  Really folks, can you make things a bit more adjustable.  I mean this pack has a rain cover, and lot of space for a 22 L bag and nice features. Just not fitting us women that are a bit fully around the middle.

 Compared to my other two packs, this one's straps are extremely rough and uncomfortable, as well. I think maybe it's just not a fit for me, I'll be returning this one.

 The torso is too short, even with the straps adjusted to their highest point -- for a comfortable fit of the straps on my shoulders the hip belt sits in the middle of my waist! I agree with another reviewer that the magnetic chest strap/combination hydration magnet is not good in practice either. The magnetic enclosure is very awkward to use compared to a standard clasp. Compared to my other two packs, this one's straps are extremely rough and uncomfortable, as well. I think maybe it's just not a fit for me, I'll be returning this one

Previously I was using either a messenger bag or an Osprey Questa that started falling apart. I wanted a bag that was in the personal item size-range, wasn't overbuilt (tried the Osprey Porter 30) but would be comfortable to carry with some weight (I tried the REI Flash 22, Gregory Nano 16, and Mountainsmith Scream 25), and didn't have lots of compartments/pockets (I've looked at the TB Synapse 19 many times) or have a separate laptop compartment. I am not a fan of NF (they refused to honor a warantee on a pack of theirs) and have been disappointed in Osprey as of late.

Hi everyone! for those of you that don't know me my name is Ben I Just recently pick up travel and this back is what I use and it is basically my buddy now it's an Osprey Porter 30 I'm just gonna go through the back to show you how much this little thing can hold. Okay so basically when you first open it so this is the buckle so to keep everything down and neat so you unbuckle that and then the first compartment you see is this first compartment where I keep all the important documents like my passport and all the ticket and in my phone. The second compartment is this little thank you I don't know if you can see it Yeah and so basically here I just keep like you know things that I can easily SS light you know contact lens where I would change it out on the plane and a couple of cable courts compartment and the main compartment is this little thing here see so it opens up like this so the good thing about his back is that it opens up not from up top like usually that you would find most of the back. so these days are this is kind of like open up like a suitcase

 the the hip belt helps a lot with the weight distribution. the that's the sternum strap which has a little with some here like you you know see so that's how it looks is comfortable. it's pretty comfortable. I just wish that this little um strap here but go a little bit more toward me

 As you can see, that's like right against your back and very nicely padded as well. and this last compartment is where you can pull up the shoulder strap see and then there is a hip strap in the back that can be easily solve a when you want to take it you know through security see. So after you do that you just like what going in and so you can pair. Yeah it's ask the pack pack or that's like a little don't pull back where you have like two knives, a padded handle up on the top and on the side and also a little handle here so you can carry it like multiple ways

Osprey 30: How I travel light

*Like*, though, not love. It's tough as nails and still looks as new as the day I bought it, but tbh it functions better as a duffel than a backpack, especially when your weight starts approaching 20 lbs, it gets uncomfortable in a hurry. I also liked the Osprey Porter 30 Travel pack as it has compression straps and a slick design, but I'm also a hiker and it doesn't have any dedicated water bottle pockets on the outside like its larger sibling, the Fairview 40, which has an XS/S torso option, while with the Porter 30 (and *possibly* the Porter 46, not 100% sure), there's only one torso size option and you get what they give you.

Planning to revisit Japan in Nov for 2.5 weeks. Female traveller, 38yo, 5ft4. I used a Blackwolf Grand Tour 65 some 2 years ago and found it to be adequate but not a lot of fun carrying up the countless stairs in train stations due to its weight. I’m looking for a lighter option including Osprey’s Sojourn 60, Fairview 65 and Ozone 75. While I never once used the back straps on the Blackwolf (part forgetting they were there, part etiquette of large backpack usage among thousands of commuters and part just being in such a hurry that carrying it by hand was easier), I do like the idea of them being there “just in case I need them”. Would like people’s opinions and thoughts. Seems the availability of wheeled backpacks are dwindling or is this my imagination? Do I really need a wheeled backpack in Japan? Will the Osprey’s Osprey without backstraps do given it’s lighter weight? Are there other wheeled backpack options better than those offered by Osprey. I am worried the Ozone and Fairview might be too big for lugging around streets, train stations and trains of Japan. TIA for advice offered.

I've gone way down the rabbit hole of purchasing/returning/trialing a bunch of different backpacks that are under $150 (mostly $100 or less).  I still haven't been able to find the perfect match and wanted to reach back out to you wonderful folks for more suggestions and support in narrowing down this search even further.  I think I've narrowed down my criteria even moreso than initially.

Here's what I've already tried and my general thoughts (it's a long list, peeps):

*Samsonite Modern Utility Travel Backpack* \- My currently daily driver that I'm testing.  I mostly like this....and it has almost everything I need...but it's a bit heavy...and I can't fit as much in its clamshell opening.  

*Osprey Porter 30* \- I ALMOST love this bag...but those straight jacket compression straps are super inconvenient for business use.  I'm in and out of my bag every day while meeting with clients reaching for cables/cordsets/etc.  The non-removable straps of the Osprey Porter 30 make getting in/out of the bag very difficult.  

*eBags Pro Slim Weekender* \- This bag was too large.

*eBags Citylink Travel* \- I wanted to like this bag more, but it's just got too much going on.  Almost too much organization...and everything feels a bit too plasticky - especially the zippers.  Plus, there are compression straps that get in the way of the side zippers.  

*SwissGear Getaway Weekend* \- I found it too small to pack more than a days worth of clothes in it.  And, not that I'm surprised considering it's $50 price tag, but it definitely feels more cheaply made and like it won't last long-term.

*Matein Travel Backpack* \- Too large.  Too many straps.

*Bange Travel Backpack* \- Too many straps.  Feels way too cheap.  And it came folded in half and never regained its shape.

*Osprey Daylite Plus 26+6* \- I actually liked this one a lot because of its compact form...but it has terrible front pocket organization - and no separate laptop compartment area.  Otherwise, not bad.  It can fit quite a bit of stuff.

Whew.  That was a mouthful.  I've probably left off a bag or two, but those are the main ones I've trialed...and I'm still on the search for my optimal one bag solution.

So, here's my adjusted criteria now:

**Must Haves**

\- At least 25 liter capacity.  I don't want to get too large a pack because it needs to be an EDC, but it needs to be at least 25 liters to fit a few days of clothes (and gym items).

\- Compact form factor that is close-ish to a standard backpack and can be considered as a "personal item" on certain airlines.  Maybe the ability to expand and compress would be great so that I can slim it down when mainly using it as a business laptop EDC, but then being able to expand it when needing to use it for extended overnight stays.  I definitely don't want a larger pack that stays large (mainly in terms of depth) even when I only need it for simple use cases.

\- Clamshell opening - this gives me the most flexibility in case I want to use packing cubes or not and also allows me to pack easier, see everything at once, and even just open my bag and leave it opened at my hotel room.  I typically pack a pair of pants (khakis), 2 polo shirts, undershirt, boxers, socks, and workout clothes (shoes, shorts, shirt).  I'm actually slightly open to a standard opening instead of a clamshell...if everything else checks the boxes...but prefer clamshell if possible.

\- Front Pocket Organization and Easy Access - I will mainly use this as a business laptop backpack where I will occasionally pack for shorter business trips 2-3 days. For the most part, I need easy access to cables, cords, other hardware items when visiting clients (I'm a sales engineer). Also, easy access to the front pockets and laptop compartment is a must.  I've seen and tried out a pack or two with non-removable front straps that make easy access difficult.  

\- Reasonably Durable - I take this backpack on/off multiple times a day at a variety of random environments (outdoors, indoors, in dirty manufacturing plants, in standard offices, etc.).  It doesn't have to be military-grade durable like the GoRucks of the world, but just something that can handle non-office type environments.

\- Quality Zippers - I will be opening/closing the zippers a lot throughout a day.

\- Padded Straps and Back - Nothing crazy, but just enough to be comfortable when wearing for hours at a time.

**Nice to Haves**

\- Under $200.  I initially was looking for something under $100, but I'm willing to up my spending a little if there's something that's the correct fit.

\- Amazon Availability - This is the easiest way for me to try stuff out/send it back.  I'm open to other retail outlets, but they have to have a no-frills/no hassle return policy.  I really won't know if I've found the "right" bag until I get it in my hands and try it out.

\- Compression Straps - I'm open to this, but they cannot get in the way of accessing zippers and if they were removable/hidable, then that would be ideal.  I don't like bags that have a bunch of cords/straps hanging off them.  I guess it's fine if you're going hiking or going to be wearing the bag for hours/days on end, but I won't be doing that.  It'll mainly be worn for half hour periods during work days and maybe an hour or so during travel days.

\- Lightweight - As lightweight as possible would be preferred because I will be mainly using this with a laptop and a few other hardware items.  The Samsonite Modern Utility Travel backpack I use now is good, but it isn't the lightest in the world.  And it isn't the most comfortable.  I could see it being a hassle carrying it on my back when filled up with items.

\- Modern looking - Not a must, but it would be nice.  I like the look of the Bellroy Transit and the Knack Series of bags.

\- Side Handle - I doubt I'll use it in "briefcase" mode often, but this would be a nice value add feature.

\- Stowable Straps - This kind of goes in line with the point above.  If I'm carrying it as a "carry on" style bag or as a briefcase, then it'd be nice to tuck away the straps.  Some bags have this option as standard...and some don't.  Seems hit or miss.

\- Waterproof - I doubt I'll be using this to hike or in any scenario where I'll be traveling outside in inclement weather, but it'd be nice to have.

\- Lifetime Warranty - Every bag I've owned for work (mostly cheaper bags) have never last more than a few years before having zipper issues or getting a hole in them.  A lifetime warranty would give me a peace of mind.

So, there you have it.  A tremendously long and overly detailed post.  I'm still on the search for my ideal one-size-fits-all type bag, but I am opening the search and suggestions back up to the Reddit community for additional input. 

Help me out, Peeps!  I feel like I'm deep in the weeds...and need some practical input and suggestions from folks who've found their precious.

I definitely don&#39;t want a larger pack that stays large (mainly in terms of depth) even when I only need it for simple use cases.

- Clamshell opening - this gives me the most flexibility in case I want to use packing cubes or not and also allows me to pack easier, see everything at once, and even just open my bag and leave it opened at my hotel room. I typically pack a pair of pants (khakis), 2 polo shirts, undershirt, boxers, socks, and workout clothes (shoes, shorts, shirt). I&#39;m actually slightly open to a standard opening instead of a clamshell...if everything else checks the boxes...but prefer clamshell if possible.

- Front Pocket Organization and Easy Access - I will mainly use this as a business laptop backpack where I will occasionally pack for shorter business trips 2-3 days. For the most part, I need easy access to cables, cords, other hardware items when visiting clients (I&#39;m a sales engineer). Also, easy access to the front pockets and laptop compartment is a must. I&#39;ve seen and tried out a pack or two with non-removable front straps that make easy access difficult. 

- Reasonably Durable - I take this backpack on/off multiple times a day at a variety of random environments (outdoors, indoors, in dirty manufacturing plants, in standard offices, etc.). It doesn&#39;t have to be military-grade durable like the GoRucks of the world, but just something that can handle non-office type environments.

- Quality Zippers - I will be opening/closing the zippers a lot throughout a day.

- Padded Straps and Back - Nothing crazy, but just enough to be comfortable when wearing for hours at a time.

Nice to Haves

- Under $200. I initially was looking for something under $100, but I&#39;m willing to up my spending a little if there&#39;s something that&#39;s the correct fit.

- Amazon Availability - This is the easiest way for me to try stuff out/send it back. I&#39;m open to other retail outlets, but they have to have a no-frills/no hassle return policy. I really won&#39;t know if I&#39;ve found the &quot;right&quot; bag until I get it in my hands and try it out.

- Compression Straps - I&#39;m open to this, but they cannot get in the way of accessing zippers and if they were removable/hidable, then that would be ideal. I don&#39;t like bags that have a bunch of cords/straps hanging off them. I guess it&#39;s fine if you&#39;re going hiking or going to be wearing the bag for hours/days on end, but I won&#39;t be doing that. It&#39;ll mainly be worn for half hour periods during work days and maybe an hour or so during travel days.

- Lightweight - As lightweight as possible would be preferred because I will be mainly using this with a laptop and a few other hardware items. The Samsonite Modern Utility Travel backpack I use now is good, but it isn&#39;t the lightest in the world. And it isn&#39;t the most comfortable. I could see it being a hassle carrying it on my back when filled up with items.

- Modern looking - Not a must, but it would be nice. I like the look of the Bellroy Transit and the Knack Series of bags.

- Side Handle - I doubt I&#39;ll use it in &quot;briefcase&quot; mode often, but this would be a nice value add feature.

- Stowable Straps - This kind of goes in line with the point above. If I&#39;m carrying it as a &quot;carry on&quot; style bag or as a briefcase, then it&#39;d be nice to tuck away the straps. Some bags have this option as standard...and some don&#39;t. Seems hit or miss.

- Waterproof - I doubt I&#39;ll be using this to hike or in any scenario where I&#39;ll be traveling outside in inclement weather, but it&#39;d be nice to have.

- Lifetime Warranty - Every bag I&#39;ve owned for work (mostly cheaper bags) have never last more than a few years before having zipper issues or getting a hole in them. A lifetime warranty would give me a peace of mind.

So, there you have it. A tremendously long and overly detailed post. I&#39;m still on the search for my ideal one-size-fits-all type bag, but I am opening the search and suggestions back up to the Reddit community for additional input.

 It wraps around and connects with a larger buckle. Everything is easily adjustable with pulls and the high quality straps slide easily but hold strong. If you don't want to use the straps they store away and don't bulge or leave anything dangling around. Again, meticulous attention to detail here

THE BEST travel pack ever.

 for organization, it has pockets and zippers. sometimes. When I needed something quickly and the compression straps were in the way maybe my passport or my keys I'd store it in this top pocket this top pocket small, but I also was able to fit sandals or maybe like a small pair of shoes in here, so that was really helpful for when I was in a hurry. If I could change anything and maybe add one more pocket, I'd add a little side sleeve for a water bottle somewhere
