 And with the new Ping G-400 range, we've got the same principle, I've got the standard one here, there's also the LS-T and the SF-T which offer the similar kind of performance as the previous version, so LS-T standing for low spin technology for better players with faster swing speeds and then the SF-T standing for straight flight technology, which is going to give you more draw bias for those golfers that tend to slice the ball, traditionally higher handicappers. So what we've got here, first thing to talk about is the Dragonfly technology on the crown. Ping have made a lot of these changes to improve the sound and feel of the driver, that was one thing they really wanted to focus on with this club. With the LS Tech version that tungsten weight moves in front of this other weight here and in the SF Tech it moves more towards the heel, so Ping have really played around with the weighting of this driver to make it more user friendly, but more of a sleeker compact looking package

 Okay so let's look at the all important GC2 launch monitor numbers to see exactly how the new G400 driver compared against the G, I've been testing the LST version which is the model that I've been fitted for, it's the best for me out of the three, in both the G and the G400, we'll start with the G which gave me some good base numbers, I was carrying it 274 yards, spinning at 1700 with a really nice healthy launch angle at 17 degrees. I've actually got some club speed data as well here, so average with 106mph club head speed with the Ping G LSTEC, moving on to the Ping G400 LST Driver, interestingly club head speed saved the same at 106mph, but what I would say is that it definitely felt lighter and faster than the Ping G, I'm not sure why that was, obviously it's a slightly smaller head so in theory it should feel a little bit quicker, it just felt a little bit smoother through the air, lighter and quicker and easier to swing, although I didn't actually swing it any faster, you'll notice that distance did go up very slightly to 276 yard carry so just two yards more, exactly the same ball flight in terms of the peak height at 38 yards and exactly the same launch angle, so while the performance numbers were very similar, definitely preferred the feel and sound of this driver through the air but also the impact of that sound is definitely quieter, it's just a more refined, more what I would expect from a premium driver, if you want to call this a premium driver obviously there are more expensive drivers out there on the market, but this one for me felt and sounded a lot better, a lot more from what I would want from a driver, but the numbers, marginal improvements with driver launches from cycle to cycle, we're only seeing very marginal improvements and that's across the board from multiple brands, we've seen one or two yard gains, maybe two or three yard gains and that's exactly the same case for me with the Ping G400, spin was very similar, actually spun a little bit less which I like, although it wasn't launching any higher, it should give me a little bit more run out when the ball hits the fairway so to summarise, I definitely prefer the more compact look of the new G400, it's definitely an improvement in the overall cosmetics at address, some golfers might prefer a larger looking driver, you know you've got your M146D, your Callaway Epic driver which would look probably more confidence inspiring behind the ball but there's definitely a lot of help on off centre hits with this driver, the Ping have managed to make this even more forgiving, they say the MOI is high even though it's a smaller head so that should give you the assurance that you need that you're going to get the help on those off centre hits. There you have it, the Ping G400 driver, as always if you're looking to upgrade to this model go and try it, the different models get custom fitted because Ping have a host of aftermarket shaft options as well for an upcharge so definitely worth dialling in on those numbers on a launch monitor with a fitter and you'll hopefully experience some really good gains with this Ping G400 driver so thanks for watching, make sure you check out my colleague Neil Tappin's video, he's done a really good piece on comparing the G400 with the G and the G30 so three generations of Ping drivers going up against each other in a head to head to head battle so make sure you watch that, make sure you watch my other video on the forgiveness of this G400 driver and also the other clubs in the G400 range, we've got all reviews on all of the clubs within the new line so make sure you check those out as well but for now from Westhill, it's goodbye.

 You've got the adjustability on the hosel as well, up or down by one degree, so a couple of other things to talk about as well with this driver, first of all is the shaft, now I've got the tour shaft which has a silver kind of PVD finish on it, but the stock offering has colour shift paint technology on it which is a fascinating technology to view when you see what happens with it. So basically it comes in the copper colour, when you view it from most angles it looks like that copper colour, if you see it on the shelf it'll look like that, but then when you put it down at address, so when you lower it like this, it actually changes the way the light reflects on it, it actually changes to black, so that's designed to minimise distraction when you're over the ball, but also to catch your eye on the shelf in the Pro Shop, so interesting from Ping. The other thing to talk about is the grip, the stock grip, this is obviously my fitted model so it comes with, I've chosen the Golf Pride multi compound grip here, but the stock grip is the Tour Velvet, for the first time Ping obviously used to make their own grips for their clubs, now they've gone to the Golf Pride Tour Velvet. So I've talked about the technology, lots going on with this driver, I've had a really thorough hit with it today at Westhill Golf Club, let's dive into the numbers to see exactly what we've got and how it compared with the previous G Driver

Ping G400 Driver Review - YouTube

 Hello, Joel Tubman here from Golf Monthly, it's a very special day here today at West

 One of those days that only comes around every couple of years is because we have been able

 to test the new Ping G-Range and we're talking about drivers specifically, I've got it here

 Ping have kept a lot of the technologies that we saw with the G-Driver that this replaces

 and they've just refined a lot of them to make the driver longer, straighter, more forgiving,

 And I'm going to talk about exactly how they've done that, but let's talk about the different

 As we know, the Ping G-Range came in three different models, the LS Tech and the SF Tech

 And with the new Ping G-400 range, we've got the same principle, I've got the standard

 one here, there's also the LS-T and the SF-T which offer the similar kind of performance

 is going to give you more draw bias for those golfers that tend to slice the ball, traditionally

 So what we've got here, first thing to talk about is the Dragonfly technology on the crown.

 one thing they really wanted to focus on with this club.

 And with the Dragonfly technology, they've been able to extend that even further from

 the crown into the sole as well, you can see these sections here, either side of this channel

 in the middle and that saves weight, Ping say, and it also improves the sound and feel

 Ping say that you're going to get a duller, more powerful thud at impact compared to

 the G-Driver which was, for some people, a little bit too loud, a little bit tinny.

 Ping say this is going to be improved with this driver.

 Other thing to mention with this driver is the fact that they've actually made it slightly

 smaller and you look at it at address, it definitely looks smaller, it's actually three

 percent smaller than the G-Driver which was 460cc.

 So this is going to be around about the 448cc mark in terms of size and volume, sorry.

 So the other reason that it looks smaller is because of this infinity edge at the back.

 So Ping have taken the kind of rim, if you like, where the Dragonfly section's ended,

 they've taken that out and replaced it with this kind of perforated detailing on the back.

 It's purely for cosmetic purposes, it's not really got a performance benefit, but Ping

 say it just makes the driver look a little bit sleeker, a little bit more compact, a

 little bit more refined and I would definitely agree it does the job with that.

 The tubulators on the Crown are still there, they're slightly wider and Ping say they're

 going to be slightly more effective at increasing club head speed by reducing drag.

 The other thing to talk about is this new club face.

 So this is a new version of the T9S material, it's actually T9S Plus, Ping are calling

 It's a stronger material, they've made it lighter, it's enabled the face to be thinner

 in certain areas, it's going to give you more forgiveness and ball speed across the face,

 also improves the sound and feel as well.

 You can probably see it on the bottom of this driver, we've got some tungsten weighting

 It's the first time Ping have used tungsten for a while, I think it was the I25 model

 was the last time they used tungsten weighting in this driver, obviously that Ping have been

 able to use that to move the weight further back in the head.

 This is the deepest centre of gravity Ping has ever created in a driver and that's helped

 by the fact that it's the lightest crown they've ever used as well, but also because of the

 You see you've got this copper coloured weight in the back, this actually changes depending

 on the model or drive that you've got, I believe it's heaviest in this model, the standard

 Ping G400 driver and gets lighter into the different models, but it's around about seven

 Again that's just moving the weight back, making the driver launch higher and more forgiving.

 With the LS Tech version that tungsten weight moves in front of this other weight here and

 in the SF Tech it moves more towards the heel, so Ping have really played around with the

 weighting of this driver to make it more user friendly, but more of a sleeker compact looking
