Osprey Porter 46 vs Matador SEG42

Osprey will replace the bag for me for free, but I'm wondering if I'd be better suited with a Farpoint 40 or similar. I've used the Porter 46 quite a bit but only truly onebagged with it once, for a 3 week trip to Japan. It was very spacious (I bought a ton of souvenirs and also I overpacked for the trip since it was my first onebag trip) but I found it too massive, unwieldy, and uncomfortable to carry it full-time.

No waist strap, which was a miss in my opinion. This thing is not small, being able to strap it down tighter would help.

Finally, the back panel seems to be regular, nylon fabric, so it provides little airflow, and means that you'll end-up with a sweaty back fairly quickly. If you don't plan to carry this bag for long periods of time, I think it would probably be adequate; the organization options and the foam side "wings" allow for very easy packing and unpacking. But, if you value comfort of carry more, as I do, this probably isn't the bag for you. In that case, you might want to look at the Farpoint 40

The laptop pocket is a nice sleeve compartment, but doesn’t provide any extra protection for it, so remember that when using it. The pocket organization on the front is kinda weird in “duffle” mode (with the storage segments stowed away) since the integrated storage segments compress down. In this manner, I wish the segments were completely removable.

It was very difficult to free up the zippers and frustrating. I did manage to get them free, but only with help..osprey needs to correct this

\-Well made as expected from Matador, YKK zips with weather sealing, etc. Good subdued look suitable for urban travel. Stitching looked sound in my investigations (my GF is a designer in fashion and I had her verify this).

My criteria: work stuff and packed clothes and such to be separate, so I can walk off my flight, into my client site, and not worry about showing all my clothes to everyone while I take out my laptop, without having to carry to bags. This bag accomplishes this amazingly well with a laptop pocket at the back, and two front pockets that accommodate your 'work bag' stuff
