This is the cameras highlight! The camera produces images quickly and without any sort of lag, no matter how hard you push it. Use a high-end SD card as well to marry that processor to the speed of a quality SD card. The optical zoom is a 5X. Fair enough

I carried it everywhere for 5 days and it wasn't bad. It uses the same battery as the FZ200. This is good because I have two spares already. The downside is that battery life is not nearly as good

You can video at night with good results unless you are in totally dark conditions. The 4K video mode is exceptional, I have a 4K monitor so I can see the results. I promise you, by next Christmas, the 1080P televisions will be non existent . The 4K in picture mode is unbelievable

The video toolkit here is pretty basic. The G5 X can record at 4K at 30fps—a firmware update is coming to add 24fps by the end of the year. It also supports 1080p at up to 120fps, so slow-motion playback is an option.

I was able to disassemble it and fix the lens, but then while putting it back together I snapped a ribbon cable on the motherboard going down into the back of the lens. Found a replacement on ebay, but IMO it was the most difficult to replace ribbon cable on the camera..

The FZ1000's fast and accurate auto focus also influenced my decision. I wanted to be able to film in dynamic environments and get the best possible auto focus performance available. Another consideration was Panasonic's reputation for creating cameras that are excellent for shooting videos. The digital zoom goes out to 20x, and I was really surprised by how good the image quality is - it produces very usable images at that range. Prior to this I always looked at digital zoom as useless unless you are photographing aliens getting out of a flying saucer and have to stay out of range of their ray guns. Of course it is not perfect. I wish it focused a little faster in still photo modes, but it's fine in most situations
