Based on other reviews as well as the tech specs of this pack I bought this for my 10 yr old who had a variety of adventures this summer! She used this as her carry-on for a trip to Southeast Asia - carried all her on-the-plane activities and then became her day-pack for day trips as well as her 'suitcase' for a 5 day river trip in Sarawak. She then used it as a full-bore backpack on our back-country trip in Glacier. She was able to carry her sleeping bag, crazy creek chair, and some clothes in the main compartment as well as various daily needs e.g

Great for kids beginning backpacking pack!

 Success!!! Reference child is 46 inches and weighs about 50lbs and the adjustments are at the minimum, construction is good, should last him a couple of years just long enough to break in my second child ;-)  Remember, when introducing children to backpacking start short, keep the pack light (rule of thumb keep the pack under 20% of their body weight), take frequent breaks and above all have fun! First off, this pack is kind of expensive for a kids pack but it is the only pack that I found that has a suspension system.  It keeps the weight off my boy's shoulders and puts it where it belongs, on his hips. He was using a school type backpack before I bought him this and with 5-8lbs would tell me his shoulders hurt after about a mile or two.  Since using this we've been on a few 4-6 mile hikes and I don't hear anything about sore shoulders with about 10lbs

 Loved all the storage and versatility. Loaded it up with all my gear and took it on a shakedown hike. The stitching in the main buckle for the hydration system came loose after the test. And I got a small pin hole in the mesh side pocket

 Day one on the hike I noticed another tear in the same mesh pocket. Just kinda bummed these pockets aren't more durable especially the outside pockets that are likely to make contact with all kinds of terrain. Pack is currently being repaired but I will eat any cost on whatever the 3rd party repairer deems outside of the warranty. 3 stars

 That'S going to give you maximum airflow. We do have a aluminum X frame for support stability, but also a lot of flexibility. We'Ve also got an anti barrelling stay in there as well to prevent it from kind of bumping out on you or creating any awkward shaping in the shoulder straps and the hip belt. We'Ve got a die, cut, Evie, a foam so very well cushioned and padded harness and hip belt, and that material is very breathable lightweight and abrasion resistant, while remaining very comfortable next to skin

 So this pack does include its own cover and it's got its dedicated storage compartment right there. So that is a removable rain cover you can take it out and take it off. Leave it at home if you're expecting a dry trip, but it's a great place to store that rain cover just in the event of a storm on either side. We do have our kind of standard stretch, mesh pockets, so a great place to store large water bottles or other gear, and there is a compression strap over that pocket

 On each side there is a buckle. So you can kind of undo that buckle and it will reveal this u-shaped zipper. So we have a front u-shaped zipper, that'll, open up really conveniently and easily almost all the way down both sides of the pack, and that will allow you to access the middle contents of your pack very easily. So you've got something buried in the middle that you want to get to while you're moving quickly on the trail

 You can use these compression straps on either side to cinch that pocket down or loosen it up to store larger items in there right now. I'Ve just got a lightweight windbreaker, so easy to store those layers there, but another extremely convenient point about that front. Mesh pocket is behind there. We'Ve actually got a kind of a hidden zipper and it says rain cover
