 Also, one site says that it can fit a 17 in laptop and another site says 15. I also will be using it to travel, so I also had my eye on the Venturesafe EXP45 from Pacsafe for anti-theft features. Support, proper ventilation, anti-theft, and an excessive amount of pockets/compartments are what I'm looking for.

I'm hoping to get some suggestions on a good backpack for traveling. I need it to hold a 16 in laptop. I don't have a price range - I'm willing to pay more for a long-lasting bag. Big plus if it comes in a color besides black.

Looking for a good all-round backpack for hiking/bike commuting/air travel

 Until then, they lost their sale to the Osprey Farpoint 40. I can live with a less secure bag if it's extremely comfortable to carry.

Great idea and nice quality, but Pacsafe lacks backpack design which makes this an uncomfortable travel backpack. The security features are top notch and I really thought this would be my perfect travel carry-on bag. It had everything I was looking for in a travel bag, but they failed to design a proper shoulder and hip belt system that will support a 15-20lb load. Hopefully they'll get some backpack designers on board the next redesign and I will definitely buy one

Poor suspension system makes it a terrible travel bag

 It's made with a regenerated nylon material called Econo and the inside is recycled polyester. The whole bag only weighs three pounds 13 ounces or 1.73 kilograms and holds 45 liters. Let's check out this compartment

 Now you can see the zipper is quite heavy duty on this bag, which is great when you want to pack it really full. So this is a sliding bar here and you're going to slide the zippers onto the bar. Slip this over here and you'll see it says lock and unlock on this little tab here. Just going to lock it in place and it won't open so your zippers are secure

 Let's have a look at it in comparison to a carry-on that you would normally take on a plane. So as you can see, it's pretty much the same size. Okay, so let's have a closer look at the zippers. The first time I asked a sales person how they work, they had no idea

 It's a carry-on size, which I'll show you just after this clip and all the way around the bag, there's these four clips and that's kind of like having one of those travel straps. It just supports your bag if it's really full. So in the front section, I've packed it up just as if it was my purse actually, and I've got my um, 13 inch Macbook Air, my book, and I've got it full of other things like what I would normally have in my purse like my wallet and my passport, and in the back section, the main section of the bag right under the elasticized strap. I've got my Pacsafe Cruise All Day crossbody bag, which I'll use once I get to my destination

Pacsafe Venturesafe EXP45, In Depth Review

  The Pacsafe EXP45 is way more a plus than a negative, but it does have a lot of room for improvement in two obvious and important aspects. That outside compartment is due for a redesign on the length of the zippers for much better access and visibility as to what you have in there. The backside, the straps need to have a place to hide, easily, and quickly. I suggest a hidden cover for the straps like Osprey has done so well and effectively

 They do not have the better method of the load pulls at the top. I did not find this a problem in comfort. The straps can be adjusted fairly easily once you become acquainted with the positions of the strap pulls. The sternum strap is nice enough but could be wider

 It has a buckle and also can be adjusted easily.  The Hip Pad Straps Nice, just enough and it works. I like the padding, not too much, which is fine with me. No complaints on that

 When you have the two shoulder straps stuffed into their channels, I cannot get the hip straps into their slots. If you can, would you please show us a video? Simply not easy and a royal pain. Should not be a pain point to do this. Again, I go back to the choice to have a cover over this or do a better job of making those hideaway channels easier to use

Excellent and Not So Excellent - the Pros and Cons

 If you've ever seen videos on this, you know how comically easy it can be to break into standard single nylon zippers. These hip straps aren't huge, but they're large enough. They go around to the side and it's back is a little bit flat, but it is nice and firm and it sits well in my back. The bag is a little bit boxy the aesthetics of it, but that's to be expected in a large volume bag that's intended to be a travel suitcase

 So to wrap up the review: Pacsafe Venture Safe Exp 45 I think this is a great compromise between weight quality and cost. They do skimp a little bit by using some off-brand hardware, but it's not low quality and this fabric is quite a bit thinner than you're going to see in something with a cordura. However, they managed to add some great security features to this pack while keeping the weight and the cost relatively low. Keeping these locking mechanisms for the zippers hidden behind the flap offers you good security without being obvious

 The zipper hardware is interesting. They use off-brand pulls throughout the bag. On the interior. They have these smaller number five aluminum zippers, not as high quality as Ykk, but they're also not the cheapest I've seen either

 I have the 45 liter version here, which is just under 22 by 14 by nine inches wide. This is the largest capacity pack that you can use as a carry-on without having to check it. At 3.81 pounds, this thing is a little bit on the heavy side compared to other minimalist packs, but as I'll show you, I think they managed to pack a lot of security features into this bag without adding a ton of weight

 it's just a matter of pulling these apart and once you've done it once or twice and then the other the all those zippers come together in the center and they go into this locking mechanism again which is would be kind of frustrating for a thief, but if you've been using it for a while it gets easier to do and then this pulls together. If you can pull these together and then if you can see right there here's a place for a a little hole for a padlock. Small padlock or the or the cord could go through there and lock thing lock things up. Actually the court couldn't go the like lock things up because it's not large enough but it's made for a padlock rather than for this cordons cord was in go somewhere in like that

 The times i take it on trips, so anyway, um i'll just explain a little bit about how i use it and show you how massive this thing is. I used this side pocket for told my water bottle. I just fold back the flap here and tuck it in there that works really well, and then i just alternate which side i use that on, so they get worn similarly, and neither of them get creased too badly. So i switch the water bottle side to this side over here

 I had most of stuff with me. I didn't take my laptop on hikes with me. Obviously, but i'd take a couple of jackets like that that columbia, fleece there and then also a little rain layer jacket, i actually just take the tripod, the gimbal notepad. I had water, obviously with me and coffee, a lot of the other stuff and camera gear as well

 So i thought, after enough people asking in enough time, i should probably do it, so i'm not sure exactly how old this bag is, because i got a second hand. It'S the script logo era, as you can see there, so it um it's. It could be anywhere from around 2012 to 2015, or so, i believe, before they change the logo again and um. Also, this model is not sold anymore as it currently is, but it's not that hard to find secondhand

 So this this has gotten a little wrinkly since getting super soaked, but um. That'S not going to do anything to it, not worried about it breaking or tearing or anything and uh for the straps. You know these can be kind of annoying um because they'll, you know they they slip down so you're before you put on the bag, you're always having to kind of adjust them. So your actual shoulders are sort of you know on the padded area, but that's not a huge deal overall

 So it holds a lot and it gets heavy quick um, but it uh it's gon na be super reliable as a everyday. Carry here is the laptop flap just made out of that pig skin. So this this has gotten a little wrinkly since getting super soaked, but um. That'S not going to do anything to it, not worried about it breaking or tearing or anything and uh for the straps

 We have another pocket and it does buckle shut, so easy access things if you're traveling same with the two side: pockets lots of space, easy access. Perfect nice safety clasp - nobody is getting into this unless you let them and the same on the sides looks like the bottom, we'll have to customize these to him, but these will slide straight on there. We go same goes for the other side, we'll have to use him to measure, but i think he will be pretty happy
