Based on other reviews as well as the tech specs of this pack I bought this for my 10 yr old who had a variety of adventures this summer! She used this as her carry-on for a trip to Southeast Asia - carried all her on-the-plane activities and then became her day-pack for day trips as well as her 'suitcase' for a 5 day river trip in Sarawak. She then used it as a full-bore backpack on our back-country trip in Glacier. She was able to carry her sleeping bag, crazy creek chair, and some clothes in the main compartment as well as various daily needs e.g

Great for kids beginning backpacking pack!

 Success!!! Reference child is 46 inches and weighs about 50lbs and the adjustments are at the minimum, construction is good, should last him a couple of years just long enough to break in my second child ;-)  Remember, when introducing children to backpacking start short, keep the pack light (rule of thumb keep the pack under 20% of their body weight), take frequent breaks and above all have fun!  Happy trails!

First off, this pack is kind of expensive for a kids pack but it is the only pack that I found that has a suspension system.  It keeps the weight off my boy's shoulders and puts it where it belongs, on his hips. He was using a school type backpack before I bought him this and with 5-8lbs would tell me his shoulders hurt after about a mile or two.  Since using this we've been on a few 4-6 mile hikes and I don't hear anything about sore shoulders with about 10lbs

8. Forclaz foam sleeping pad (r2.5 if I remember correctly or such, but bombproof and never let me down, great for sitting too)

I'm going to a local mountain which is known for sudden weather changes, and temps are gonna be from 2C to 20C in the same day. So it's going to be fun.

 It's same style as in North Face Terror 55 but it's smaller and so light. So light. This backpack to give you freshens about this size. it's basically comparing to a normal everyday carry

Best Pack for a variety of uses

) Ventilation is good but not great, though I can't complain given how comfortably this pack carries. A very welcome innovation is how the main compartment opens with a two-handed tug, and closes with a one-handed pull. No need to fuss with a toggle. The pack material is supposed to dry fast, but I've not yet put that to the test
