 It’s a very classy and elegant looking pen. The fine nib writes beautifully and the capping mechanism is simply sublime. I bought it through Amazon for less than $100, which, for a 14k gold nib with a very unique looking pen, is a bargain in my mind.

Depending on where you buy this pen, it may or may not come with a CON-40 cartridge converter. This particular purchase did not come with a cartridge converter, but with a Pilot branded black ink cartridge. This wasn't a problem since I have a few CON-40 converters handy. But if you do use a CON-40, there is a downside to it: because the CON-40 is so small

A step up (under $300) - Pilot Custom 823 - great nib, the filling system, hard to beat this pen at any price. Pricey (up to $700 or so) - Pelikan Souverän M1000 Green - beautiful pen, fabulous nib

2. Kaweco makes _the_ ugliest fountain pens I have ever seen in my life, especially the sport. Oh god.

3. Where’s the fun in collecting TWSBI, Lamy, Kaweco or other pens just to have them in different colors? You could explore so many new brands, mechanisms or models with that money.

Again, no hate towards anyone, I just find it fun to hear from some of the people who might not see much representation in the sub.

What are your unpopular fountain pen opinions?

They're incredibly well made! The nibs are really smooth. They're comparable to or better than most of my more expensive pens. Both PenBBS and Moonman (aka Majohn) are well worth the price and the wait.

how's the quality in general on PENBBS pens? Any specifics that I should avoid?

 Now for the pen itself. I personally loved the transparent design. For my size hand, which is on the large size, it fit perfectly and was very well balanced. The materials seemed to be of a very high quality, including the nib itself

The materials seemed to be of a very high quality, including the nib itself. this is my very first eye dropper fountain pen and i was concerned that it may leak but after inspecting the design i was reassured that this would not happen because of the beautiful design of the nib assembly with o-ring that prevents any ink to leak out of the pen. Great Pen for the Price

  Can not recommend you purchase. Maybe I happened to get a bad one, but I’m not going to try and return a pen that I’ve clearly filled with ink. Other reviewers seem happy, so it’s quite possible this is a fluke, but I was not happy with this purchase. If I were to do it over, I would look elsewhere and pick up another Hongdian, or something in that equivalent price range

Not A Wise Purchase

 I filled it with Thornton's Red ink, in the customary manner of matching the pen to ink color, and it is just a wonder to behold. The clear acrylic is luminous and sets off the translucency of the deep red ink creating an almost magical effect. I also really like the solid acrylic caps on both ends. They capture and bend the light in ways that are delightful

 The touted improvement is really a step back, in my opinion. Manufacturer should make the anodization more grippy and the pen would be awesome.  Instead of the aluminum grip, I would recommend opt for the clear grip which is same material as the pen body (resin/plastic), and has a nicer grip.

Firstly, the pen quality, ink capacity and nib is very good, top class and no complaints there. The biggest complaint, which makes the pen essentially unusable for me, is the lack of proper grip -- the anodized aluminum grip section is slick and I found it very difficult to write for longer duration. The touted improvement is really a step back, in my opinion. Manufacturer should make the anodization more grippy and the pen would be awesome

  This pen is well priced, a value, and more fun to write with than the Delike Alpha, Pilot Metropolitan, or Lamy Vista I bought for a similar price. This will likely be my go-to travel/daily carry pen for awhile.

Very nice pen for the price! I would highly recommend this pen. I think it writes better than, gasp, TWSBI pens. I love how it looks. You can show off all of your stunning inks

 Writes smoothly, and has little flex.  Again, this is a must have at this price point. I’d just love to see more choices of nib size but this is still worth 5 stars, easy.
