A couple of downsides: I would like the straps to be just a little bit wider. Since I haul a heavy load, the weight does not distribute to a wide area amongst my shoulders, causing only a small amount of shoulder to do a lot of the carrying. Also, I'm not sure if this is just me, but when I stand my backpack up next to my desk, it keeps falling over! I end up leaving it on its back eventually. I also wouldn't mind the pack having a little more room

Also, the zippers are indeed very small compared to my old North Face Recon. This is not a flaw as they work perfectly fine, I just thought I'd mention it because I saw someone else online say they were annoyed by how small the zippers are, and initally I was too. Now that I'm used to them though it doesn't bother me at all. Overall, I love the Patagonia brand and definitely recommend this bag for any and all uses

Only had it a month so can't speak to longevity but it seems durable, but without the stiffness of some other bags. It doesn't have the easy airport pocket feature that many bags advertise, but personally I didn't want that as I rarely ever fly and found the extra pocket feature just added bulk and is useless when I'm not travelling with a laptop - like on the weekend hiking. The laptop IS very well protected though in the dedicated internal sleeve. Well cushioned on all edges and sides and the bottom of the laptop sleeve is cushioned and "elevated" a bit off the base of the main bag compartment so if you put the bag down hard you're fine

8 x 8.3 inches. Women's version is 27L capacity and 18 x 15 x 2 inches. Both bags advertise fitting a 17 inch laptop, however my 16 inch windows laptop (about same thickness as a Macbook pro but maybe a tad wider) barely fits

This pack was purchased before our travel to Canada. Worked great as carry on. Also used as day pack for several hikes in while in Canada. The 30L size was ample room for rain gear, fleece for layering and snacks/meals

This is also the weakness for hiking. For my preferences, the use of multiple compartments leaves no room for one main compartment that I would use for a jacket and lunch. I also use this as my on-the-plane pack when I travel internationally because of all of the small stuff it can hold - everything from an i pad to a travel ukulele. I don't use it as a tourist pack while walking around in towns because I find it to be to big and too heavy

I needed a certain size. I needed durability. I won with this purchase. Best item I've ever bought, hands down
