*Warmth and range: With a midweight long sleeve shirt underneath, I'm comfortable in the high 30s/lower 40s (F), and with a fleece underneath, you can go much lower. I live in northern New England and was able to forgo my heavy winter coat for this combination for most of last winter. On the flip side, with a t-shirt underneath, I'm comfortable in the low 60s (F).

I prefer the snug fit which makes it an excellent companion piece to a shell or insulated jacket. For reference I am a tweener sized human, size S Nanopuff and size M Houdini both purchased in 2011. Excellent breathability, cut, comfort.

Of course all this tactile comfort would be a moot point if the jacket was too warm/not warm enough to comfortably wear in a variety of situations, which is where the zips come in (you can see all the zips in action [in this clip here]([URL REMOVED] All the zips coming together make the normally very warm jacket surprisingly comfortable in a wide temperature range, which is essential for my use cases.

And on our trip to Patagonia, I found myself keeping the Houdini close and wearing it daily. It cut the wind nicely when we stopped for lunch while backpacking, and I hiked in it if the weather was cool or the wind was particularly rough. Considering its weight, Patagonia nailed all the right features. You can cinch the hem to block out wind at the waist, the half-elastic cuffs seal nicely around the wrists, and a single adjustment at the hood allows you to tighten it down effectively
