It can be said that "CUSTOM" is the glory name. Moderate thickness of axis, length, nib, and the sight that shaved extra decoration. The attitude to pursue supreme writing intently - this is the "CUSTOM". However this "CUSTOM 823" have very interesting sucking system. The system is "Plunger system". 

Enjoyable filling mechanism 
This system use nature of "vacuum". You can enjoy mechanism through skeleton body. Turn the knob and pull stick... pull, pull. Let's push the knob. The ink is filling in a moment ! And when you write, gently loosen the knob (for flowing ink to nib). Ink is dancing in the skeleton axis. Interesting. Can't forget the scene if you look once. Certainly you can't wait out of ink. So, please write, write, write ! But don't forget. This is "CUSTOM". 

Why Plunger system ? 
Please remember the general attitude of "CUSTOM". Usefulness for writing. "Plunger system" can pump up more ink (1.5ml). This is the most quantity among regular line. Around 1935 - using rotary system was not popular. The proposition was "prevent ink from leaking and store more quantity". Plunger system have both points. Now, cartridge and converter system become popular. But not be sepia color. 

nib 
Nib is 14K (#15), large size. It's majestic and arched shape is elegant. But of course, essence is writing touch. The moderate hardness can endure long time writing. And moderate softness tell characteristic repulsion. Good balance. 
Ink - This system is peculiar, so strongly recommend to use INK-70 (PILOT products). This bottle have ink reservoir. 
Equipped accessories - Of course, special box only. Cartridge ? Converter ? What is it ?

 I also have the Custom 74 which is also a fantastic pen in its own right. I have developed a lot of respect for Pilot and realize that their pens are every bit as good as many of the pricier brands. This is my opinion but after reading many many reviews, other seem to agree. The quality of construction is superb

Having many fountain pens, and a few other Pilot FP, the CUSTOM 823 was one of my personal "grail" pens. I have a Pilot Metropolitan, the best $15 fountain pen. I also have the Custom 74 which is also a fantastic pen in its own right. I have developed a lot of respect for Pilot and realize that their pens are every bit as good as many of the pricier brands

 Fountain pens are a highly personal preference but this is my short review and opinion.

 This is my opinion but after reading many many reviews, other seem to agree. The quality of construction is superb. The design is nothing earth breaking; it is a classic cigar shaped pen. The uniqueness of this pen comes from the filling system

absolutely lovely

 and a lot of that's because of the filling mechanism. It's got some metal components even though the pen is mostly resin and it's going to be similar in weight. If you're familiar with like the Lobby Mm or the Pilot vanishing Point, it's going to be right in that ring, so the pen is very evenly balanced. It's got the rod inside for the vacuum filler, which kind of distributes the weight throughout the whole body of the ten, and the cap is not as significant of weight as the body of the pen, so that means that it's gonna feel pretty good in your hand whether you have it posted or unposted

 I Think a lot of people consider it to be a workhorse pen. We've even seen celebrities like Neil Gaiman are fans of using this pen on a regular basis and for good reason. I'm going to cover all the aspects of this pen in this video and I think this one kind of falls into the category of actually attainable and pretty affordable Holy Grail pen territory So let's explore why that is here in the U.s

 The difference here, however, is in the nib. I got a medium nib, and it’s buttery smooth with just a hint of feedback. The vacuum filling system really impressed me, as I get a complete fill in just one go.

I'm a newbie as far as fountain pens go. This is a bit of a novelty for me. I don't do a lot of writing but will go through a Gell pen in a month just signing checks. So this is mostly for signature purposes

* Lamy Safari - Once more a very simple pen, sure they have a preparatory converter but that can be offset by how easy the nibs are to change. Seriously if you don't like the nib on one pull it off get a new one and slip it on, simple as. It will allow you to try a variety of different sized nibs to discover which best suits you.

* Conklin - Another one which suffers from quality control issues, if a beginner bought one of these i wouldn't be surprised if they never went back to fountain pens. Both of mine have had issues.

* Parker Vector - It's simple, it's cheap, its pretty reliable. This is the pen which a lot of people who learn how to use fountain pens in school use.

 So this lower pen. This is the exact model and finish that I purchased when I was 10 years old back in 1980. Whatever it was for 399 at the News Center in the Colonial Park Mall in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This is the Rejuvenated Parker Vector

Well, hello today! I'd like to give you my first impressions of the Parker Vector Xl. Now, before we dive into the pen, I just want to point out that, uh, there are several Parkers out that Parker Vectors out there. What is a good starter pen?

While looking for a replacement, I found out about Pilot VPs, bought one, and have been using it ever since. Here's why I'm not going back to cheaper pens for work:

I have (among several others) a Sheaffer VFM Fountain pen,and it feels as smooth as I can imagine a pen to be. It looks great, and feels great. 

So, my question is, what does a, say, Kaweco Sport (I know that costlier ones exist. Just taking this ad an example.), have, that is worth more than 10 times my Sheaffer? I agree it looks good, a different kind of good, than the Sheaffer, but I like it. But, I think there should be more solid reason for the higher price.

What do you get with costlier pens?

Parker Quink Black and Blueblack - because they're just gray with different undertones and I used to hate their shading. After a couple years I've developed a love for shading, so "black" became my favourite daily "work-appropriate" ink.

I have a couple of examples of this.  

1.  Noodlers walnut ink.  When I got it, I just thought it was a boring brown ink.  As I tried more inks and developed my taste in writing with new inks, it’s a favorite now.  Whenever I don’t know what ink to put in a pen, I always go to walnut.  

2. Lamy al-star.  When I purchased it on vacation in Vancouver (shout out to Vancouver pen shop) I was excited to try out the pen.  Turns out it had a terrible nib.   Scratchy to high heaven.  I finally swapped out the nib last year and now it is one of my favorite pens.  It tends to hurt my carpal tunnel, though so I usually only use it for a fill or two before I give it a rest. 

3. Parker vector.  I bought it because I am considering a Parker sonnet as a graduation present to myself.  It is dry as the California desert I live in (we got less than an inch of rain this last year, so pretty dry!).  After letting it sit for months (and even tossing it in the bin once, later retrieving it) I got the idea to put 54th mass in it, the wettest ink I own that I hardly use because it’s a bit unruly.  Well, that did the trick.  It made the pen useable, and the ink behave much much better.  Now it’s a combo I keep around a lot for official document signing and all that jazz.  When a colored (or sparkle) ink isn’t appropriate.
