Not only is it a massive 49 inches diagonally, but it also carries a 1000R curve, the most dramatic curve offered on a gaming monitor today. From a 2-3-feet distance, this panel will fill your view. It&rsquo;s like having two 27-inch, 1440p monitors in one. You'll need nearly 4 feet of desk width and 17 inches of depth to accommodate it, but if you do, you&rsquo;ll enjoy a wraparound gaming environment without image distortion. Are you looking for a smaller ultrawide? The Acer Predator X38 is also excellent. 
Testing of the 49-Inch Odyssey G9 revealed excellent contrast (2,152.9:1 after calibration), which climbed to 58,881.7:1 when it came to HDR testing. This is a bright monitor with a sharp picture and accurate DCI-P3 and sRGB color. 
At this price, though, we&rsquo;d expect a little more. For example, the monitor doesn&rsquo;t offer any blur reduction. However, we typically opt for Adaptive-Sync over motion blur reduction, and motion blur shouldn&rsquo;t be an issue if you have a powerful enough graphics card. You also don&rsquo;t get any speakers or, oddly, a framerate counter. But with solid image quality and a whole lot of speed for an ultrawide, some sacrifices are worth making.

This display has nearly 90 percent of the pixel count of a 4k monitor, but a far higher refresh rate than any 4k display on the market today. I'Ve been saying over the last couple of years that monitors are just boring and no one brings anything new to the table and then this arrived meet the samsung odyssey, neo g9. So first things. First, this one's going to be a bit of a challenge to film. Just because of its size, i mean it's 49 inch diagonal measurement

I said Monitors suck now... then this showed up...

  -Incredible response time for an LCD panel.  -Dual 2560x1440 at 240hz is mind boggling, and the fact that most games will always be under 240hz, makes sure you don't even have to worry about vsync being on, as you'll be under 240 FPS the vast majority of the time.  THE BAD:  -THe HDR mode tanks contrast ratio, because it only has 10 local dimming zones.  -The color gamut, while noticeably wider than sRGB on the HDR mode, is not quite where it should be for a quantum dot panel, but at least it is better than sRGB

 It is a heavy monitor. 35lb if you're putting it on a monitor arm, there are only a few options that can support it. Do your research. This thing takes a LOT of room, so make sure you have a large enough desk to support it

Great monitor with some caveats

Before the G9 I had the OG Alienware 34" (still have that actually, it's a solid monitor, just on a spare rig). The Odyssey G9 was "almost" the perfect monitor, to my eyes better color, blacks and brightness. Love the super ultrawide (32:9) format but alas I had a handful of things that bothered me for that price point. One, it made the vertical height of the monitor even more obvious to me that it was "thin", probably my number one issue (it's the same height as my old 34")

so this does something a more flat ultrawide couldn't and reduces the argument for staying w/ dual 27" setups where one monitor can be angled, important for some workflows, even as going to 49" over dual setup is like adding an extra screen given that most web pages are designed for about 60% the width of standard screen. I'm using Windows PowerToys w/ fancy zones (all free) .. at the moment have it set 3 screen across, though 4 screens across is comfortable too I but transitions webpages into their "narrow" format

  ..so this does something a more flat ultrawide couldn't and reduces the argument for staying w/ dual 27" setups where one monitor can be angled, important for some workflows, even as going to 49" over dual setup is like adding an extra screen given that most web pages are designed for about 60% the width of standard screen.  The games that natively support 32:9 are rare. This is not so much Samsungs or any 32:9 fault but its still a con and one that should be noted.  Update 4/28/2021: When i submitted a RMA on 2/11/2021 and it took Samsung 30 days just to contact me back to tell me it will be a process. Their RMA process is chaotic when it comes to their info as one person has no idea and gives you the run around and the other person you speak to also does not know anything but to tell you to call back in a week

 Very disappointing.  Additionally, and this is of no fault to Samsung or the G9, but more an issue with ultrawides in general (this is the first I've used): The huge ultrawide resolution is not well supported in games, and has the opposite effect from whats intended when you upgrade to a monitor like this. Take cyberpunk for instance, it has a real nasty fisheye effect on the sides of the screen that cannot be dealt with without installing third party software and/or hex editing. This may be okay for some but for the $$ I'd expect plug and play

Pros: The monitor is sexy. Its aesthetically pleasing. The curve is amazing. Perfect viewing angle all the time, its very immersive

 This mode is a little slower at 144hz at a 6.55 millisecond response time average, but it still packs great performance with a limited amount of overshoot, 60 hertz and everything in between those refresh rates using this mode provides what i'd describe as a single overdrive mode experience. Even if it technically doesn't use variable overdrive compared to other monitors, the eave spectrum is decent at its maximum 144hz. Refresh rate response times are in the ballpark of other ips monitors, while retaining a low level of inverse ghosting

 While the response time average is better than the normal mode. Overshoot is significant and noticeable leading to inverse ghosting trails. Cumulative deviation is worse than the normal mode, so we've gone backwards here when weighing up the bounce between speed and overshoot. Beyond this, you can control overdrive via the user customizable slider, which allows values between 0 and 63

 It supports. Adaptive sync variable refresh rates. It has one millisecond rated response times through the use of an lg ips panel and it has hdr 600 rating with up to 750 nits of brightness. The big selling point here used to be hdmi 2

 The basics here that using a user setting of 15 for overdrive causes a bit too much inverse ghosting at 60 hertz. After careful examination of a range of overdrive options, i ended up settling on a user setting of 10 for the best experience across the refresh range. This mode is a little slower at 144hz at a 6.55 millisecond response time average, but it still packs great performance with a limited amount of overshoot, 60 hertz and everything in between those refresh rates using this mode provides what i'd describe as a single overdrive mode experience
