The fabric comes from their extremely durable line of expedition duffel bags &mdash; with which we are intimately familiar and infinitely impressed. Not only is this bag durable, but it is well organized and has enough features to be useful for a variety of travel adventures. The characteristic we are most impressed with is its packability. The soft body and clamshell style allows for ultimate stuffing potential, and the mesh dividers provide full visibility into each compartment when the bag is open. 
If we have to get nit-picky, we would note that the shoulder straps are not the most comfortable for a hefty load or long-distance travel. Due to its lack of structure, the bag also tends to feel lumpy if not loaded intentionally. We found that this was a non-issue as long as you put your softer clothing closer to the back panel to avoid anything protruding while using it as a backpack. Otherwise, there is little to complain about regarding the MLC and its excellent construction.

 The bigger version of the bag is 40 liters. Mlc stands for maximum legal carry-on and that one's closer to the carry-on limits this is actually going to fit within the personal item requirements for a lot of airlines. Even regional planes, so if you're taking a short trip - and you only need a small bag, this is the perfect bag to bring you get your laptop in there. You get your clothes any other gear that you need and you don't have to pay extra for carry-on or to check a bag

 So i really liked that feature getting into the final compartment. The final compartment is basically a padded laptop sleeve fits most 15-inch laptops, but the benefit of it is that it opens all the way up. So the laptop goes here and you can even clip it into place, but when you are going through airport security, if you open the bag like this, you can just put it on the conveyor like this and send it through security. Like that, you don't have to take the laptop out and put it in a tray and then put the bag on and put the tray on

 Let'S talk about the different ways to carry the bag. There'S three different ways to carry the bag. My preferred method is using the padded backpack straps, there's daisy chain on the backpack straps. There'S also anchor points on here and then, when you're, not in use, you can put them away in this zippered compartment up top here and you can tuck

 You have all two other mesh pockets here with zippers. Just gives you the opportunity to kind of keep things a little bit more organized rather than kind of sifting through a big duffel bag, and i always found that beneficial and again, like i mentioned you, don't typically see that on bags of this size. So i really liked that feature getting into the final compartment. Patagonia Mini MLC review

 Patagonia'S website says it's the same: iconic design as our classic mlc bag. It'S smaller and made with 100 post consumer recycled black hole material. It'S a soft sided suitcase that converts to a backpack and it meets strict carry-on requirements. So, what's it like to use in short, excellent, let's start with the good first is capacity

 While the packing cubes do work, they add unnecessary bulk and create some dead space between the cubes if they don't fit perfectly into the bag. The mini mlc's built-in mesh packing cubes, eliminate that problem and allow the capacity to carry more than you think sure there are benefits to packing cubes like being able to remove and wash them, but i personally prefer the mesh dividers in the mini mlc. If i had to pick one, the fully open laptop compartment is a great feature: that's slowly appearing on more and more bags on the market, it's advertised as a tsa friendly feature being able to open it fully for security, and that's true, however, that wasn't the biggest Benefit i found for me. The main advantage of this sleeve was how much easier it made packing the laptop when bags get full the main capacity bulges into the laptop pocket, making it difficult to insert the laptop from the top

 This bag is full of them. You can detach the shoulder, strap and hide. The clips can stow the backpack, strap and hide those clips as well [, Music ]. You can use the luggage pass-through as a pocket if needed

The computer gets caught on the bulge and doesn't fit right. I found that the mini mlc solves that problem by first securing the laptop with the sleeve open

Although it looks like it could solve many of my problems, I'm concerned about comfort since it's so tall and the straps are generally dinged in reviews. Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC. I would get this just so, but wondering if the straps are any good.

 I think the durability is going to be really great. I also like the fabric as it will be easy to wipe clean. Also of note, it fits my pretty large laptop, something I was worried about. It is 18 inches diagonally and it fits great

Durability: so far with approximately 50 nights on the road it has held up well no significant failures of zippers or tears in the fabric.

Size: This is an excellent personal item as it easily fits under every airline seat that I have found so far without removing that precious foot room.

 The buckle on the top chest strap rides on my collar bone. The strap itself tends to end up near my Adam's apple. Usually I left this strap open to avoid the discomfort.

I recently purchased the UltraAspire Epic XT hydration pack for a series of day hikes in the Sierras, including Palisade Glacier and Mt. Whitney.  Over a ten day period, I wore the pack for 43 hours, covering 70 miles and 18,000 feet of elevation gain (and an equal amount of elevation loss).

Great weight and pockets but some discomfort

The first thing we did is we increased the capacity by adding a little bit of depth here, so it moved from 25 to 30 liters

 The brushed feel on the surface makes it comfortable against your clothing, or if you decide to go without a shirt, it's going to be comfortable against your skin. The wave skull itself also has the Xt mesh the special perimeter binding, but it has a pocket on each side of the hip belt. again accessible on the Go. You put large bulky items and the main compartment

 These were developed for the athletes who wants to carry bottles on the side and not on the front but still have them accessible on the go. Very easy to get the ball in and out, but because it's a stretchy mesh in the way we've shaped it, it's going to keep the bottle from launching and it certainly winter. Ryan Each shoulder strap is also designed very unique as well. To the bottom part of the left shoulder strap has two stretchy mesh pockets, one that runs all the way down and the one outer one that's a little shorter

 Next to mesh is going to draw the moisture away from your skin. We've also shaped the shoulder straps in such a way that you're going to get long-term comfort out of this. so we've made it so it goes around the neck, muscles comes out through the front, cuts away from the shoulder so you're able to move your arms with freedom and then cuts back to the side so that everything is very comfortable. Then, in addition to create comfort, we've added a special polyester binding elastic with a breast feel on the surface

 Then on this right side, similar to the left side, you have another zippered mesh pocket. Here as you can see the back panel and the shoulder straps are lined with our Xt mesh. Next to mesh is going to draw the moisture away from your skin. We've also shaped the shoulder straps in such a way that you're going to get long-term comfort out of this
