The Salomon QST 98 is back this season with a slightly more freestyle design, while still be able to handle high speed skiing and do well on hard snow. This ski is made for advanced skiers who want access to the whole mountain and performance in all conditions. Reinforced with carbon, flax, and titanal, the QST 98 is stable and damp at high speeds and can hold its edge well. 98mm underfoot with decent rocker in the tips and tails, this ski shines off-piste, in the trees and powder, and really allows skiers to push limits on and off the trails.
Key Features:
- C/FX and Cork Damplifier – Salomon adds a full layer of blended carbon and flax to the ski, along with cork in the tips and tails to keep the ski very damp without excess weight. The cork in the tips/tails helps prevent chatter at high speeds, while the C/FX layer increases torsional stiffness and stability throughout the body of the ski.
- TI Binding Reinforcement – A section of Titanal is added edge to edge in the center section of the ski to really increase energy transference and stability underfoot, especially when carving and getting the ski on edge.

 So you're getting a lot more rocker out of the tail of this ski compared to the QST 92. So take an East Coast based skier, for example, these are, you know, arguably the two more appropriate widths as a daily driver ski. Between the 92 and the 98, you're getting like more precision on a groomer and then more versatility in the trees. And it also kind of like matches, matches potential skiing style, too

 I'm a little out of breath from that run, but boy that was fun.

 We've been testing this ski for a while now.

 Back when we released the QST blank review, we had been testing these right alongside the blank.

 And actually there's kind of some similarities to this QST 98 and that black.

 We are going to go back into the studio and we'll look at this and we'll look at it compared to the old QST 99 and talk about all the differences.

 But before that, Bob, what do you think?

 You know, it's almost going so far as to say this is a different ski, kind of like you were saying in the spirit of the blank.

 And I think it's nice because it differentiates itself not only from the older QST 99, but from the stance.

 You know, whether it's the 96 or the 102, they're kind of making this branch off a little bit more.

 I think there was a little bit of overlap between that older 99 and the 102 or 96.

 But this with the rocker and the taper definitely sets it apart.

 Makes it a lot quicker than the older 99.

 There's definitely good grip underfoot for this ski and you can really push it.

 Yeah, it's pretty impressive how hard you can ski it considering the amount of tail rocker it is.

 You're on the 189 now and I've skied both the 183 and the 189.

 And it definitely feels like it's got a lot of stability to it for the amount of rocker and taper to it.

 So it's a nice blend of all those things for that higher end versatile ski.

 You don't have to push it so hard and it's not a bully.

 If you want to put it up against the bonafide 97, you're not going to find a comparison there.

 It's definitely a lot more user friendly.

 No, we were actually just in the office the other day.

 We were looking at it next to the Dynastar M3 99.

 And the rocker profile of this is pretty darn similar to that ski.

 Like you were saying, I think it like complements their existing skis better.

 Something that I've been thinking about is it kind of complements the 92 and the 106 better too.

 And I'll talk about that more when we get back in the studio.

 But I think it just makes sense how Salomon is kind of splitting up the QST line now.

 Whether you want a slightly flatter tail or more tail rocker.

 Even do a little switch skiing now and then.

 I mean, yeah, the Amano rocker is like borders on twin tip.

 Like I said, we'll catch you back in the studio.

 Talk more about the details of construction and some differences and stuff like that.

 And I really like what they did to this ski.

 But yeah, I think it's just a it's it's just a really cool update to the QST, the QST 99.

 So let's start by looking at shape because we kind of mentioned that I've already mentioned that it has a similar shape to the blank.
