 It evolves it mutates and after a couple of sessions of pandemic, you start to develop a real problem, and the problem here is expertise in the fact that if you keep playing pandemic with different groups of people, you will get better at it, whereas the people you Keep playing with well, they won't because they'll be new to the game and that's fine, but it's very difficult to not allow your expertise of the game to influence the way that the games pan out. You start to get an appreciation for the systems in the game, and you know what to do and they don't know what to do and you get into a situation where effectively you have become the leader, so you're trying to introduce people into these games and you're. Trying to be like which players game, it's great fun, it's collaborative, but it stops being collaborative and it starts being you telling everyone what to do. You'Ve got to move here

Pandemic Board Game Review 🤔 Should You Buy

 When he goes around treating diseases for one action, he can take off all the cubes. The scientist only needs four cards secure disease. The operations expert can build more of these research stations around the area. Everybody can build them, but they have to use a card

 I'M not they don't really fit in the board too well. This has been fixed by the expansion, but I mean it doesn't really cause too many problems. It just seems odd that they're so giant, but players gon na be moving these pawns around in the board. Basically, a player of stern works like this

On your turn, you have four actions with those actions you can move from space to space following the red lines, moving around the board, if you're in a spot of city, where there is infection, you can use an action to get rid of cubes in that city. For each action you get rid of one cube, you can fly around from city to city as long as you have the appropriate card

 You can only have seven cards in your hand and the card deck once it runs out. You lose the game. Still doesn't sound that difficult, but there's a problem, each turn you're. Turning over a certain number of these cards up here, which show where more cubes will be added to the game, whatever city, it shows

  Next is the main purpose of this expansion, the lab board and sequence cards. This introduces a new way to cure diseases by maneuvering and manipulating the disease cubes within the lab (the lab board) instead of using just 5 cards of the same color to discard at a research station. I won't get into the details of how this works as the instructions span over 2 to 3 pages but just search for Pandemic In the Lab rules and you can review for yourself or just search YouTube and you can see the Gen Con review video. I do enjoy curing diseases this way as it adds more of a thematic approach and makes it more engaging while playing vs

 just discarding 5 cards. My experience playing this with only 2 players may contribute more to this as we find it difficult to cure diseases the original way since the hand limit is 7 and either of us can only go for one disease at a time and usually when we lose it's because we ran out of cards. Also when you play using the lab board, you only cure diseases this way, you don't have the option to use this or play 5 cards, I confirmed this with a designer.  Lastly, the components

 There were also some that were scratched on the side and on the bottom side the "Eradicated" symbol was scratched and faded. The ones that did have the lids still glued were very uneven and lopsided when flipping them over to show the eradicated side. This might not matter to some of you but I was just disappointed of this quality as previous games and expansions have always had no issues with quality components. I am not the only one that received vials in this condition as others on BGG site also mention this

Great Expansion with One Not so Great Component

We do actually love the new expansion pack but I refuse to give it 5 stars when the directions reference pieces that do not come with it or the original game. There are even spaces in the box for the petri dishes that do not even come with it. We spent a good 20 minutes searching for them and then blaming each other for losing pieces already only to find out that they don't even come with it. The directions also mention 24 purple cubes

In terms of difficulty, the game has about 30 levels of difficulty you can scale yourself by adding scenarios, adversaries, etc. The base level is not a huge challenge, but will be tough for a few plays while you learn how the invaders work how to counter them. So in that sense, I wouldn't call it a "hard" game - you will win 100% of the time on level 0 after your initial learning curve, but there are few players in the world who can win on max level.

In terms of rules complexity, it's a heavy game. "Hard" to learn for sure. MTG is a good preparation for it in terms of style, so you'd probably be fine, but I would not recommend it for anyone without similar gaming experience. They will most likely be overwhelmed and have a bad time that lasts several hours

Hello everyone! I have been looking a lot at some more co-op games since Magic the Gathering gives me my competitive fix. I have only previously played Arkham Horror the card game and loved it, but, I'm still very new to board games in general. I have been watching and reading about spirit island and the game looks beautiful and so fun, however I am a little worried about the difficulty of the game. Especially since if I decided to play co-op with my partner, it would be her first game.  
Or, would playing a solo game be enough background information to help her through?   


The other game I was looking at was Aeon's end, as I love deck builders and that seems much easier, especially since she hasn't had any experience with these types of games.

Is spirit island too hard for one of your first co-op/solo games?

Looking for opinions on my next purchase as we dive into this hobby. Games will 99% of the time be played at two player with my wife. 

 The bottom row of cards is nearly ignored. The moment the cards are laid out  you can often see 2 or 3 of the top row of cards that will never be purchased as they cost 13-14 gems rather than the 7-10 of others, etc. So, I enjoy the overall style of the game,  it it’s actual design feels lacklustre. 

I’d say we are looking for something just a bit heavier than the splendors/carcassonne but id really like something that still plays in under an hour, or even better, 45 minutes.

Daily Discussion and Game Recommendations Thread (February 14, 2021)

Also - are you shuffling and randomly distributing the characters at the beginning of the game? This way every game becomes a new challenge on how your given characters can work together to solve the game.

* When playing the Base game with 2 Players and 2 Roles with 4 (then 6) Epidemic Cards, the Medic is OP; as a result, I refuse to use the Medic's Second Ability.  

* We played until we Eradicated of all the Diseases, not until we merely had all Cures. I do not understand why the game only plays until you have all Cures. The Disease is still left on the Board. It was more fun and realistic to play until all four Diseases had been Eradicated (after we won the normal way, we went from 4 to 6 Epidemic Cards). Just using 6 the entire time would have been a bit harder but still easy and sub-1-hour gameplay. Note: In order to achieve this, we removed the 'empty Deck' Rule, and simply reshuffled the entire Deck and started from the top again (as is common in most Card games). This applies to both Decks. If you play with the standard Rules, this is pretty much impossible, since you will run out of Cards and lose the game. (The game we played was still quite easy even for Eradication, so I will see how to make it harder next time.)  

* It was too easy/fast with the Medic under the Rules for the standard Victory Conditions of all Cures. We had all Cures after around 40 minutes. But, playing until all Diseases were Eradicated took 1.5-2 hours, and was more difficult and a bit more fun. Note: It is almost impossible to Eradicate all Diseases without the Medic. Note: I have not yet play-tested this with other setups (such as 1 player, 3 Roles or 2 players, 4 Roles).  

* Cure and Eradication are not the same things, and you cannot Eradicate a Disease until you have first Cured it.   

* You may use the Role Ability Actions as many times as you are able to during your Turn, unless the Card states otherwise (meaning, not just once per Turn unless it states such).  

* We removed the sub-Rule (?): 'Move a Research Station from anywhere on the Board to anywhere else on the Board if you have the Government Fund Event Card, and there are no more Research Stations out of play for you to use'. This occurred once when we had all Research Stations already in play, so we simply rejected the card. (Purely for realism reasons: it makes little sense to be able to move an entire building across the globe, though it's a bit more realistic if the Station is small and mobile. It's also a bit harder this way if you play to Disease Eradication Victory Conditions.)  

* To make this game mode even harder (if you want to play it), you can keep the Epidemic Cards in the game, and rotate them through the Deck, so that all 6 are always in-game, and are never removed. However, in this case, I think a constant 6 is impossible, so try 3 or 4. This is key for end-game, as we found that nothing was really happening, otherwise (other than constantly running after the final Disease Cubes). Note: There are other ways to make this sub-game mode easier or harder, of course. Also, there are other possible mechanisms to put in place, not to mention the addition of Expansions.  


I will report back at a later date with any updates I have (in terms of Rules, mechanics, and additions). For example, I am currently working on a difficult Solo version, along with custom 3D Components for the game.

<li><p>We played until we Eradicated of all the Diseases, not until we merely had all Cures. I do not understand why the game only plays until you have all Cures. The Disease is still left on the Board. It was more fun and realistic to play until all four Diseases had been Eradicated (after we won the normal way, we went from 4 to 6 Epidemic Cards). Just using 6 the entire time would have been a bit harder but still easy and sub-1-hour gameplay. Note: In order to achieve this, we removed the &#39;empty Deck&#39; Rule, and simply reshuffled the entire Deck and started from the top again (as is common in most Card games). This applies to both Decks. If you play with the standard Rules, this is pretty much impossible, since you will run out of Cards and lose the game. (The game we played was still quite easy even for Eradication, so I will see how to make it harder next time.)  </p></li>
<li><p>It was too easy/fast with the Medic under the Rules for the standard Victory Conditions of all Cures. We had all Cures after around 40 minutes. But, playing until all Diseases were Eradicated took 1.5-2 hours, and was more difficult and a bit more fun. Note: It is almost impossible to Eradicate all Diseases without the Medic. Note: I have not yet play-tested this with other setups (such as 1 player, 3 Roles or 2 players, 4 Roles).  </p></li>
<li><p>Cure and Eradication are not the same things, and you cannot Eradicate a Disease until you have first Cured it.   </p></li>
<li><p>You may use the Role Ability Actions as many times as you are able to during your Turn, unless the Card states otherwise (meaning, not just once per Turn unless it states such).  </p></li>
<li><p>We removed the sub-Rule (?): &#39;Move a Research Station from anywhere on the Board to anywhere else on the Board if you have the Government Fund Event Card, and there are no more Research Stations out of play for you to use&#39;. This occurred once when we had all Research Stations already in play, so we simply rejected the card. (Purely for realism reasons: it makes little sense to be able to move an entire building across the globe, though it&#39;s a bit more realistic if the Station is small and mobile. It&#39;s also a bit harder this way if you play to Disease Eradication Victory Conditions.)  </p></li>
<li><p>To make this game mode even harder (if you want to play it), you can keep the Epidemic Cards in the game, and rotate them through the Deck, so that all 6 are always in-game, and are never removed. However, in this case, I think a constant 6 is impossible, so try 3 or 4. This is key for end-game, as we found that nothing was really happening, otherwise (other than constantly running after the final Disease Cubes). Note: There are other ways to make this sub-game mode easier or harder, of course. Also, there are other possible mechanisms to put in place, not to mention the addition of Expansions.  </p></li>
</ul>

<p>I will report back at a later date with any updates I have (in terms of Rules, mechanics, and additions). For example, I am currently working on a difficult Solo version, along with custom 3D Components for the game.</p>

Just Played Pandemic for the First Time: New Favourite! Amazing Game... But, a Few Notes:

I recently moved and took it as an opportunity to redo all of the shelving in my game room/office - in my old place I had a dedicated game room with a table (RIP) and housed my collection on some decade+ old bookcases from Staples + a KALLAX. I was getting bored of the KALLAX (sorry KALLAX, you're still great) and wanted something different so I painstakingly assembled a crapton of IKEA EKET shelves and I'm really digging the results!

I just picked up Pandemic yesterday from Target and played it once. I enjoyed it, although it hits a little close to home.

Target is running a deal for 25% off toys and board games are included. Plus 10% off if you use Target Circle.

Trying to decide if should get:
Splendor 
Catan 
Horrified
7 Wonders
7 wonders duel

I believe that 7 wonders and catan are 3+ players so maybe not those since there are only 2 adults in our house. Honestly I mostly just play the games by myself since we have 2 little kids, so the only time to play is after they are asleep and by then one of us is usually tired and goes to bed. But can talk her into playing the occasional game from time to time. Been collecting games a lot recently and can’t wait for our friends to get the vaccine so we can have game nights again.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
