 If you have them aimed right at you, you are in heaven and this works great for me as I want to listen without disturbing others. However I could see this being problematic in home theater applications where you have more than one listener spread out in multiple seating locations. Used in a larger home theater they might work but in a small one the sound field will be too narrow (within 20 degrees of center) to cover all seating positions. This unfortunately may mean the the whole Polk Reference range may not be the best choice for small home theaters with more than one seating position

 I haven't tried them in my home theater though, I'm only basing this off what I have observed in my stereo set up. If you are dead set to try them don't let me stop you. The only other con is on some songs (less than one percent of my faves) the sound lacks the bite of my JBL Studio 530's. This manifests itself on the Wallow's track 'These Days'

 There is a nice texture to the bass. Highs are smooth and airy. They respond well to EQ, I like to use my Schiit Loki to give them more of a V-curve. Modern, well recorded tracks from Tidal come out sounding the best

 I feel this speaker would definitely enjoy a high quality amp and so use it with a high quality class D or a class AB amp (50w/channel or higher).  I have the LSiM 702 surrounds in my home theater and always loved its sound signature and was very excited when Polk released these at a lower price point than LSiM 703. The sound signature is very similar between the LSiM and Reserve with a smidge more detail retrieval in the Reserve. Makes me wonder why the LSiM didn't get the same attention as the Reserves

I have the R200, the Sound Artist LS3/5a, and an Emotiva T0+ with my Cambridge Audio CXA80 and SMSL VMV A1 both of which use my Denafrips Ares II for a DAC (OS mode, Slow filter). This is a very "muscular" speaker with meat on the sound. It is not as lush or delicate sounding as my LS3/5a, and not as crystal clear/wide sound stage as my T0+. But it is a great all rounder for both music and movies (esp

 The sound signature is very similar between the LSiM and Reserve with a smidge more detail retrieval in the Reserve. Makes me wonder why the LSiM didn't get the same attention as the Reserves. I suspect the Legend series overshadowed the LSiM series along with the significantly higher prices.

Micca MB42 review: Compact, stylish speakers on the cheap

Kanto YUP 4 $199.  Wow.  At Christmas these were $119 on sale, well worth the price.  Still good at $199, but

..  I like the C91 better at this price, but these have more bass and are not as bright.

Sony SSCS5 when they are on sale for under $100.  Don't ever buy them not on sale.  Sony just plays games with the pricing.

  But as soon as I put on some classic rock (Journey Escape album), the Miccas became completely unforgiving, cold, and harsh. Every bit of noise in the recording is focused through the "megaphone sounding" midrange. The rock tunes were completely unlistenable. And that is a showstopper for me

 The second strike is that the Miccas have no authority in the bottom end, they are now back in the box with a return label on them.  Next up for consideration will be Audioengine A5+ (especially since they have Class AB amps), and the JBL LSR305/LSR308. Yes, they are 4X the price, but I'm expecting two orders of magnitude improvement. The biggest question for me is do I want speakers that are REVEALING, or do I want them to be FORGIVING? I'm really on the fence, and as the wise men say, "you can't have it all"

 Next I put the iPhone on "Loudness" EQ for Apple Music AKA iTunes on the iPhone. With the EQ goose, I put on Chicago 18 / Will You Still Love Me..

 Even if there's no sig, that's something that I wish had kind of been changed and then something that I wish they would add to the next rendition is Bluetooth, something that these so happened, though they have little cheap adapters. But I feel like it's relatively easy to build in nowadays, and they should have done that other than that, though, these things are are just simply exceptional. If you have them properly set up, they have some Imaging that have ever heard on on a headphone on a speaker, anything they are just dead center in the middle and they want to be dead center. If you watch a video - and you just listen - you close your eyes, then you pause it

Micca PB42X | Powered Bookshelf Speaker Review | Under $150 | (They are awesome!)

 While they lack the midrange clarity of the Polks they are well-balanced and listenable, plus they look great with the grilles on or off. Hard-core audiophiles may be annoyed by their flaws (which I'm still hopeful will fade over time) but in our setup they sound just fine.  UPDATE: A few weeks later and the lower midrange bump I hear on close-miked male vocals continues to subside. But it's very source-dependent

 I was expecting an extended break-in period with these speakers so I wasn't overly alarmed, and the next day the hollowness had almost completely disappeared.  Over the next few weeks of daily listening I found the Miccas to be well-balanced and non-fatiguing, but with a distinct chesty resonance on closely-miked male vocals. An announcer wearing a lapel mike would almost always excite this resonance, while a male narrator of a well-produced PBS documentary would not. The placement of the Miccas near the floor and close to a corner would almost certainly have a lot to do with this, and while the effect was noticeable with careful listening it wasn't annoying (I'm a reformed audiophile who has learned not to sweat the small stuff, especially with speakers costing less than $80 a pair)

  Several more weeks later and the chestiness seems to be subsiding a little. Again, placement is probably a factor but the lack of resonance from well-recorded TV audio suggests to me that the Miccas are a bit unforgiving of bad microphone placement. This makes sense, since they've been described as desktop monitors.  I intend to update this review when I've had a chance to move the Miccas closer to ear level and audition them with music

 I wasn't expecting miracles with the Miccas but was hoping for a well-balanced sound with a decent soundstage from our basic setup. The Miccas would be placed on a low AV bench about a foot off the floor, along with the receiver and TV. It's all in a corner, not the ideal audio setup, I know, but with picture windows on either side this was the only spouse-friendly choice.  On first applying power to the Miccas I was shocked to hear a very distinct hollowness in the upper bass/lower midrange, and a nasal, congested quality that stuck out like a sore thumb

 Not even close. But for desktop computer speakers? Holy frikin' crap are these worth the measly $100.  I'll get into it here and why some people have given them 1 star. It's because they probably are used to crappy Bose or Beats headphones that max out the lows and highs despite what's going on with the source

 be sure to use an equalizer. they reproduce accurate sound, not over dramatized "sparkle frequencies" like Bose or Beats (but they can if you want). Again, accurate reproduction. Crank the lows and they'll go low

 I suspect the true effective power to be in the 5W-7W range, but well controlled and having very gentle clipping characteristics. While adequate to drive the Micca's in my application, the little amp will not push them anywhere close to their limits. This being said, the speakers perform very well. Bass is tight and well-defined

With regard to bass output, these compare very favorably to my old Realistic Minimus 7's, speakers having similar drivers and operating efficiency

 I compared them to another set of similarly-priced popular well-reviewed and larger bookshelf speakers after reading reviews that these micca's sound "hollow". Well those other speakers sounded muted/muffled in comparison. The pure clarity of instrumentation on these stood out so much I made the decision to keep them in minimal time. Once you start upping the volume the quality really shines phenomenally

 After break in and with the volume at the right level these puppies are warm and rich enough. I'm listening them right now to "Space Station Soma" on SomaFM internet radio station and this station and all music is simply wonderful sonic pleasure. These are superbly engineered speakers. Nowadays I'm using these through a Pyle PAMP2000BT Bluetooth amp/switch pumping bluetooth to them through a Galaxy S6
