Nikon D3500 vs Panasonic Lumix S5

Moving to ISO 12800 we see noise tick up above 1.5 percent, and we also see details drop precipitiously. You can set the camera as high as ISO 25600, but I wouldn't recommend it when shooting in JPG format—images are blurry and show very little fine detail.

I absolutely LOVE the S5. Full frame sensor, 10 bit color, great image stabilization and the kit lens (20-60 f3.5 to 5.6) is actually really good

Unfortunately, its autofocus system is very basic, with only 11 detection points. It's not especially reliable when it comes to face or object tracking. Also, it isn't the best option if you're interested in recording video since it can't record in 4k, and its FHD video quality is mediocre overall. Despite that, it's still one of the best cameras to start photography with, and most beginners will be happy with it

I wanted to keep this camera and tried so many ways but in the end the independent AF made it unusable for my purpose. PROS: Excellent image quality even at low bitrate 180 fps in 1080p, 30fps @ 4k full frame & 60fps @ super 35 Magical image stabilization Great ergonomics, far superior to the a7siii Beautiful noise at high ISO because you can nearly turn noise reduction off, much more usable at low light than the A7Siii, the king itself! CONS: The autofocus almost never works and when it does it loses face on a whim making it unusable in gimbal situation. The mount doesn't hold the lenses in place steadily: there is side to side play on all the lenses pointing at tolerance fault.

Get the Canon if you want 4k video capability and a fully articulated touchscreen, but if you're new to DSLRs, the Nikon is a great alternative budget option.

Lumix S5 hands down for video. I own it and is great. \+ Great low light performance, great dynamic range, great 4k image quality, full-frame and APC mode, DCI mode, shutter angle, anamorphic options, 5.9k external to NV, V-log, decent kit lens

it sucked lol. Using a D3500 with a nikon 17-55 2.8 lens. I couldnt auto-focus on anything because it was so dark, and the lens wasnt letting me manually focus! I switched it to M instead of MA on the lens but when I was spinning the dial it wasn't focusing, I was trying to make it infinty focus

If you want a mirrorless camera, I think the lens selection makes this the one to buy. I know the complaint with l-mount cameras has been that the lenses aren't there. In 2021, that's no longer a factor. On top of that, the fact that this has first party support from Sigma means that there are fantastic, fully supported lenses for this camera at half the price of what you get from Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Fuji

But I'm willing to order refurb direct for the VR edition of the lense. Got the standard option because I hate lenses with no IS (or VR in this case).

Sony a7c is the lightest full frame with stabilisation - lumix s5 and canon r6 have great stabilisation but are much larger.
