 They do have a slightly smaller version that is closer to 38 Weir's and I Feel like this offers plenty of space for traveling for many weeks on end, and it does feel like something that you should be able to carry onto most airlines I've traveled a lot on Ryanair and easyJet and I typically saw people with these bags get on just fine. With that being said, I do feel that this is right on the end of what I would be comfortable carrying on with. and because this isn't as slim of a baggie to get a gate agent who's a little bit stricter, they may be more tempted to have you weigh the bag or just check it if it doesn't fit into one of those metallic racks. So pretty nice size overall

I wanted to like this bag, and there are some things I do like, but the laptop compartment is a huge miss for me. I was looking for a pack to take with me to Borneo for 3 weeks. I managed to almost fit (but not) everything I wanted in to it, but it was like a stuffed sausage in the main compartment and a turtle overall. The small upper pocket worked well to hold my liquids, but what the heck could I put in the two sectioned laptop sleeve pocket? There are no small compartments, just a large zippered one and a large Velcro laptop one

 I managed to almost fit (but not) everything I wanted in to it, but it was like a stuffed sausage in the main compartment and a turtle overall. There are no small compartments, just a large zippered one and a large Velcro laptop one. So whatever you put in (unless it is a flat and long laptop or tablet) falls into the depths never to be seen again. I tried sticking my binoculars in but they just made it bulkier

 I am happy with this pack. I rated it four instead of five stars because the zippers are not high-quality YKK, so their long-term durability is unknown. Also, the Volcanic Grey color is actually a greenish-gray, NOT the true charcoal gray pictured online.

 pack was balanced and comfortable on my 5'11" body. There are features of a quality hiking backpack: a stable but lightweight frame, contoured shoulder harnesses featuring load lifter straps that prevent sagging away from your back, sternum strap and hip belt that perfectly transfers weight away from the shoulders. I had a comfortable, hands-free trek through an airport terminal, onto a monorail, up and down subway stairs and along a half mile of sidewalk to my hotel. I'll never drag along rolling carry-on luggage again

 I used it on a 7-day vacation in Japan (a place with stunning fall season color, BTW). My loaded 20-lb. pack was balanced and comfortable on my 5'11" body. There are features of a quality hiking backpack: a stable but lightweight frame, contoured shoulder harnesses featuring load lifter straps that prevent sagging away from your back, sternum strap and hip belt that perfectly transfers weight away from the shoulders

 With the main compartment filled, the middle pockets for a laptop computer and other items get compressed, but I fit slim items like travel documents and the detachable shoulder strap. That strap is actually convenient to quickly carry the pack at your side in the airport gate, and when boarding aircraft and trains. I love how the harness can be folded under a secure, zippered panel to streamline the pack in an aircraft cabin overhead compartment or when checking luggage on a small regional jet. To stow the harness behind the panel, loosen the load lifter straps so the shoulder harnesses fold flat -- otherwise they stick out and don't compress

 Zippers and pockets are well designed. Spot for my iPad. Bottle/can holders on the outside. Excellent, padded hip belt for distributing weight

 Chest strap too! The only negative is I wish it came in more colors as I like it to stand out a bit. They make a larger version with a detachable backpack, but I prefer the "all in one" option - seems simpler and stronger to me.

 Getting it on, I could not see the straps AT ALL. If I did not have a traveling companion I am not sure I would have gotten it on. I would have required a mirror. Once on the hip straps did their job and kept the weight off my shoulders

 I tried the shoulder strap, it was painful. No cushioning at all, and it dragged on my shoulder..

fully packed out it is heavy and cumbersome and straps are difficult to visualize and secure.

 It's hard to describe without actually seeing it, but if you're careful and take your time rolling the panel up then you'll avoid that from happening. Another reason why I didn't give the Farpoint 40 5 stars is because you're stuck with the hip straps. Unlike the Venturesafe 45 or other bags similar to this one bag carry-on backpack, the Farpoint 40 hip belt doesn't tuck away anywhere. I know I won't always want to use them, especially since the shoulder pads distribute the weight so well

 I couldn't care less about the laptop compartments on any of these bags because, I don't travel with one. The Venturesafe 45 has a 5 year warranty. It also IS NOT a true 45L bag. I don't know where they get that, but it has less space than any of the 34-40 liter bags I've tested

 The smaller top pocket is perfect for your TSA liquid bag or throwing in the contents of your pants pockets before sending it through the x-ray machine. I do TSA Precheck so I don't have to take out my liquids, but leaving from other countries, liquids do have to come out so this pocket is handy. When leaving the US, put my wallet, cellphone and watch in the pocket so they're not in plain sight to temps any sticky fingers. The current model has more of a low key logo of just the bird and Osprey wording, not what the picture Amazon shows

 The Farpoint 40 also has thickly padded handles on the side and top for carrying without the shoulder straps. I found them about as comfy as all the other bags I tried. The shoulder and hip straps zip up quickly under the roll away panel, but one of the reasons for the 4 stars is the roll up panel is secured in an odd way with velcro which don't see lasting that long. It's in a weird spot where it could catch onto clothes and possibly ruin them if you are wearing delicate fabrics

 It's not great for for that. So one of the reasons that's why I've had such an issue with this bag. But if you need something that will be a good Edc bag that you don't require it to be super fancy or anything like that, this will do it for you. If you need a travel bag that isn't going to be like the most comfortable thing in the world, but it's going to be pretty comfortable, This is good

 Great It's a great bag and he and here's the issues that I've had with it. The straps are everywhere and for me, my Ocd has kind of got got in the way. This thing doesn't have a lot of form to it. It's essentially a giant ball of cloth that's attached to a frame sheet and that's really what it is

 I like that I could cinch it down. I like that it has a handle on the bottom and a handle at the top. I like that the back panel is comfortable, that it has load lifters. I like that the straps are are comfortable and pretty beefy

 A big North Face sleeping bag. Will it fit? Yep, yes it will. Okay, I'm gonna call it. that's it

 So we're going to open this first using the zipper. so this is the inside of the bag. Let's start with the back. You've got a laptop sleeve for a 15 inch laptop and there is a false bottom right here, so it keeps it from hitting the ground when you set down the bag

 It would be nice if this sat flat at the bottom, especially when you have it this full so that it's not going to topple over on you. All right, let me put this on for you. All right, that's heavier. So having these straps nice and snug is really going to help you when it comes to distributing the weight of the bag

 It's a little bit larger than some, but I take a lot with me when I travel many times. I'm gone for three weeks at a time and I want to have all my stuff with me so I'm gonna stick that at the bottom and then all my clothes. Uh, from a week to three weeks will fit into this Peak Design compression cube. All right
