 It felt sturdy and I could definitely tell that Peloton paid attention to the details. I've tried a ton of bikes for my apartment, gym and cycling classes like Soulcycle and this is up on another level. But that could be said for any home exercise equipment. The bigger draw with Peloton was the built-in competitive element of it: seeing that leaderboard somehow did make me pedal harder. And despite being alone in my living room, it effectively simulated a “real” cycling class, for lack of a better description. I’ve always liked group sports or races for the intangible energy that’s generated from a bunch of people all trying to achieve the same physical thing, and I was skeptical that Peloton could provide that

 It’s nicely constructed and, at 135 pounds, so heavy that I needed help moving the bike around my apartment. This is not something you assemble at home, either. It requires in-home delivery, a process I went through twice because the first Peloton that was delivered physically locked up when I started riding it. The second unit’s pedals worked like they were supposed to

 “I’m up or down on the scale. I tried running for awhile but it was always more of a chore, like ‘Ugh, I have to go out and run five miles today.’”

 So the handlebar design is also really ergonomic and nice. It's a bullhorn design. I really like that there's a lot of grip area, so you really do have a ton of options. The grip is not gritty, it feels smooth, but it still provides a nice grip for you

 It has a magnetic friction system which is super smooth when you ride it. Belt drive system requires a lot less maintenance than a chain drive. So one negative thing we have to say about the Peloton bike: The user weight capacity is 297 pounds. industry standard is a lot closer to 350 pounds

 We bought this bike ourselves and we pay monthly for the service as well. and I will say we've been very happy with the Peloton bike. It's held up very well over the year. It's still super smooth, so it is a very good, albeit overpriced piece of equipment

 And then the last thing is that it has Apple's gym kit integration as well as of the end of February 2021. The cost for the peloton bike is 1895 and the cost for the Peloton bike plus starts at two thousand, four hundred and ninety five dollars. There is a six hundred dollar price difference between the two, so you have to kind of weigh. Do you think those features are worth the extra six hundred dollars? We have been extremely happy with the Peloton bike

 All right, let's talk through the pros of this bike. I will say the hardware has held up exceptionally well over the last year. with 200 plus rides on it, The thing is still rock solid silent. I have not had any issues with the hardware whatsoever, so we're very impressed with the build quality of the bike

I’ve seen several posts in the last couple days where someone just getting into cycling asks a frustrated question about their rate of improvement and how it’s affecting their love for this sport and someone else share’s Greg’s quote “It never gets easier; you just go faster.”  I just want to clarify to the new and frustrated riders that if continually going faster is not your goal, it does get easier and your hard work will definitely pay off.  It’s hard for anyone on a bike just getting into it, but after a while you’ll find that the miles do get easier.  I definitely wouldn’t have kept riding if I had to suffer every time I touched my bike like I did just starting out.

 I ended up with a Trek Marlin 5. It certainly wasn’t perfect, but once I got to riding some real trails and improving my skills, I got a better idea of what I wanted to upgrade.

5)  I’m pretty much still a beginner, and I was concerned about this too when I got my first real mountain bike. I also wasn’t too sure what kind of riding I wanted to do. I ended up with a Trek Marlin 5. It certainly wasn’t perfect, but once I got to riding some real trails and improving my skills, I got a better idea of what I wanted to upgrade

All your suggestions for bikes, things to look for or stay away from in a bike are welcome! Trying to make this a post that can be referenced off of for others too. 


1. How can I know what makes a bike valuable? Is there any easy way to guage how good a part/specs are of a bike? (Besides rhe frame material, thats a given)

2. Can you build bikes yourself like computers to be cheaper or is it a completely different story?

3. I know I don't understand wtf the differences between certain parts are, but what about bike lines? For example Trek Roscoe vs Martin ect. What makes all of the bike lines different, and how can I "know" what they are for? (I can assume the numbers mean how top of the line they are, but also is there a certain point that the best of one line wouldnt be worth it compared to another lines lower model?)

4. This one will be a no brainer for you guys, but because I am a noob I have to ask: How does a $500 hardtail compare to a $1000 hardtail? Sure the parts are better, but *what* makes them better?

5. Branching off of #4, what would be the price range for a beginner? From what I have heard I dont like the idea of a super cheap bike, but I dont know if I can take full advantage of something $1500+

6. Obligitory one: at the moment I like flowy, easy-to-go-fast-on trails/parks. I also think offroading in more technical trails is interesting, but I like the roller coaster feel of bike parks better. I have really thought about the Roscoe 7 but then saw the Stance 29 2 and still dont know which is better for my needs as they both are about the same price (lets ignore my point in #5). People say the Stance is good for beginners but is not meant to be "sent" with, can this be bad? I dont want to break a bike for going too crazy lol.


P.S. I think its also worth saying I have a bike, but its really old with spring suspension and rim brakes. So it was good for the time but I cant adjust the suspension down a lot since I am a lightweight. I have thought about upgrading it, but wanted to see my options of getting a modern bike.

New MTB lover here, I have questions that are asked not so often. (And some that are)

 and then you're gonna have these Bontrager XR Endurance Comp Grips which I really like because they've got a flat portion to them. Nice ergonomic shape to be able to keep your hands nice and comfortable. For breaks this is set up with Tech Rose HD em 276 and then for shifters. this bike is set up with Shimano Psaltis Em 315 7-speed shifter

6 seat post and this Bontrager Arvada saddle and then on the cockpit we're gonna have a 31.8 handlebar. A nice wide handlebar. It's gonna run an alloy 31

 This is also an upgrade over the 2020 model with having the M3 15 rather than the M3 10.
