I bought this camera to have an alternative to my cell phone to record strongman and highland games training videos, often outdoors and in the cold. I thought it would be nice to not have my phone monopolized on a tripod, so I could check my program without messing up the position of the camera I use to record technique videos to send to my coaches. Almost perfect, the best 4K color depth video camera (prosumer) BUT for the autofocus problems in keeping the main subject in focus. Firmware update to support 4:2:2 in 10bit color is slow and unavailable as of August 2017. Recommend gimble stabilizer even with a LUMIX IS lens.

Now there are some poor lenses too, but if you are willing to pay a little more I have found all of the Panny/Leica and Olympus Zuiko lenses to be very, very good.

We finally bought another adapter and 2 lens covers for about $17 - Filter Adapter JJC Conversion Lens Ring Adapter Ring Mount 40.5mm Filter and 2 Pack JJC 40.5mm Front Lens Cap Cover with Deluxe Cap Keeper - they're not as good due to having to deal with a hanging lens cap, but work alright. Sooner or later the lens will be scratched without a cover

This camera is a powerhouse for the price. Full disclosure, my first camera was a Panasonic SD camcorder back in 2005, then switched to a Canon Pro camcorder in 2009, then jumped on the Panasonic train again with the GH3 and was using them until I picked up the GH5. The image is amazing, but that's not news. What is news - and hopefully will not be overlooked - is how much this camera is amazing to use

Macro is exceptional and underwater photos are very strong (easily the best among other compact UW cameras). Dynamic range is very good and shadows are often properly exposed (unlike most other UW cameras that consistently underexpose shadows). Despite this camera having only 12 MP, it frequently provides cleaner and more detailed images than its 16 and 20 MP competitors. The custom settings are awesome

The zoom as an all-round lens and the 85mm as a close-up when the zoom is used wide-angle. I don't think overheating will be a problem as interviews don't go longer than 30-45min either. With my old equipment I'm used to stopping recording after 30min, changing memory cards and batteries and then filming again briefly. Autofocus is also usable here and resolution for photos is optimal

It looks like they’ve stopped manufacturing cases for newer iPhone models now though. I got great results with it especially at shallower depths or in good vis where the image quality tended to be better than my TG5 with housing. I’d say past about 15m, in lower light or with macro, the TG would perform better. The optical zoom was superior on the TG too

This is an amazing little package that can give cameras 4 times more expensive a run for their money. The Lumix DC-GH5 is blurring the lines between prosumer and professional with features like 4k at 60p, 10-bit 4:2:2 recorded internally, plus many more. Future firmware updates will blur those lines even further with a 400Mbp/s bit rate codec! This is an exciting camera that will give you stunning photos and videos (admittedly more on the video side). A must own for the aspiring photographer/filmmaker on a budget
