking is really really good. If i have one more emotional reaction to this group set, it's that i'm a little bit disappointed that it's not more radical in some way, certainly on the aesthetic front, for example, it is not in any way bold

 That is most noticeable because it is just wow fast when you press that button right. Let'S talk about individual components of this group set believers are in many ways the most visually striking part of the group set and the biggest departure from previous designs. Previous shimano group sets had a fully exposed brake cleaver, but on the new design, everything above the pivot is hidden and there's a sort of shroud over the front of the lever. It looks more aerodynamic

 Although shimano has not embraced smaller cogs, they have tweaked things on the gearing slightly, and so the jumps between the gears are slightly different in the middle of the cassette. Otherwise, though the ranges are pretty standard, a typical setup for a ratio rider might be a 52 36 on the front and then an 11 to 30 at the back. All the new cassettes are compatible with existing 11 speed free hubs, but, as i mentioned before, they are also compatible with the new freehub that currently only appears on the very newest shimano wheels. Shimano says, incidentally, that an 11 to 30 cassette weighs 223 grams [ Music ] shimano has revamped the brake calipers for r 9200

 I am going to get into the specifics of every component on this bike, but before i do that, let's talk about what it's like to ride. Shimano set us up with this dogmath, which is pinnarello's latest greatest tour de france level, pro bike, and it's a pretty incredible machine and spoiler alert. While we haven't had this long enough to give a full review of dua race. Yet it's a pretty incredible group set
