About the brand: I can recommend the smaller Osprey bags but I haven't been especially happy with the Aether 70, and I've had broken zips on several Osprey bags. They do have a great lifetime warranty, which is handy if you've got an Osprey returns facility nearby or can DIY repairs with spare parts they'll send, but I'd look at other brands too.

I would like to see a slightly longer zipper on the sleeping bag compartment; at least an inch, maybe two as getting my fully compressed down bag through the opening was a little tight. The only other criticism is the bottom straps, which I used to secure a Therm-a-rest Z pad could be an inch or two longer. Otherwise, it's a great pack. Pluses are the good size hip belt pockets, rain cover that comes with the pack, two pockets in the "brain", enough room for everything, and plenty of straps to make a tight package

It is indeed heavy as other folks have mentioned, but the suspension is top notch and it doesn’t carry heavier on your back, in my opinion. If you’re carrying extra gear/weight from your wife, you’ll appreciate the beefier suspension. The daypack lid is a great feature—some say it’s a gimmick, but I’ve used it quite a bit for day hikes, summits, and fetching water for camp.

Loved all the storage and versatility. Loaded it up with all my gear and took it on a shakedown hike. The stitching in the main buckle for the hydration system came loose after the test. And I got a small pin hole in the mesh side pocket

One of my favorite parts of this pack is the separate compartment accessed from the bottom, I suppose you could use this compartment for anything, but I think it is ideal for storing and accessing my sleeping bag. Sleeping bags often annoy me when packing for trips, because they take up so much space and make it difficult to access things in the main compartment of my pack. Having a designated spot for my sleeping bag makes it much more simple to pack and organize my bag. This was especially helpful as I recently lost my compression sack for my sleeping bag, but this compartment essentially replaced my need for the compression sack

The 2 front straps are just too short. They don’t even fit a regular Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol Sleeping Pad. I am attaching 2 more straps to carry while leaving the 2 original unused (adding more weight). The z straps on the sides are not as effective as 2 independent buckled straps for attaching heavy snowshoes (but I will make it work)

Weak or defective Sternum Strap and no way to fix it (that I know of). I got this for my son as a Christmas present thinking that it would be one he would take on our BSA backpacking trip to Philmont ranch in New Mexico. Not sure why this happened but it shouldn't have.
