 It’s a very classy and elegant looking pen. The fine nib writes beautifully and the capping mechanism is simply sublime. I bought it through Amazon for less than $100, which, for a 14k gold nib with a very unique looking pen, is a bargain in my mind.

Depending on where you buy this pen, it may or may not come with a CON-40 cartridge converter. This particular purchase did not come with a cartridge converter, but with a Pilot branded black ink cartridge. This wasn't a problem since I have a few CON-40 converters handy. But if you do use a CON-40, there is a downside to it: because the CON-40 is so small

New users typically go for heavier pens, probably because heavy feels expensive or substantial, but in the long run especially for comfort and longer writing sessions, lighter pens are better.

<li>the body is made of metal, so it feels more durable and won&#39;t break as easily as the preppy</li>
<li>I like the nib design more</li>
<li>it doesn&#39;t have a lot of writings like the preppy (I know prefounte is a good alternative if you want a preppy but without the excessive writings on the body) </li>
</ul>

there are many other advantages and disadvantages that were mentioned by the great redditors of this community but the above points are what made my choice of choosing the metro solid

should I buy a platinum preppy or pilot metropolitan as my first fountain pen ?

I got a Pilot Mr Metropolitan, it's a nice pen with a metallic exterior and plastic interior, it comes in a matte finish (I got a black one),and a plastic accent in the middle of the body that changes along with the line ( there's a retro line, an animal line, etc)  and it uses G2 cartridges. I really like mine, it feels heavy in the hand and generally looks good. [This is the pen I got ]([URL REMOVED] the gel roller ball 0.7 it's the one that im sure, takes G2 refills

  UDATE: I contact the Pilot Pen Company directly and within 24 hours received a reply. I was told I could send in my pen for a replacement plus product for the cost of postage! I think that is awesome! I sent my pen in yesterday and will add more to my review when the matter is resolved! I really did love the smooth writing of the pen. It writes even if the cap is off for a period of time! I have more expensive fountain pens that aren't as fun and easy to use as this pen! I bought a couple of colored inks - iroshizuku - beautiful bottles and also wonderful for writing! I purchased these from Amazon as well. I like the feel of the pen in my hand, the weight is nice, not too heavy, yet enough weight to feel like I'm writing with a much pricier pen! I did read many blogs and reviews prior to purchasing the pen, which seems odd for something without a very high price, I am happy I did! Congratulations to Pilot for great customer service!

I really liked my Pilot Metropolitan pen

But, sadly, I personally don't care about any of the pros above, for me, looks are not important. I'd rather have a workable/usable fountain pen that writes properly. I know the pen isn't expensive in terms of price, and fountain pens can very cheap or crazy expensive, but I have cheaper fountain pens that write many times better than the MR, and I am disappointed with my purchase, not so much for the money I spent on it, but with the way, it turned out.

Pen feels solid and has nice weight. Writes beautifully. Good consistent ink flow. Bought another one but in gold with lizard skin design

Lovely pen honestly, and writes smoothly.  Only problem is now after a couple of months, the grip area seems to be leaking ink?! Inspecting, I don't see any cracks so I'm assuming it's leaking from the plastic seams. Photo attached.
