Best Ultralight Backpack of 2022 - GearLab

 Both my boys complained about it rubbing them. Over the course of several days in the back country with heavy packs this left bruises.  My review is based on my experience with these packs. I would not buy them again if I were going to do a similar trip

  The Good: - The packs were well made and light weight. - The top lid was helpful and made sense in its design. - The access to the water bottles on the side was easy and well designed. - The trekking pole storage was clever and useful when hiking on trails

  My review is based on my experience with these packs. I would not buy them again if I were going to do a similar trip. I just don't think they're beefy enough for type of trip and weight being carried. I tried to save 3-4lbs for these boys and left them uncomfortable and bruised instead

Was it the pack or my use of the pack?

 I'll see if I can make it creek for you now, so there are some creaking sounds going on there, and that's pretty much what I hear on walks. Sometimes it's not all the time. I don't know if it changes with gradient or where the weight shifted in my pack, or maybe whether I'm standing more upright, but that's as loud as it gets, so make your own judgments based on that. And that brings me to the end of my list of pros and cons for the 2022 Osprey Exos 48 backpack

 Of course, you've got quite a bit of weight. You've got straps passing through plastic buckles so they can kind of creak and squeak as you move. And there's also a metal frame on this pack that's held under quite a bit of tension with material pulled tight around it as well. so I think where some of the creaking comes from is down at the bottom, where you've got the material wrapped around the metal frame and that just sort of rotates and moves over the frame slightly when you're walking

 These straps are a bit narrower than my Atmos 65 litre pack, and everything feels lighter weight. It's less padded. Nonetheless, I find this really comfortable to wear. I don't have any issues when I'm out hiking, and I generally use this loaded up to between 8 and 15 kilos

 I wondered if I could have got away with the 38 liter rather than 48 because I seem to have acres of space left at the top of it. But looking at the 38 liter version of this pack, you don't even save 50 grams. So for the sake of 50 grams, I might as well have another 10 liters of capacity. Pro number two is that I find this a really comfortable pack to wear

 The size of the pack required is dependent on each individual's torso length. I'll leave a link in the description below to Osprey's guide and how to measure your torso properly. The Asia is specifically designed to suit a woman's body with changes made to the pack shape and the design of the shoulder harness and the hip belts. NEW Osprey EXOS 48 Updated for 2022 | Ultralight Backpack

Back pain sufferer here - I use a frame (Osprey Exos) and a comfy sleeping pad (Xtherm). It’s worth the extra ounces to keep my back healthy.

For background, I'm a weekend warrior with herniated discs who is looking to get more into weeklong trips. I'm in good enough shape now that I'm never in horrible pain after hiking, just a little sore depending on the terrain. I've been running a Crown2 60 with a ~15lb base, but feel like it's time to downsize my pack as I've honed in my setup more and really not filling it out. 

I've been eyeing up a Gossamer g4-20 as it'd be roughly 10oz lighter, and seemingly easier to move more swiftly with. The volume seems perfect for 3 seasons, though I'll likely keep my Crown for Winter trips. I am nervous to ditch a frame despite many positive reviews, as these reviewers don't have back injuries that I'm aware of. 

Can anyone speak from experience regarding back injuries and pack weight? The crown seems like a sweet spot for weight with rigidity, but always looking to lighten the load some!

I Went with the 58 liter for my EXO's It does come in two other sizes

 My issue with it is the design of the pocket itself. It runs a good portion of the size of the pack, but as you can see here, the way Osprey has built this one is they updated it from the older EXO's version which was just a full stretchy mesh pocket. So all this bit here was all stretchy mesh. They didn't have this solid I think this is like a hundred and ten D fabric in the center here

personally I went with the 58 liter for
my EXO's it does come in two other sizes

it comes in a 48 litre and a 38 litre
this is all go to pack for all my summer

and my winter backpacking trips so I've
had a ton of use with this pack so let's

dive into what I think about my EXO's
fish I absolutely love about this pack

is how minimal it is it's very simple
it's got a two pocket brain on the pack

and one massive compartment that's it
there's no zippered pockets or anything

so with the lid flip back basically
everything you see here this is one

giant pocket there's a couple of
stretchy mesh outer pockets you've got

one pocket on the back here with some
stretchy mesh on the side that expands a

little bit and then you've got two
similar pockets on either side got some

stretchy mesh and they stretch out I've
got a 1 litre bottle and a 710
