Royal Kludge RK61 vs Glorious GMMK PRO

Today I am reviewing the Royal Kludge 61. This keyboard seems to have a lot going for it. An entry level price at forty-five dollars, mechanical switches, backlighting, and Bluetooth. Let’s see how it holds up in real world use though

Hello OP, the shortest answer is that the TVS Gold is the *only* keyboard amongst the three that has a decent enough build quality to last you for a substantial amount of time.

It feels like a custom keyboard. It really does. It is just completely aluminum top to bottom right there, and this didn't be used as a stinking weapo...

The mechanical keys feel was ok, they do wobble. The weight of the unit was quite surprising (on the heavy side for such a form factor, defeats purpose of small compact and mobile design), the lighting on this keyboard is not bad. First thing I noticed is that while taking out of package; mine had a key come off, just from brushing from the packaging bag, so I placed it back thinking well maybe it was not on the keyboard that well to start. Then I tried with my finger just applying resistance to the ones on the outside of the keyboard and some would come off pretty easy

I'd gotten addicted to it when I had another that came with one out of the box. SO, I knew Glorious was on the list. And once failure had reared it's ugly buttocks at me, Glorious got the call. Call might be an understatement, but what is NOT understated is the heft of this keeb

The replacement is exactly the same as the first and has the same issue, so that’s going to need some reworking on their side.. I think injection mold...

Hey guys, I'm new to mechanical keyboards. I purchased around a year ago the Royal Kludge RK61 for a cheap price and I'm looking to replace it for a keyboard with better quality, the RK61 has quite the horrible layout for developers in my opinion and wobbly keycaps which are my main issues. I am a software developer so I'm mainly looking for a keyboard that is good for typing, don't really care about gaming, or RGB colors and stuff like that.

The Romer-G keycaps are also bad shapewise and uncomfortable. But, I would say that if you don't care about the brand, get a Glorious GMMK. Even better, get the barebones edition for it; if it's available in your region. It's hot-swappable and compatible with many keycap sets, so you can get the exact key feel that you want to get

Personally, looking back I would recommend that people thinking about buying this spend a few more bucks and get one of the bigger names out there. I’m currently using a HyperX Alloy Origins wired keyboard and I love it. This keyboard is fine as a starter or something like that, but if you spend an extra 15-25 dollars you can get a (much) better quality keyboard that will likely last you for many years to come.

I think the price is totally worth it! I did end up buying the durock v2 stabilizers here on Amazon and I think that upgrade is a must before you assemble your board. The stock stabilizers were over lubed and just not great. I had no fitment issues putting in the durock v2s. Honestly for the price, just get those so you don't have to disassemble your whole bored again later

I picked my Royal Kludge RK100 up for $80, it's usually $90 but there was a coupon that popped up on amazon. For $80, I couldn't be *too* upset about the lack of dissasembly options and the raised LEDs, but had I known that was the situation, I likely would have just gotten a Keychron K4 instead for a little bit more.

This kit has some of the worst stabilizers i've had the displeasure of "using". Spacebar rattles and the other ones stick. To remedy this you can try cleaning them but not like Glorious instructs on their website with isopropyl alcohol; that murks the inside of the plastic housings and makes them abrasive and scratchy rendering them useless unless you take em apart and fully de-grease them in a soapy water bath then hand dry them after a rinse. Doing that reverts the lot back to usable (as in they will function) but with more rattle

Mine is a USB-C all though the ad does still show micro usb in their photos. The RK software does absolutely nothing for me, neither does the firmware download. It's a pain to get it to even download and when it does open it just shows a keyboard with absolutely no options to choose from or anything.

The Glorious software (only for Windows, sorry Mac users) used for changing lighting and programming macros is stable and intuitive, but you came to the wrong house if you wanted a keyboard with more complex RGB patterns. This is a little disappointing, but the GMMK Pro isn’t specifically geared toward the audience that finds that aspect particularly important. In fact, Glorious only offers two sets of shine-through keycaps but nine sets of keycaps that are either solid colors or gradients.
