This is a very well-designed hybrid piece that effectively does the job of two jackets. 
This trim layer is pretty snug fitting, and the hood is designed to be worn under a helmet rather than over it. Sizing up would be a good idea if you like to wear warm insulating layers underneath; otherwise, we were very impressed with the performance of this softshell/hardshell hybrid jacket, though take note: while impressively water-resistant, the Kinetic isn't as waterproof as a rain jacket.

The North Face Flight Futurelight has a tough-as-nails build and weather protection that is on par with mountaineering jackets costing twice as much. This jacket is made for layering when the weather turns extremely sour. Most waterproof running jackets fit so tight to the skin that you can't effectively layer with them. This means your choice of jacket often becomes a choice of staying warm or staying dry. The Flight Futurelight bucks this trend, offering layering room and fantastic water protection while still remaining breathable enough where the jacket doesn't become a sauna. In fact, the Futurelight material is among the most breathable materials we've tested, performing just as admirably in hot lowland rains as it did in mountain storms. And at under 9 ounces, it's light enough that combined even with a mid-layer, it's lighter than many insulated jackets.
The Flight Futurelight isn't an everyday jacket, to be sure, with its heavier weight and slightly baggier fit. But if you need to get that training run in even through hail and sleet, or if you might find yourself bunkered down on the side of a mountain as a storm passes, then this is the jacket for you.

This is a really nice jacket unfortunately I am long-waisted and the jacket is way too short. If you buy tall clothing I would try it on before you buy it.

Very well made garment...unfortunately...

 It has worked incredibly well with maintaining warmth and releasing moisture from inside. I wear a Merino wool layer(s) under the jacket based on temperature and wind chill. I have done long runs (3+ hours) and short high intensity runs in the jacket and have zero moisture build up on the inside of the jacket. It handles snow and wind like a champ as I ran in -7 degree wind-chill today

 I was only planning on a short run. I figured this was the time um it's about 35 degrees, so not super warm um, really the the temperature and conditions when all rain jackets should excel. I wasn't running hard. I wasn't running long where sweat was going to build up
