Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island vs Res Arcana

**Dislikes:** Component altering legacy mechanics, reliance of scenario books/boards, a mountain of little wooden/plastic cubes, needing a GM, need for external apps, long linear campaign that requires the same group of players or only gets good after several sessions.

It is not for beginners. Older teenagers to adults would appreciate it. You try and complete as many steps as you can each turn to arrive at 10 points before anyone else accumulating materials to buy elements to purchase cards/points, that sort of thing. If you are an avid strategic board game player you will understand

As a co-op, I've heard this game is particularly hard to run through when one person has more experience than the other players - I think my biggest advice for those players is that its probably best to take a back seat and let your companions fall flat a few times as they learn what to be concerned about. Bottom Line - I'm a huge fan of the theme, and the gameplay, but this is not a game for those who want to win more than they lose.

TLDR: Im looking for something that has the element of emergence, exploiting synergies (with regards to building engines) without them being too ‘obvious’ (and having lots of options with regards to strategy e.g. alternate wincons) with a good tempo to the game, strategic depth that rewards repeated plays, low RNG and cost overhead (in terms of shelf-space and time investment). Not asking for much I know! But essentially want anything that captures the ‘feel’ of Race for the Galaxy

Pros: - Good balance and much fun for two people - Replaying capabilities are huge, a lot of things depend on Holy Random - Nevertheless, Strategy is really important, can't win the game simply doing your chores, need to plan a lot. - You win like 1 in 5 times for each scenario Cons: - You win like 1 in 5 times for each scenario - Balance (in terms of food and resources) can be rather hard (if not broken) for more than two people - You always feel like you are about to win this set, but you lose in the last round.

.the strategy is VERY deep. About the only major flaw (besides the lack of theme) is the lack of cards

in order to win this game you need to come up with some ways to make it a little more manageable otherwise it will be the new "monopoly" where family members get upset and flip the board over

**Beat That!** \- A party in a box type game. Our friends had us to their house for a game night. They arent board gamers, and I wouldnt classify this as a board game and more of an experience. The game makes you bounce ping pongs balls into cups and jump on pieces of paper and do push ups while stacking cups

My children 11, 7 and 6 love this game but would not be able to play it without an adult to help guide them along. For those who like team games this is a must.

This week, in my spare moments when friends aren't online, it's been all **Era: Medieval Age** all the time. After trying about every variation I could think of, 17 games in I hit upon the right combination and achieved Pope, with a score of 116. That was a very pleasant result. Having solved that puzzle, I moved promptly on to Collector Set 2 and Collector Set 3, all 3 sets having arrived by post Saturday

Personally, I am enjoying playing it to analyze the many things wrong with it. Shame, because it’s a beautiful game, otherwise. I imagine the cynical designer/s thought they were clever and had a good laugh at coming up with the relentless setbacks making it so impossible to achieve the goals and win the game. Sound simple? It is, but Res Arcana is deceptively deep. Should you REALLY use your resources to play another card? Or, do you use those resources to activate an ability which may pay greater dividends in the long run? And which place of power is best suited for your strategy? Which magic item do you swap for at the end of your turn? One that gives you additional resources, or one that grants you a game-altering ability? The choices are nearly limitless. In closing, I can't recommend this game enough. My review is admittedly vague and open-ended, but you know what? So is this game
