 It’s a very classy and elegant looking pen. The fine nib writes beautifully and the capping mechanism is simply sublime. I bought it through Amazon for less than $100, which, for a 14k gold nib with a very unique looking pen, is a bargain in my mind.

Depending on where you buy this pen, it may or may not come with a CON-40 cartridge converter. This particular purchase did not come with a cartridge converter, but with a Pilot branded black ink cartridge. This wasn't a problem since I have a few CON-40 converters handy. But if you do use a CON-40, there is a downside to it: because the CON-40 is so small

For good feedbacky nibs in a “reasonable” price range I’d look at the Platinum Procyon and Sailor Procolor. You want medium to match your western fine.

I got a twsbi eco about a year ago as my first fountain pen. The nib on it is odd. It can write with a feedback which almost feels like a pencil, which I love, but as soon as I turn the page it has a horrible draggy bogged down sort of feel to it. There is no pattern or logic as to when it will do which. Anyway, I really love the pencil-like feedback but I haven’t really found a nib since then that can display it. Do any of you know a western fine size nib that has a feedback that sort of feels like a pencil?

I just placed an order yesterday for a new Platinum Procyon, and they're the only retailer I know of that hasn't hiked up the price of the Procyon. My first order from Lemur came with a free sample of yama-budo and a nice hand-written note from John in Asa-gao. Now I have an asa-gao ink test! Also, as far as I know, Lemur Ink is just run by one guy!

In your experience, which sellers deserve a shout out for customer service and why?

The Procyon is a good step up from the Preppy/Prefounte/Plaisir series of pens from Platinum. This is a mid-level fountain pen with a good nib and quality construction. The slip & seal cap system actually works as advertised, keeping the nib and ink supply from drying out over extended periods of time. I find that it writes well without feathering even on poor quality paper
